As a current student I absolutely enjoy my virtual enrollment with Bellevue University. As far as academic counseling, coursework, etc. I would give that 5 stars! I'm not usually the type to leave reviews but in hopes this may do some good for future people here we are! For student accountings, there is two individuals you may deal with as a student.. heather and Emily! Go for Emily! Heathers tone of voice when working out payment plans for tuition is almost belittling and she seems to reiterate things almost as if you weren't able to understand things for yourself, it almost felt condescending and overall just a very uncomfortable experience. please work on just having better patience when it comes to working with people via phone/email read more

So I choose Bellevue after finding about my colleges tuition assistance program. I had no idea what BU was and had to look them up to make sure it was a real college. It sure is. Brittanee and Melanie are great advisors, professor Lang is amazing when it comes to the Microsoft Office course. Credits from my community college in Illinois were easily transferred. I even emailed my upcoming math professor about a calculator and got an answer right away. I have never done an online course before and I am so incredibly happy to be a student at Bellevue and today just found out that they are going to have a masters degree program in the field. I am looking at which is supply chain management. I was going to go through the tuition assistance program Again to get a masters at the University of Denver, but I am going to be a Bruin for life. I decided to read the reviews posted for this school, and yes I am currently attending. I looked at the low scores first and some of these were actually laughable. "They are a Diploma Mill". Yes, because all diploma mill colleges are on campuses that house many buildings and dorms. And what diploma mill is complete without a sports complex for their teams. Also, the school has been around for 50, some odd years. "They have poor staff". I have dealt with no one that was the least bit disrespectful. No matter who I email, or talk to on the phone, if I ask a question, I always receive a complete answer. These reviews are the words of people that thought getting a degree online would be a breeze. Great school! I graduated this past weekend with a BS in IT Operations Management and already have a great job lined up that I start in 3 weeks. I did an accelerated program. They cram a lot into each 6-week course, but it's one class at a time with no summer breaks. I already had an Associates Degree when I started, so it was nice being able to jump right into a degree program and be finished 18 months later. Now I feel dumb for waiting so long to finish my degree. The only billing issue I had was when I switched over to my GI Bill for three classes in the middle of my program. They had my GI Bill info, but weren't charging it, so when I got an email that my account was past due, I had to call and tell them that I intended for them to charge my GI Bill. It was a simple fix with a 10 minute phone call. I didn't have any other issues. The professors were great and knowledgeable. I learned a lot and feel better prepared for more challenging employment positions. I would definitely recommend Bellevue University, especially for other working adults like myself that have been putting off going back to college. You will be so glad you did. read more

I recently graduated and walked the stage at Bellevue University. I'm thankful I found this school and completed my undergraduate work here. I was able to complete my major courses here, while taking some general education courses online at my local community college online. This was all while working full time. Living in the Bay Area is ultra competitive and expensive. I only completed my undergraduate because I wanted to go to law school and the flexibility of the school helped me accomplish that. Some good aspects about the school... - They run on a twelve week system which fits four semester in a year (fall, winter, spring, and summer). You can complete your degree faster than at a three semester school. - Cyberactive which is the online platform is easy to use and navigate - When you do graduate and if you decide to attend the graduation, it's relatively inexpensive to travel to Nebraska from most parts of the US. - If you're serious about your education, the faculty is there to support and check in on you. This is an adult school though and you need to know what you want - Getting your transcripts sent to and from the school is relatively easy. read more

This is a great school. I see all the poor reviews. This is just like any other school... you can get a degree but you have to know how to apply the skills. I know people with Master's degrees from University of Nebraska at Omaha who are underemployed... it says nothing about the school. Furthermore, you can't expect a degree to be your only standing point... while in school, did you intern somewhere, did you volunteer... boost your resume... a degree will not do it. Bellevue started as a small school and has expanded to offering several online courses... it is NOT a diploma mill. There are several federal agencies that endorse BU's education programs. I have had no problem with getting jobs with my Master's degree from BU! The tuition is somewhat high... but what do you expect from a private school... AND an accelerated program. You are paying for the time that you save. If you want a lower cost, traditional school... BU may not be for you... Try a public state university. If you want a school with a flexible schedule that offers online course WITH the same quality education as a state university... BU is a good choice. Secondary education is evolving to offer more nights and online course... While I was completing my undergrad, my dad decided to pursue his Master's Degree. He ended up choosing Bellevue University for their Leadership program. Living in California, this was a surprising choice at first: how had a school in Nebraska managed to catch his eye? Apparently, Bellevue University had a good enough reputation to reach even the West Coast. My dad graduated in the summer following my junior year of undergrad, and with me entering my senior year of college, it is undeniable that his decision to return to school and get his Master's Degree had a major impact on my decision to enter grad school after receiving my B.A. My dad coached me through the process of applying, but there wasn't all too much to assist me on from his end. The admissions office did most of the heavy lifting, and for that, I was incredibly impressed. Bellevue University's admission process is incredibly pain-free. The office keeps in constant contact with you through the process, making sure everything goes through, and answering any questions one might have. I was also enrolled into my first set of classes (two classes a term in an eighteen month program) without having to do anything myself. With that all completed, all I had to do was order my books and wait for the term to start. Book buying is also incredibly hassle-free. The Bellevue University Online Bookstore has the option to search for classes, which allows you to see what books you need. While I might not always buy from the online bookstore, it's a great reference for comparing prices with Amazon. Furthermore, I can confirm that shipping is quite fast, as I'll receive -- with standard shipping -- my books within a week or two. The program I joined, the International Security and Intelligence Studies Master's Program, is a relatively new one. It is spearheaded by Professor Crosston, an excellent instructor who is dedicated to establishing the program as one of the best. While at first worried by what to expect from the program, I was surprised to find that I enjoyed it much more than I had my undergrad. I had never taken an online course before, so everything was new to me at first. Each term is twelve-weeks, except for summer, which is ten-weeks. We get our assignments for the week on Monday, and they're due by Sunday before midnight. The system is incredibly reliant on the student's ability to function on their own. You don't get the constant presence of a hovering professor in a classroom, reminding you of due dates and such -- although the instructor is by no means absent from the process. It's just everything is on you, the student: you need to be responsible for your weekly readings and for your written assignments. Overall, I would recommend this program and this school to anyone in a heartbeat. The school is terrific for people who work and can't attend traditional brick-and-mortar schools, or for people who just enjoy attending school from the comfort of their own home. I know this school caters to a lot of military personnel, as the system is incredibly flexible to their schedules. My sister is also starting her first term at Bellevue University in November as a transfer student in the Health Science undergrad program. I read all of the negative reviews. In each of their cases it was their own fault, one way or the other so take their reviews with a grain of salt. I attended the school for 3 years part time to shore up my bachelor's degree (CIS) 10/10. Would definitely recommend. I was able to take a lot of the information learned in the IT classes and immediately apply it to my job. Not everything was perfect. The Applied Statistics class that was required for my degree awful. The Kirkpatrick Signature Series class was intense with lots of research and a ton of writing. I also had some run ins with a few classmates and professors. However, we were always able to work things out, even if I had to talk the Dean a few times. Still though, my degree led to a quick promotion and I'm much happier because of that. read more

I am a 23-year-old working professional who jumped into the Bellevue Master's program pretty much right after getting my Bachelor's from a local University. So far, this has been a great program. People often the opinion that online schooling is easier, and that is not the case with Bellevue at all. Tests are proctored, meaning I have to go to the local library to have my exams administered to me. I have enjoyed my MBA pgrm with Bellevue so far and look forward to completing the next four semesters before obtaining my MBA in Marketing. I can't wait! read more

I have been attending Security Management program online with Bellevue University since 2011. The program allows me to take one class per semester since I travel a lot with my full time employer. I am now down to my final class. It has been an incredible experience, from the Admission Counselors, Finance, Student Advisors, and Professors. I highly recommend BU to working adults who have a very busy life. Just because many of their courses are online, doesn't make them easy. Each course has challenged me, and the degree is very much respected from many Fortune 300 companies. Take the negative reviews for what they are. I can't speak for them, but I have a hard time believing BU was as bad as they made it out to be, I should know, since I've been an active student with BU for the past 7 years. read more

I separated from the USAF in 2007 and taught English in Japan for the next few years. Since I only had an Associates degree, my job choices were very limited. I decided to pursue Bellevue's accelerated B.S. Behavioral Science since I could accomplish it in about one year after transferring all of my previous college credit. I was able to finish my degree in 15 months, and two months after having my degree conferred began a Masters program here in the U.S. I now work as a clinical mental health counselor, am nationally certified in my profession, have published research articles, and started my state's association for professional counselors. Obviously, not all of that is because of what I learned at Bellevue... but choosing Bellevue's accelerated program over other distance education was essential for all of this to happen as it did. Your experience is what you make it. If someone simply follows along in the class and does the minimum amount of work, he or she will probably pass although nothing will be learned. It's the same as anywhere. If you are an independent learner, and are motivated to apply what you learn to your current experience, Bellevue will probably be as great of a fit for you as it was for me. read more

Once I graduated from Bellevue University with my Bachelor of Science degree, I immediately started looking for a new job. I received not ONE call back from the many job applications/resumes I had submitted. Degrees from Bellevue are frowned upon in the Omaha area. It has a reputation of being a "diploma mill" and employers do not respect the degrees from there. I continued my education and eventually completed a Masters Degree at a large, known, university and after that, I had MANY job offers and landed the job of my dreams. I am not the only one this has happened to. One of my classmates completed her B.S. and M.A. from Bellevue University and is now working at the China Buffet because she can't get an interview with anyone here in Omaha. read more

The advising team is HORRIBLE! Ive been through at least four different advisors during my time at Bellevue. They rarely get back to you. I can't tell you the number of times I have sent emails inquiring about an academic plan or if I was even properly enrolled. If I wasn't so close to finishing, I would surely switch schools. Some of the instructors do not know the material they are "teaching". It's painfully obvious they are taking direct quotes from text books and relaying that information to students. I have been disappointed with the "busy work" given. I'd love to see meaningful assignments that actually relate to the material. I really hope they get it together. read more

I went to Metro then to UNO but at UNO I did not like the big class rooms. I also did not like the fact they would not except all my credits from Metro. So I decided to try Bellevue with their night school program and they excepted my credits. I had the same professor for a year and it was it work well with my schedule. I got my bachelors degree quickly and feel I learned a lot. I now have to spend many years paying back my student loan but that is just part of life. read more

Watch the numbers here VERY carefully! I enrolled in an accelerated B.S. program in the spring of 2012. From initial contact and continuing on until this spring, I was led to believe the total cost of the program was just over $13,500. In the fine print there is a requirement for a mysterious class called the Kirkpatrick Signature Series that you are required to take before receiving a degree, cost of the "class" at today's tuition rate is around $3600. What??? Oh yeah, after 13 grand and 9 months invested it seems like they figure they can get another 4 grand before they actually give you the degree they told you was around $13,000. Getting a straight answer from Financial Aid at BU is like getting a 3rd world customer service rep from Verizon Wireless to explain anything even remotely related to any question you ask them. Be very careful with these people there are much better choices out there. UPDATE! After corresponding with Iowa Department of Social Services regarding license in the state as a Social Worker I was told a requirement is that the program granting the degree be certified by the Council on Social Work Education. Guess what? Even after clearly stating my goal at the outset, I am now being told BU has no such certification! I should be amazed and appalled but I'm not, I do think it high time that the media was informed and an investigation undertaken of this overpriced diploma mill. read more

I'm a current online student at BU, but haven't taken a class in over a year because that class, the last one needed for my degree, is the mandatory 12-week Kirkpatrick Series. It's a 3-course cluster of American history and citizenship and includes a requirement that the student must do some civic volunteering. For me it's a huge waste of time and money because in my 38 revolutions around the sun as an adult I have taken so many similar classes and have spent uncountable hours volunteering, but none of that counts. Even though the Kirkpatrick Series is irrelevent to my degree in Behavioral Science, I do strongly believe that people should take courses outside a degree to be well-rounded. However, I've been-there-done-that, but BU won't relent. I'm also disappointed that the classes I've taken have not been as challenging as I had anticipated. Classwork is reading the textbooks (with some, but not much outside-the-textbook research), and then both writing essays submitted to the teacher and posting online so that fellow classmates can respond. Responding to others' postings is also required. Apparently most teachers subscribe to the philosophy that a student's thoughts are more important than grammar and spelling - errors in those areas don't seem to affect the grade. I can give a "high grade" to the way the online courses work, and the speed at which a student can get a degree, and the tuition costs are more affordable than some other brick-n-mortar or online schools. And I have "met" many great classmates. But some of my classmates struggled because writing was not a favorite pasttime and ultimately dropped out. Please know that a person who doesn't like to write will find BU online a struggle, too. Since I haven't graduated, I can't comment on the reputation of BU on a resume. However, I do have concerns on the increasing advertising I'm now seeing. It will either make Bellevue University more well known or make it look like another one of the diploma mills. read more

All I have to say is that "I LOVE BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY". I have done in-class and online classes and have always been pleased with the straightforwardness and patience of all my professors. Bellevue University is the place to be if you want to not only learn and be good in a certain degree of choice but also because they care and want everyone to succeed by providing all types of resources to help you accomplish all that you set out to do. I had some really hard classes in some of the courses but thanks to caring and understanding Professors pushing me to strive for the best, I made it through with good grades backing me up, and just let me add that their administrative team is awsome. read more

Those that are in "management" roles are not very responsive (they rarely ever answer a call or return a call or email) but the admission counseling ladies (I think there are a few of them) are very kind and professional. I have specific names, but since this is a public website, I'm keeping it general. The program at BU is more efficient than most other universities. I have a specified timeframe for completing my B.S., so I chose BU. I thought about why this is, and here is my conspiracy theory: The State Department and/or the CIA got together with BU and came up with a plan to attract interantional students from mostly from India, Nepal, Pakistan region. If you are able to attend a different university, do so. The experience that I've had since day one with Bellevue has been horrible! I have nothing bad to say about the curriculum, except I honestly didn't learn any thing new - I was never pushed to try. My worst experience has been with the staff. It is as if they are all employed by someone different because they are never on the same page. With this miscommunication issue comes more financial burden for myself and other classmates of mine. I attended class at an outside campus, not in Bellevue. I would just hope that they have their act together at the main campus - since they sure as heck don't have it together in Sioux Falls, SD. read more

After getting out of the Air Force with an Associates degree I chose to attend B.U. to complete my Bachelors in Marketing. I did the 15 month in-class accelerated program and really enjoyed it (I also gained a lot of knowledge). In fact, the Kirkpatrick Signature Series (some have complained about) was one of my favorite parts of the program! The Kirkpatrick Series had nothing to do with my degree but it is a curriculum I feel all American college graduates should be exposed to. Shortly before graduating with my Bachelors, I got a job I always wanted in the financial industry. A few years later I decided to pursue my Masters in Finance. I looked into a Creighton program (and they would've accepted my Bellevue credits) but I ultimately chose to go back to Bellevue and try the online program, since I no longer had time for the traditional in-class programs. I'm about halfway done with my Masters in Finance and I've learned a ton, things I actually take back to the office; but I have put quite a bit of effort into most of the classes. I already have a great job and I'm not directly going to school so I can change/ advance my career, (although I'm sure the degree won't hurt my resume) I'm doing the program simply because I want to gain more knowledge about the industry. For those who expect a degree to get you a job and change everything, I'm sorry to say you probably have a tough road ahead... For those who are already confident in their abilities and wish to take it to the next level, B.U. is a great school!!! read more

I am a new student at Bellevue University. Before i enrolled to my program I was promissed that i was not required to take any additional classes other than the evaluation they send me. After a month i enrolled to my BS Business Program, my advisor called me and said that they changed their mind and i have to take KirkPatrick Series and 7 additional credits. That's where they get people i guess. i will drop out of the program as soon as my first class is over which i am already overly charged. Yes, they also messed up my financial aid. read more

I enrolled in the accelerated program after transferring all of my credits from UNL, UNO, and Metro. Fortunately, they accepted virtually all of them. The few instructors I had live classes with were good though none stand out as being exceptional. I had top-notch instructors at UNL and UNO. The online accelerated program had a nice format that made it relatively easy for adults to get their degree. The amount of homework increased the further you got into the progam but that wasn't surprising given that they were senior level courses. I have two minor issues with the school. One is that I had a misunderstanding of how many credits I needed to graduate. I was led to believe I had three more credits than I actually did. The second is the cost. The program is pricey but I knew that going into it and I felt the trade-off was worth it. Plus my employer payed for a portion of it. All-in-all, it was a good experience and I would recommend BU to adults looking for a good school to complete their degree. If you're under 25 or so, I would recommend a more traditional school to get that college experience. read more

I began attending Bellevue this last spring, in hopes that the school would live up to it's noteworthy reputation as an excellent online school. My first quarter there was excellent. I had no complaints; everything seemed great. To my surprise, I was completely blindsided when I hadn't received my summer financial aid disbursement as expected. I called my financial aid advisor whom proceeded to sound puzzled and unaware as to what was going on with my financial aid. She then promised to investigate the matter, and get back to me. After an entire week of waiting for a call that never came, I decided that I would have to investigate the matter myself. I was then passed around from one person to another-all of whom had no answers for me. After another waiting period, I finally received a call from a woman whom I had never spoken to before, advising me that my financial aid was mistakenly packaged as a fulltime student, as opposed to the par time status it should have been packaged as in the first place. To add insult to injury, the disbursement that I had received in my spring quarter was a mistake, and I would have to paid it back! As a result of the carelessness and mishandling of my financial aid, I am now left with a negative balance, and unable to register for any future classes. Needless to say, I would have never expected that such a reputable school such as Bellevue would have created such a huge mistake. There is simply no excuse for such lack of attention to such important details. read more

The financial aid staff and counselors are not helpful at all and only get stuff done after much prodding from you. They are not flexible. As much as they pride themselves in being so, they aren't. I got an incomplete in a class and the professor didn't even tell me (I was in and out of the hospital pregnant with high blood pressure, blacking out... it was bad), he then gave me an IF - Incomplete F. I got an F in a class during the 6 weeks I had the baby and wasn't even offered an incomplete and the professor knew what was going on. The school knew my medical situation and swore up and down that they were flexible. If I had known that I would have to drop my classes and then pick back up later, I would have done so. My advisor was hard to find and then he was fired or he quit. I was given a new one and had no idea for a couple of weeks. This school needs to get their crap together. They send automated emails to you and the professor threatening to drop you from courses when you don't turn 1 assignment in. Even if you have worked everything out with a professor. OH and PROFESSORS DO NOT ACTUALLY WORK ANYTHING OUT WITH YOU. It will be my life's mission to tell everyone in every way I can digitally and in person that this school ruins GPA's and doesn't grade papers if they are late and treats mothers like shit. Overall great University if you are an adult student. They offer a large number of different Bachelor degree programs, plus they offer most classes online. The price is higher than University of Nebraska @ Omaha, but you get done a LOT faster, which easily makes up the difference! I have a couple of friends taking their Masters level courses and they love it. Faculty is friendly and go out of their way to work with students. Would have rated them 5 stars, but the Financial Aid process is kind of slow. read more

Prospective students beware. I'm hearing first hand accounts of graduates whose degrees from Bellevue University were never processed. When the formers students have tried to contact the university to rectify the situation (so that they can get accepted into other educational programs) there is little to no response. It appears that once Bellevue University has your money, they are no longer concerned about your future. read more

The one star ratings of this school are ridiculous. I have attended three different schools online and this has been by far the best. Look at those one star reviews closely and I think you can figure it out. I don't think you can call Bellevue a diploma mill. Many think that because they were at the forefront of the accelerated degree. MANY SCHOOLS ARE NOW DOING THAT. It saves the student and school money. Bellevue was one of the first legitimate online schools. Do a google search and you can see that nearly every school has an online degree program or offers online classes because it is so effective. The education that I received at Bellevue was extremely practical. I put it into practice as I was attending school....what employer wouldn't want that! I received a Masters degree that benefited me greatly and was also very practical. I've known plenty of people that graduated from a "big name university" but they just have a piece of paper. If employers won't hire a graduate from Bellevue, I wouldn't want to work there because that HR department doesn't know what they are doing.
