I went in to turn in paperwork to be reimbursed for gas money . I want to put it out there the paper did not have a deadline date . The reason I went In late May because the car insurance renewed early June . Anyways , The older woman in front gave me paperwork to fill out. She told me Nancy was busy that I could make an appointment and come in later. Yeah, nancy was so busy bad mouthing and gossiping about Claudia with the blonde hair with the older woman in front . Stating they didn't like her , Very professional. I filled out the paperwork and handed it in. I barely made it to my car before I got a call from Nancy yelling at me I had missed the deadline to turn in the paperwork. She demanded to know why I had set up an appointment if that was all I needed. I couldn't believe she was treating me that way and yelling at me. I calmly answered her that was the only reason. It took everything in me to be calm and not snap back. I was worried if I snapped there would be retaliation and I wouldn't be reimbursed. She continued to yell at me and finally put me on hold. She calmly told me I could go in and she would approve my paperwork . I'm guessing someone told her to relax . Whenever I have to deal with this department I dread it . Most of the staff is rude and with a poor attitude. I urge the district to read these reviews and do something about the staffs behavior. read more

As a parent of a child who attends a school in the Bellflower Unified School District, I occasionally need to seek services from the main office. My experience today was unfortunately horrible. I am assuming that the employees at this office have recently gone through some sort of safety training and that the policies of this office have changed as the entire building was in complete lockdown. All doors locked, signs saying appointments only and a electronic doorbell at the main entrance. Not knowing for sure what was going on, I rang the bell and was asked if I had an appointment. I said "no" and was greeted by a terse woman who was huffy about having to get up from her chair to open the door for me. I told her that I need to visit an office there to turn in some paperwork. How was I supposed to know that appointments were necessary now? No communication from the School District on this at all. She scolded me for not having an appointment but still let me in. I made my way to the office where I needed to turn some paperwork in. I entered and was greeted with unfriendly stares from 4 employees who were talking with each other. I was asked if I had an appointment. I said no. I said I was happy to make one but no one told me I had to make an appointment now to get services from the Bellflower Unified School District's main office. Very unfriendly looks and zero customer service as I was asked for the name of my student. I was given the paperwork necessary and started to fill it out. Meanwhile, one of the women who was working in the office came over and told me that they've been through a lot and that I should understand that the building is locked down now. I told her that there has been no communication with the customers (parents of children in this School District) and that how was I supposed to know if no one told me. Other employees chimed in and made more excuses about why appointments were necessary now. All the while I was getting dirty looks and treated poorly as if I was not supposed to be there. Finally, someone who I presume was the manager came over and shut the excuses and conversation down and apologized for the new policy. I turned in my paperwork and made my way out. All I can say is that these employees acted like scared mice in their office building and provided zero level of customer service. Dirty looks, excuses, poor attitudes and a general lack of desire to be friendly or helpful was the order of the day here. Exactly who are they supposed to be serving? The parents and the students. I think the employees of the BUSD main office need to understand why they are there and who funds their paychecks. They all need training in customer service on how to do simple things like smile, be friendly and how to not make excuses for poor policies. read more

Bellflower Unified School District has not taken care of the student that has been bullying my son. She has physically, verbally and emotionally abused my son through out this entire school year. She is now impeding on my son education because she purposefully broke my sons glasses which he needs to see. She has apparently not had enough severe consequences to stop doing these actions toward my son. They say they have a how tolerance policy for bullies and that after three times the child will be either transferred or expelled which neither has happened. My son has fought me for the past four months every morning to go to school because he is afraid that she is going to hurt him again. I have talked to the teacher, principal, and district. I guess it time to go to the state and make a complaint that they are letting this happen. After everything that has happened to Kenneth this year. He will not be going to this school nor this district next year. He is emotionally damaged due to the way this school has treated him and his concerns. And don't get me started on their special Ed department not giving my son what he needs. Worst school district ever. The Bellflower School District and the Principal at Craig Williams, Mrs. Stacey Williams failed my son. They claim to care about their students when all they care about is money. My son has an IEP due to being diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. I'm sure it cost the school more money to keep him versus a normal student. With that being said, we recently moved 2 minutes away from our old house which puts us in a new school district (Paramount). Our permit was denied and my son had 1 month left before the school year ended and was told his last day at Craig Williams was May 1st. We were already planning to enroll him at the new school Collins for 1st grade and was hoping he would finish Kinder at Craig. We begged and pleaded with the school district, filed an appeal and the Principal still denied our request. I even called the Special Education law firm to see if we have a case. Unfortunately, we don't because we're no longer live in that district and the Principal ultimately makes the final decision. The Principal claims he's taking another student's place who lives in the district. How is it in the students best interest to remove them 1 month before the school year ends?! Again it comes down to money! My son came home last week and told me his Open House was May 7th. He was so excited and my heart broke into a million pieces. How do I tell him he can't go because he's being kicked out?! I even mention that to the Principal during our meeting and she still didn't budge. I felt like she was so heartless and just doing her job. I know my son is being discriminated because of his IEP. Of course they are not going to tell you that to your face. I know other kids that live in our unit that goes to Craig Williams. Why aren't they being told they need to leave?! This is so frustrating and there's nothing I can do about it. If we knew this was going to happen, we would have not told the school we moved until the summer. I hope someone reading this will learn from my experience. This policy needs to change! If a student moves, the school should NOT demand that the student leave, if there's less than 90 days left before the school year ends. Unless of course it's by choice. I will make this suggestion to the school board, the CA Department of Education and anyone else that will listen. This story does have a happy ending. His new school Collins welcome us with open arms and was so nice and helpful. They will make room for him as early as May 2nd so he doesn't have to miss any school days. At the end of the day I know in my heart that this whole experience was actually a blessing in disguise. read more

My grandson has been going to Ernie Pyle for several years now. He has been mistreated in every sense, from IEP to Education and now band. What is wrong with this place? I have lived in Bellflower for over 40 years and my three sons went to school here. If Ernie Pyle does not get it together I am going to have to go to state board of education. IEP classes were scheduled but never completed. No one showed up to work with my grandson. Principle stated she would look into it but never did anything. Now year is ending and my grandson is suppose to be in band concert and was informed he will not because he can't be still. He has Attention Deficit. A lot of kids have it. When my daughter in law went up to school they said. Yes he can be in the concert but this is the only shirt we have for him. Really you purchase shirts for all the kids but mine. As good as the schools are in the district, the school district offices have the worst personnel, starting with the people at the front desk who act like you are bothering them when you walk in. then the permits department has not accountability for anything. They tell you they can not do anything at any point in the process. I checked with the school and they told me they had never received the request.
