We had already started the process of signing him in to the public school that pertained to our area. We walked in to the main officeof this dreaded public school and it felt like a DMV office. People with a blank stare like they didnt like there job and they made us feel like we were bothering them because we were keeping them from gossiping about their daily live. Full disclosure, im a father who may be a bit overprotective but with public schools being the way they are I wasnt about to leave my son just anywhere. Thankfully, we were blessed by the FISH radio station, because they were offering partial tuition to christian private schools and this one was the closest to our home. The very first day the receptionist, welcomed us in with a friendly smile and offered to show us around!!! Try asking for the tour at a public school and see the faces you get. This NCA school is small and homey and you know the staff understands that children will perform their best in a nurturing environment. You can even participate in the school which leaves you at easy because you feel like the school has nothing to hide......they get it!

I know a lot of kids that attend Union and they're so happy with their school. When I went to school here there was 30 kids in the whole school . All Seventh-day Adventist. So nice to get so much attention from your teachers . Much different vibe than public schools where there was 30 kids in a class . I loved pray together before lunch. It's important to have a grateful heart and to give thanks . Every once in a while they would make haystacks which is a very Seventh-day Adventist meal . Its like a taco salad just exchange the meat with Soy . Yummy! With only 30 kids in the whole playground Needless to say I was in charge. I recall picking what all of us we're gonna play at recess. A classmate of mine always reminds me about it. Now we're all grown and his kids have attended the school as well. That classmate grew up to be a pastor . So many things your kids are gonna learn in a public school . Subjects that don't align with your faith . You just want to protect your kids from things that they don't need to see , for as long as you can . I get it . I love that they didn't take God out of this school. He's just where he needs to be. All of them are loving, positive, and patient with us as parents. They provide great structure and individualized care in the classroom. The events at our school are second to none! Fiesta is will blow you away! Dances, paint parties, Bingo, Bowling nights, movie nights, trunk or treat... you can see why this school is a family! Is Valley a Christian school in name only?…read more If you are thinking about placing your child here, I can give you some insight. My wife and I were so green her freshman year. I could barely contain my excitement. Giving our daughter the gift of a private school education seemed out of reach, but Valley was accommodating. We made it happen, and that year was epic! My daughter played four sports and did really well in all of them. She finished with a 3.9 GPA, and we could not have been happier. Then, prior to classes starting sophomore year, at the girls' volleyball tryouts, we encountered something that we had only heard about and, transparently, did not believe existed: The Dutch Mafia! A quick history lesson: Valley was founded in 1935, and its historical ties trace back to Dutch immigrant communities in the local area (like Bellflower and Cerritos) who established it as a Reformed Christian day school. Some of the families who founded the school are still there--hence the term "Dutch Mafia." Now, back to the volleyball tryouts. There are a lot of details that could tell the story, but to keep an already long review a bit shorter, I will say this: based on how they separated the girls, we knew who was going to make which team. To say it was NOT based on ability, skill, or team needs is an understatement. I couldn't believe what was happening, but I should have known what was to come because of a foreshadowing incident during freshman season. Our starting libero was taken out in the middle of a game and had to give her jersey to the backup--not because she was playing badly or missing balls, but because the backup's mother complained to the head coach that her daughter wasn't getting playing time. That player's mother is a teacher at Valley, and our starter never went back into the game. When the team lists were emailed out, we understood what was happening. Returning players and incoming freshmen who were related to staff and coaches were placed on Varsity, even though they frankly were not that good. Girls who had been in the program since freshman year were not even given roster spots because they were seniors, and Varsity was the only option for them. I did the math after the lists came out: 44% of the available positions were given to freshman players. So, the incoming "Dutch" girls were so good that they took up almost half the roster spots across all three teams? Not likely. There was also some controversy that ended up getting the Varsity head coach, Jeff Ornee, unfairly dismissed. I found out later that the loudest voice calling for his termination was the coach who took over sophomore year. She completely destroyed the program with team selections based on clear nepotism and favoritism. She is a teacher at the school, by the way, and did such a horrible job that she quit, leading to another teacher taking over. I had high hopes, but the current coach is even worse. My daughter was placed on the frosh/soph team for her first two years and JV her junior year. She didn't make the Varsity team her senior year, and by now, you know why. By that time, she was completely burnt out on volleyball and having breakdowns, feeling like she wasn't good enough. Thankfully, she transitioned to an uncoveted sport (track & field) and no longer wanted to play volleyball for Valley or her club team. Our story is uniquely ours, but I can tell you that it is not the only one, and by far not the worst. I have firsthand knowledge of others, but those stories are not mine to tell. I would like to say that the teachers, security, and staff working behind the front desk at Valley Christian School were some of the sweetest and kindest people I've met. This review is not a reflection of them, their hard work, or their good hearts. Valley has some awesome traditions (Christmas time is epic), and if you choose to send your child here, they will receive a top-notch education and awesome Christian experiences--as long as they don't play one of the coveted sports.

Please also look the 1 & 2 star reviews for New Life Community Church under Yelp (some of which dates to over 6-15 years ago, which means this congregation/administration at New Life is complicit). They're unequipped to provide adequate care for your children nor keep your children safe. The head of the children's ministry, Tina Tribolet, who oversees New Life Preschool and their summer program Connecting Kids, is beyond rude as an educator and quite frankly shame on New Life for allowing her position as the children's pastor. Tina Tribolet removed my neurodivergent child from attending New Life under the pretense and I quote her verbatim that New Life is "not able to provide aid for such mental retardation." This statement from her left me in complete horror and shock. It worries me deeply that New Life has appointed a person that would make such a statement as the children's pastor and head of the children's ministry. (1) To parents with neurodivergent children, do not let Tina Tribolet groom you or your children into thinking your children is a problem that they're not. Her staff is uneducated and unequipped to guide your children with empathy and will isolate them as problematic. The children's ministry that oversees New Life Preschool and Connecting Kids does not allow for diversity and inclusion as they claim on the New Life website. I also question the credibility of Tina Tribolet in general as her staff Miss Luna left me a voicemail 2 hours prior to our conversation that completely contradicts her accusations towards my child. In the voicemail, Miss Luna stated my child was doing great that day with much improvement. Interestingly enough, I receive a call a bit later from Tina making wild accusations and that my child is no longer welcomed at New Life. It was during this conversation that Tina stated New Life no longer receives funding for my child's "mental retardation." Parents, I urge you to not subject your children to the scrutiny of her questionable ethics and practices. (2) To parents with children with medical conditions, there is a huge gap in staff to student ratio. Which needs to be brought to attention as they have one of the bigger facilities and play area in the nearby cities. Moreover, the staff that actually watches and interacts with the children are very young themselves. The staff evidently lacks teaching experience and leadership skills, which are both crucial to make fair judgement and compassionate support for our children. During bubble/water play day, my child bumped into another child as he caught bubbles/soap in his eyes and could not see. The other child, who has a history of seizures, ultimately fell and hit his head. From my conversation with Miss Taylor Harrison the day after, I want to make it very clear that there was no staff that actually witnessed this NOR was nearby to help the children. As a result, Miss Taylor scapegoated my child in what it seems as an attempt to avoid liability. My child said non of the staff questioned or even attempted to ask him what happened, and immediately pointed fingers at my child and punished him for their inability to maintain a controlled environment. After leaving New Life, my child was enrolled in a different facility right away and I received no complaints. The educator that runs the new facility said she had no idea what Tina Tribolet was talking about in regard to my child's behavior. Apparently New Life has a running reputation for how young and untrained their staff is. I have been meeting moms after moms that have had similar experiences with Tina Tribolet and cannot believe her rudeness and absolute audacity. I wish I knew about this before enrolling my child into New Life and I hope no other children come close to how badly Tina Tribolet made me, my child, and all other parents/children I've spoken to felt.
