That is FAR too convenient, to be honest. :) I'm always on the lookout for new and/or craft and/or local beer, and this place Has It All. I've never been disappointed and I've often found something I 100% did not expect to find. They have a huge/vast/ENORMOUS selection of beers here. Even on those occasion when I want something but I don't know what I want, I can find something. While I'm not much of a wine drinker, they have a pretty robust (robust?) selection of wines as well. Likewise the liquors, all logically arranged and merchandised. The staff here is always pleasant and fun, and, unless they're busy, don't mind taking a few moments to engage in some small talk. They're also well versed in what they have and have never failed to help me make the best decision to properly enhance my hangover the next morning. I have one issue with this location, and it's nothing that I'd take star away for. The parking lot is dark, even though there are lights outside. We finally decided to ask about that and it goes back to when there was an ATM installed a couple years ago and the ATM installer cut a cable and hasn't repaired it yet. I love this location of Belmont Beverage. When you walk in there are vast tracts of land with alcohols of every conceivable kind. It's kinda like a kid and an adult candy store.

Staff is very friendly and willing to help with any questions you may have. This store is filled with the oldies but classic goodies as well as upcoming trends in the liquor scene and local distilled, brewed, or barreled in Fort Wayne. They often have prices marked down on sale which ends up being a great deal. It's sometimes a good markdown. They have cold beer on hand in the coolers and they have lots of side items such as butters simple syrup salts and tons of mixers. It's fun to see what new items they have what's been marked down and what you can't leave the store without. Behind the counter they have a wide variety of cigars and cigarettes and the supplies to go with that hobby. Along with that they have bottle openers gift bags nuts and gum. Plus much more. What I love about this location as well as their others is that hey offer alcohol tastings at various times. And for FREE!! I enjoy coming to these because it lets me taste things that I have been wanting to try but didn't want to spend the money on it if I didn't enjoy it. I think some of that energy starts with the sign on the door that says that you need to be prepared to show that you're 21+ in order to enter. I entered, and no one asked me whether I was over 21. Alrighty then! I visited because I wanted a bottle of wine to take back to my hotel. I read that Rudy's has wine, and they do, but it's a small wall of wine with maybe a dozen different bottles. Two of the bottles are from Oliver Winery (too sweet for me, I already know), and maybe four other bottles also looked light and sweet. I ended up finding a decent-looking Pinot Noir that was a little more than I wanted to pay initially, but once I opened it, I could see where the extra couple of bucks went. It was a good bottle of red. But, if you're looking for a variety of wines, this is not the place to visit. And if you're looking for beers, the same applies. They do have some beers in a refrigerator, but they're sparse. Mostly, though, Rudy's is a cigar bar, and everything about it screams cigars once you step inside. I know very little about cigars beyond what my dad has imparted upon me; he has taken up smokin' stogies in the past couple of years. Though it's called a shop, it seemed to me to be anything but. It's a cigar house, yep, a literal house with a porch, a front yard with seating and a view of a baseball field, a member lounge complete with a full kitchen, amazing back yard seating areas culminated with an incredible two-story deck. They carry a pretty great selection of cigars and accessories, local wines and chocolates, drinks, snacks, and Rudy's merch. I'd travel back to Fort Wayne just to hang out there. The owner is originally from Michigan. The staffer who graciously served as my guide shared with me that the shop folk take a cigar train trip twice a year. Lady behind the counter has just awful customer service. I know I sounded naïve because I couldn't pronounce Teremana (I just showed her a picture) or even say the name of what style I wanted (I said yellow. Not that hard to pick up the Reposado and say oh this is how you say it or this is what it is. It has a yellow tint to it.) but that doesn't give anyone the excuse to be rude. Like help me out. I don't need an eye roll. Body language all off. Also states in the door new id protocol but then never even asked for it. I'm glad I'm not a boozer. I'd hate to get ripped off by her. THe service was nice, albeit creeper a bit. You can buy single bottles or cases but you can not split cases to buy single bottles/cans. At that point, we noticed that they had put away most of the meat on display, even though it was only 5:45. We felt very uncomfortable and decided not to stay. We won't return. We understand wanting to get home on a Sunday night, but if your hours are until 6:00, why are you packed up before that time and treating your customers like an inconvenience? Change the hours to 5:30, close the doors and you can get home by 6:00!

Day two of our road trip to San Diego... stop 1…read more Before we could head out of Fort Wayne, and after we thanked our Fort Wayne hosts Phil and Linda for their wonderful hospitality, we had to stop by the Cap 'n Cork for some microbrew. "Why Corey did you have to stop by for microbrew in Fort Wayne, IN," you ask? Well, on our stay in St. Louis, we promised that we'd bring some Michigan microbrew to our new CS (CoushSurfing) friends as they are avid beer fans and drinkers. A special request we were more than happy to fulfill, except we forgot to get the beer in Michigan... oops! Alas, Indiana also has great microbrew not available to the St. Louis beer aficionado, so that would have to suffice. I was actually referred by Phil and Linda to purchase some growlers at the local brewery/restaurant Mad Anthony, but this was 9:30 am and they weren't set to open until 11am. Plan B was set into motion and we called upon the local booze chain Cap 'n Cork to see if they could help, and by George they could! Just a few miles away, the local Cap 'n Cork, situated in an odd looking 1970s construction German village type strip mall, was open for business and ready to serve. The gentleman manning the store was more than informative and helpful and pointed us to the cooler where we could get a couple six packs of the Mad Anthony and then remarked that they just got a local variety pack in from the Upland Brewing Co. called the "Local Twelver" which is very popular. So we bought both. Duh! A great start to a great day of road tripping! Now, I give this spot 3 stars for the lack of liquor and wine variety, but added a star for the knowledgeable and helpful mate behind the counter. 4 stars for the Cap 'n Cork. Tip: head to their Web site, as they offer a variety of classes and tastings at their locations. If you're around to catch one, they're free so why not!?
