I…read morehave mild, hypertonic cerebral palsy and up until 2022, had not received PT for over a decade. But when I was diagnosed with vestibular-ocular dysfunction, my neurologist prescribed PT as part of the treatment plan. I was pretty nervous to start PT again. I had kind of "cloudy" memories of PT as a kid--people who focused only on what was "wrong" with my body, did not want to relate to me as a person, and used negative reinforcement (do this or you will lose the ability to walk/end up in chronic pain/have to have scary medical procedures). I was afraid the staff at Pro would see me as a "patient" who was just a lot of trouble, a whiner, a disabled person who was "less." I am so pleased to say, I was proven wrong from day one! Everyone at Pro, from the therapists to the office staff, is wonderful. I was treated as a partner in care, an intelligent participant, and someone everyone looked forward to talking with and being around. My questions were always answered thoroughly and my input was valued. I built unique rapport with everyone and learned useful, easy techniques I can do independently at home and keep up with. Additionally, I'm pleased and surprised at how much physical therapy has changed since the '90s. That is, I kind of absorbed a "no pain, no gain" philosophy, so I needed to relearn some things. Namely, just because I was not in pain, didn't mean I wasn't reaping some sort of benefit. Actually, I have always been encouraged to go at my own pace, give myself a lot of grace, and not expect perfection. Not that I'm very good at those last two, you understand, but well, it's a work in progress. I want to give a particular shout-out to Jenny Alderson, Tyler Arring, and Ashley Gibbs as the therapists I worked with the most. They all have wonderful personalities and bring something unique to the table, whether that's humor, empathy, an amazing knowledge of neurology, and often a combination of those and more. Also, a shout-out to Jill and Annie for their patience and gifts with juggling all those schedules! If I didn't mention or work with you, please know I did not mean to leave you out. You were all a huge help and I appreciate that you are just a phone call away. I won't necessarily miss the therapy itself, as it is difficult, but I did love working with everyone. I was impressed so now I am seeing her for some lingering Sciatica issues. Again, very manageable yet effective exercises to get me feeling great again! I have gone to a few different PT's over the years but felt her consultation was more thorough and she actively listened to what I had to say. And bonus she is easy to reach if you have any questions or concerns, she is very responsive. I don't feel that I have had that high level of service at other PT Clinics. Therapists/medical staff are great, but billing is very shady and/or incompetent. Stuck me with an…read moreunexpected bill of nearly $500. I reached out to Compass a few months ago after getting a referral from my doctor to help with some back pain issues. When I reached out to them, I let them know that a previous PT office I was referred to had initially told me Aetna would cover everything and I'd just be responsible for a $50 copay. The other physical therapist office let me know prior to my first appointment however that after running my insurance, my cost per appointment would be significantly higher and suggested I cancel and find somewhere Aetna would cover. Soon after, I reached out to Compass, let them know about this entire situation over email, and got confirmation that my copay would only be $50. I scheduled my first appointment and three subsequent ones - paying $50 each time. A couple of weeks later I get a call from the staff who runs insurance/billing letting me know there was some miscommunication or mistake and Aetna would not in fact be covering my previous appointments and the amount owed would be substantially higher. I told them I'd like to cancel all future appointments then, given that it was way more expensive. I then got a call from the therapist I worked with (Eric, who was great) asking why I had missed my last appointment. I guess the billing staff I talked to didn't actually delete my appointments in their calendar. He said he'd look into it and see what's going on. A few weeks later, I get a surprise bill in the mail for $490 for the 4 appointments I had. A call with Compass confirmed that yes, I do owe them the full amount. I was told it would be $50 per appointment when I scheduled the appointments (and was encouraged to schedule in advance to make sure I got a spot in their schedule) then was slapped with a bill of roughly $172.50 per appointment. I guess I could only recommend this place if you're 100% sure your insurance will cover it, but even then you better get it in writing or they'll probably try and screw you over like they did to me. In a situation like this, I'd expect the practice to waive the cost as it was their fault in not doing their due diligence or communicating the cost at the time of the appointments being scheduled.

I'd forgotten my iPhone at home so she told me to go home and call my insurance company and I could cancel for that day - no problem. The next month they charged me $50 for leaving and not paying the $100. For 4 months I called their billing dept. and never received a call back. The intake people, Brenda and Phoebe, were very nice and listened to my story but said they had no authority to cancel the payment. Then I'm told the owner, Seth, heard my explanation and said I owed him $50. He would not talk with me neither would Stephanie, head of billing. I also learned they charge $165 or so for an evaluation and it's out of pocket with no insurance accepted. Strange policies at this place.

I am writing this review to warn others about the deeply troubling care my mother received at The…read moreLodge at Mills River. What she endured during her stay was not merely substandard -- it was a failure of basic human dignity that no patient should ever experience. My mother was admitted with a fractured pelvis, a serious and painful injury requiring careful, attentive care. Instead, pain management was grossly inadequate -- her suffering was never brought under control, and she was left in visible, prolonged distress. The facility does not provide patients with catheters despite limited mobility, leaving her lying for hours at a time in her own urine and excrement. This alone is a profound failure of basic nursing care. This is done to encourage patients to get out of bed, one staff member told me. When staff finally did attend to her, the handling of her body was alarmingly awkward. During cleaning, they moved her from side to side applying direct pressure to her fractured pelvis -- causing her tremendous, unnecessary pain. Whether this was due to a lack of training or simple carelessness, it is completely unacceptable for a patient with a known pelvic fracture. The environment itself was deeply distressing. A patient in an adjacent room could be heard repeatedly crying out "help me" -- for an extended period -- with no response whatsoever from staff. That sound will stay with me. It was not an isolated moment; it reflected the culture of neglect that seemed to permeate this facility. The attitude of much of the staff compounded everything. Several wore permanent scowls and did not mask their resentment when asked to respond to my mother's needs. Compassion and patience -- the very foundation of caregiving -- is in short supply when your job is driven by the numbers. I would urge anyone considering The Lodge at Mills River for a loved one to look elsewhere. Families trust these facilities with the people they love most, often at their most vulnerable. That trust was utterly broken here.

My aunt recently completed a short term stay at the Lodge at Mills River following a brief…read morehospitalization. Every staff member our family has interacted with has been friendly, gracious, and caring, starting with Mr. Peters who consistently greets everyone with a smile and a helping hand when they walk in the door. The nursing staff are phenomenal! I have to thank Nurse Cynthia and the Medical Director, Dr. Russell, who helped us get my aunt settled in on Day One. Amanda and Eva have diligently followed up to make sure that my aunt, who requires extensive medical services, always gets the best possible care. Her nurses, including Elizabeth, Marco, Carole, Sean, Mallory, Julia, Olivia, Mike, and Sierra (I'm sure I'm leaving someone out, and I apologize!) are always kind, gentle, professional, and accommodating. They go out of their way to make sure she is happy and comfortable. I just can't say enough about the consistently excellent level of care. My aunt received Speech, OT, and PT services that were specifically designed to meet her individually prescribed goals. My aunt participated in determining what her goals would be in a way that honored and respected her agency. Her progress was regularly measured and shared with her as well as the family. We would like to thank her therapists Nicole, Brook, Katie, Kate, Julie, and Sam (again I'm sure I'm unintentionally leaving someone out!) for all their hard work and for always going the extra mile to meet my aunt's needs, including procuring specific equipment to help her meet her goals. The therapists work together seamlessly to provide excellent support every day, including weekends. The nutrition services at the Lodge are excellent and personalized. Individual requests are not only tolerated but encouraged. The office staff at the lodge know and care about each patient individually. Susan and Shannon have patiently answered all of the family's questions and concerns as my aunt has recently transitioned from short term care to long term care due to her condition. And finally, our enduring gratitude goes out to Courtney, the utterly amazing social worker at the Lodge, who deeply cares for each patient, coordinates services, answers so many questions with grace and patience, and thinks outside of the box to help patients like my aunt live the most fulfilling life possible in difficult circumstances and with attention to dignity.
