In April 2025, I visited the Ballantyne office to purchase a new set of orthotic inserts. This was my second purchase from this practice, with my first pair obtained more than four years earlier. My clinical experience was excellent. Dr. Glaser provided outstanding care, and I have no concerns regarding the medical treatment received. The issue relates solely to billing and administrative handling. I chose to pay for the orthotics out of pocket rather than submit through insurance. I made two payments: an initial deposit and a final payment at the time I picked up the inserts. In June, I received a bill indicating a balance of $585. The statement showed three-line items: two billed to insurance and one reflecting my self-payment. After reviewing the statement with the billing company, I was informed that the charges were coded incorrectly and required correction by the office staff. I contacted the office twice to explain the issue. After the first call, I believed it had been resolved; however, I received another bill. I called again and reviewed the charges line by line. On July 12, 2025, I received a voicemail from April (which I still have) confirming that I did not owe any balance. She apologized for the lack of progress, stated that the billing manager was addressing the issue, and confirmed that all outgoing statements would be stopped. Based on this communication, I believed the matter was resolved. On December 10, 2025, I received a notice indicating the account had been sent to collections. I visited the office during normal business hours, but the staff was unavailable due to doctors being in surgery. Subsequent phone calls on December 18, January 13 and January 16 resulted in incorrect extensions, redirection to another location that could not assist, and missed opportunities to resolve the issue. I did speak with a staff member named Cristina, who was polite and attempted to help but was unable to resolve the matter. I also contacted the collections agency multiple times. They reached out to the office, and I was later informed by Jamie that there was no record indicating the issue had been resolved. This billing issue has been ongoing since June 2025. Despite multiple phone calls and an in-person visit, the error has not been corrected, and I have not received follow-up communication confirming resolution. My concern is not with the quality of medical care, which was excellent, but with the administrative and billing processes that led to an unresolved error and an account being incorrectly sent to collections.

Throughout the course of my visit, Dr. Garten and her staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable through the appointment. Check-in was a breeze, even for someone like me who is a new patient. Dr. Garten's nurses were also very sharp. Dr. Garten herself was a pleasure. She made me feel right at home, listened to my concerns, offered candid thoughts, and didn't hesitate to get me x rays and a brace. Her style was casual but very thorough and precise. It felt like I was being looked at by an old friend as opposed to a complete stranger. I was sent home with exercises for my ankle, a brace, medicine for swelling and even a copy of my x rays. I'm now confident that if I follow the steps Dr. Garten outlined for me, that I will be good to go in a few short weeks. Dr. Garten was a huge help and every step of the experience was wonderful! So I went in for an 815a appointment on Monday, MLK Day. I completed all the forms in advance on their website so the check-in at the Kiosk when you enter was was smooth. It was very busy for that early on a Monday morning. But I was called back within about 10 minutes. I met with an assistant, who asked a lot of questions, she left and came back in about 5 minutes and said they needed X-Rays. Another 5 minutes and I was in and out of X-Ray. In another 5 minutes Kevin McCullough, PA came in and asked a few more questions, we talked about the X-Rays and his diagnosis. Some long worded medical term but he said it's called 'trigger finger'. He said the repetitive use of my right hand gripping the club contributed to it, plus my age plus a chronic medical condition I have. He gave me a steroid injection and said that should resolve it. If after about a week or two, if it continues to give a call and it may mean out-patient surgery. When you get of a 'certain age' these things become typical so I'm not surprised. The good news, OrthoCarolina is a top tier medical provider. Their process and their people make things like this smooth and easy. I was in and out in about 30 minutes and had the info I needed: diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. I felt real good about everything.

Please Read: My elderly mom is at this facility, and the top administrators are terrible. They…read morerefuse to take responsibility for their serious mistakes and gaslight me whenever I confront them. The latest incident involved their failure to notify me when my mom fell at the facility. They sent her to the ER and had a contracted after-hours medical service call me from an 1800 number at 6:48 AM. This provider didn't inform me to look out for such a number in emergencies, so even if I had been awake, I wouldn't have known to answer. The Optum service team admitted they couldn't provide a specific number because calls come from various numbers. The facility claims Optum acts as their extension, while Optum says they aren't employees of the agency and that their relationship with the facility does not stop the facility nursing staff (staff in general) from contacting me directly. My mom has been at this facility for years, and they have always called me in the past when she fell or needed to go to the hospital, not the contracted Providers. From what I understand ( by research) this appears to be a state and federal violation. The bottom line is that my confused elderly mom was sent to the ER without my knowledge, and I only discovered it the next day when I noticed a wristband on her. She told me she asked the nursing home to call me, but they didn't. The facility continues to avoid accountability, as usual. I requested their grievance policy and form to file a complaint but was denied. Their regional Director decided he would not afford me this right and had the form completed by their Administration, not reflecting my chief complaint. I've received conflicting answers from the facility and the State Rep responsible for holding them accountable. This has been an ongoing battle just to protect my mom's rights and not be bullied by Administration (ignoring me many times, dismissing my concerns and gaslighting me) there because I am advocating for her.
