I called first and explained to Nick, the employee who answered, that my car beeps when I open the driver's side door even though the key is not in the ignition. Nick said that they could take a look at it right away. I also asked if they charged a diagnostic fee (I had called my dealership about the issue first and they had a mandatory $180 diagnostic fee exclusive of the cost to actually fix the issue), and Nick said they were happy to take a look at it for free. So I brought my car in the very next day and while waiting for the fix, got a cup of coffee and a huge cinnamon roll while I worked on my laptop in the lounge at Laurie's Grill two blocks away. 2.5 hours later, I got a call that my car was ready and the total cost was only $85 (less than half the cost of just the diagnostic fee at the dealership!). Good services, nice people, fair prices. My husband and I have been customers of Bend Lock & Safe at least a dozen times in the dozen plus years we've lived in Bend. Today it was to re-key the lock in a cast bronze front door set. (We replaced the door. Sadly, couldn't use this spendy existing door handle on the new door and thought it best to change the lock before selling the handle set.) In less than ten minutes, the lock was re-keyed with new keys to boot. We've also used Bend Lock & Safe for having house keys and car keys made. They also sell safes (duh) and locking door sets. I hear they also provide on call service if you lock yourself out of your house or vehicle. We've never had to ask for that help, but nice to know they drive to where you need them to be in Central Oregon if that happens. This small business has been in business since 1968 - Lyndon Johnson was President and Neil Armstrong had not yet walked on the moon. Bend Lock & Safe is long lived because it is well run. We're fans. THIS N THAT: 1) Conveniently located on Franklin, a block or two off Highway 97. 2) Parking in small lot in back. 3) Barrier free - universally accessible from parking in the door and throughout. 4) Closed on Sunday. I've lived in Bend for over 25 years, and have used the services if Bend Lock & Safe (BL&S) several times. I always found them to be competent and competitive. Recently I purchased a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee from Hertz that only had one key fob, (shame on Hertz) and I needed a backup fob. Since BL&S helped when the fob on my 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee died, I called them for a quote. The BL&S person on the phone told me that this was a complex task, require removal of the car's instrument panel, and the cost could be as much as $500. Since the cost seemed unconscionable, I called Knight's Locksmith, received a $125 quote, $45 for the Fob, and $80 for programming. I accepted the quote, and the fob was ordered. A few days later the locksmith came to my home, and completed the job in 30 minutes, sans removal of the instrument panel. I don't know why the BL&S information was so inaccurate, but to me, it seemed like an inexperienced, young man shooting off his mouth. Still, BL&S is culpable since they permit him to answer the phone. read more
