My experience with Great Northern was excellent. They arrived on time, were experienced craftsman and did beautiful work. Our house is over 100 years old, and the windows were equally as old. They worked carefully and repaired or replaced the inevitable damage in the old wood. I can't speak highly enough of their work and the windows! We had 3 windows replaced, 1 very large and 2 smaller. The sales team and installation were 5 stars. The problem came when on delivery when they unwrapped the windows there was a chip in a largest pane and a broken screen on a smaller window. No fault of this installer. They told us that they would arrange for the repair through Milguard's warranty. This was mid-March. Mid-May and we still hadn't heard anything. So we started calling. We were told a few different things each time we called. A manager would call us back- they never did. It was up to Milguard and they had no control- turned out not to be true. I even asked them at that time, if I needed to call Milguard if they could just point me in the right direction, again no returned call. Finally last week (late June) my husband went in person. That day I got an email from Milguard stating the ticket had been created. 3 months and multiple phone calls and they had never even put in the ticket. Once the ticket was put in the screen was ordered and shipped within 2 days through Milguard. If anyone had ever bothered to call us back, we probably could have figured this out the first time we called. And mistakes happen, we would have understood. But being told things that were not true and having no follow up was not acceptable. 5 stars for product and installation. 0 stars for follow up with customer service. Cannot recommend. We had 8 more windows and a slider to replace, needless to say we will look elsewhere. read more

I worked with GNW&D recently to replace two large windows for a sliding glass door. Overall, this company sang for their supper. They were very responsive to my initial requests, came out to the house several times to measure, measure again and re-measure (which always makes me feel better). They were exceptional communicators through the whole process and their onsite team was fast, tidy, great communicators and made sure I was happy with the work when it was all said and done. There were other companies on Yelp that I called that did not immediately return my call or give me an appropriate bid (i.e., they just "phoned it in"), but that was not the case here. I would absolutely work with them again! read more

Unfortunately I had multiple bad experiences with Great Northern on window repair work. First they showed up without balancers to do repairs on six windows but replaced two glass panes well. I was told they didn't have the balancers and the person didn't know why. They came back with balancers another time and they ordered the wrong ones and told me they'd have to order others and come back. They may try and reschedule you with different times after scheduling you as well, which happened to me multiple times. They may also schedule you before having the parts and then tell you they need to reschedule because of a delay in actually getting said parts, which also happened. The General Manager may argue with you, deflect and provide excuses that aren't your problem and also happened. Suggest avoiding them for most repairs but glass replacements worked out. read more

I wrote a review a few years ago and gave them a one-star rating. Last year it was time to paint the outside of my house. As I was using a garden hose to spray the shingles down on the upper story of a two-story house above a window water was leaking into the house. We had to replace half of our garage' sheetrock due to water damage. As I inspected other windows around the house for caulking, I found where you could not see the upper portion of the windows it was never caulked. One other thing I left out on my original post was that the salesman told us he would work with Cental Electric on getting our rebate. Since the job was not pre-approved by Cental Electric we lost hundreds of dollars. The cracks on our front door fame have only gotten worse. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. read more

These guys do amazing work. I hired them to replace some parts on windows built in 2000. They found some difficult to track down parts. They tracked down the parts and installed and repaired my windows. They also advised me on lubricating and maintaining the windows. One repair they performed was very intricate. Their tech Corey did a fantastic job. He was a pleasure to work with. The owner Dylan was also great to work with. I would highly recommend them for their outstanding quality of work. Go no further for window installation. Sales reps were knowledgable about local utility credits which saved me almost $1000 and gave me a prompt and fair bid. I had some challenging window change outs/modifications and the installation crew was able to problem solve instantly and complete the job quicker than expected. They were prompt hard-working and cleanly . The installation looks flawless and their highly experienced installation leads will no doubt give you the highest quality results. Jocelyn is amazing! I called to have my balancers replaced and she was able to squeeze me in right away even though they were so busy. Now I can open my windows without having to use something to prop the window up! Thank you SO much Jocelyn!! You have made this hot spring so much more bare-able!! We are a few months away from adopting two special needs boys so time is a premium. I had pulled our great room / dining room sliding glass door to replace the rollers. After a trip to the local box store I ended up with parts that would not work and was now dealing with a three year old Houdini who could not have access to a sliding glass door leaning against the couch. Paula came right out to check the door two hours after I called Great Northern Window and Door. She made the effort to drive my bad part back to the office. I have yet to hire this company to do any work. On two occasions I have spoken with them over the phone and been very disappointed. The first time was to have the Milgaard Windows installed that I had purchased,. This was about 1-1/2 years ago and the gentleman I spoke with at the time said he couldn't help me that he was too busy. Recently I requested a quote for a patio door through Milgaard's website. I received a phone call the next day from a woman at Great Northern who said she was calling to set up an appointment. When I asked why I needed an appointment she explained that they needed to come measure for my new door. I explained that I already had the measurements and just wanted a quote for the door and installation. She seemed quite discontent with my request, so I said okay send someone out, but it needs to be on a Saturday because I work during the week. She said they were closed on Saturday. Then we were cut off, probably because of poor cellular service. However, after trying three times to call her back and getting a busy signal I gave up. I've never heard back from them or received a quote. Very disappointing. read more

Great Northern and Window and Doors really screwed me over! I called them to get a quote for insurance which they quoted $2,040, which I submitted to my insurance and they approved the quote. When I called Great Northern, they came back out to re-measure and said they would call me back. No phone call and I had to chase them down about the installation. A month later, again no one called me back and I had to chase them down again. This went on for several months! I called and spoke to the receptionist and asked what was going on I really need to get his done before my insurance claim expires or do I need to go somewhere else???? She told me If I were you I'd go somewhere else!!! Pretty crappy when their own employees tell you should go somewhere else. A month later I starting talking to a guy in the queue at the supermarket and come to find out he works at Great Northern, said he was an installer now going into management, I told him about my experience and he said that's not right! He took my card and said he would contact me next week! Surprise, surprise no one contacted me! After several months with these guys I started looking for other window and door places and come to find out the cost to replace my kitchen window is double what they quoted and now I'm screwed because insurance won't approve the larger amount because of the inaccurate quote they gave me. Very frustrating and horrible service! Its bad enough dealing with stuff when your house gets damaged and the challenge of an insurance claim - so much for keeping it local and helping people out in our community when they need help! read more

Never would I ever hire this business again. The damage they did to my place. Did not finish caulking around the windows. Tried to install a damage window and got upset when I refused the window. They had to router my inside trim before installing the window. The person doing it was using a dull router bit and it was smoking so bad he chewed up a lot of my trim. You would think the person would stop when the bit was so dull. Installed a front door in which the door frame was cracked and the door had a ding on the back part. Never saw the ding in the door till later but was told the frame was not cracked paint would hide what they said looked like a crack. It was a crack and the paint does not hide it. They mis-ordered a door going into my garage and could not get another door for a week or so. We were going on vacation and had our garage wide opened. All that could be done was to put a sheet of black plastic over the door opening. One kid was so busy looking at his watch every 15 minutes to see if it was time to go. Hole in the door frame where a drill bit hit and they never patched the hole. Such sloppy work. read more

We asked Great Northern Window and Door to give us an estimate for maybe installing glass block to replace two large bathroom windows. (Are picture windows in a bathroom a Bend thing?) Corey arrived to make the estimate. He told us there was a simpler and less expensive solution of using obscuring glass to replace the current glass panes in the windows. Great news. After Corey measured the two large windows in this master bath and another bathroom, and after on offhand question about a stuck window (for two years) in a bedroom he quickly had the window open and explained what the issue was and fixed it. After Corey installed our choice of opaque safety glass in the first windows, we liked the effect of so much of the quality of the increased light for the bathroom that we asked for a third and then a fourth window to be done. Corey worked carefully and quickly and we love the results of his excellent work. After one of these visits, since we kept calling them back for one window after another to be done, in response to mention of a chronic problem with an exterior door he perfectly diagnosed the problem and applied a permanent fix using longer screws into the doorframe through one hinge. We dealt with Corey and Brandon and their office people and all are professional, personable and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended. read more

Beware of your 30 "free" estimate. My appointment was on 4/30 but the estimate was dated 4/25 & didn't get delivered to me until 5/9 (which I called several times asking when I could expect it). I called on 6/13 to get clarification on something & was told they would get back to me, nothing!! I called again today 6/21, they were no help because I was passed my 30 "free" estimate date, which is something I wasn't even aware existed. Communication is a real problem, will be doing business with another local company. read more

In 2011 we purchased all new windows for our 1932 house in Bend. All double pane, combination of double hung & awning type, 13 in total. They looked great. The problem is they do not open & close easily & also the latch mechanism is very difficult to close. You have to hold & push up as hard as you can on the top window while trying to slam down the bottom window to get it to latch closed. It usually takes me at least 6 times slamming & pushing if I don't have to call my husband to do it for me. They do not glide up or down easily at all. It is an exercise in aggravation every single time. Soon after ordering, I reported this to the rep & he offered no helpful suggestions. I also feel they are too cold to the touch which makes them feel drafty. The other problem is condensation. The rep said the condensation was because I have window coverings over the windows & hot air gets trapped....huh?! In my previous home, different vendor, the new windows kept a even temperature, no draft or condensation at all which is what anyone would expect when purchasing all new windows. That vendor did not install in my area at the time. We experienced forgotten appointments, forgotten orders which we had to follow up on ourselves & unreturned phone calls from our rep. The actual owner was a pleasant man who actually did the installation & seemed to take great pride in his work. He doesn't run the day to day operations unfortunately. read more
