I hired them for roughly $100,000 worth of residential landscaping work (no hardscaping, just grass, mulch and planting), and the results were extremely disappointing -- both in workmanship and customer service. The experience deteriorated to the point where I had to threaten legal action and report them to the Oregon CCB for breach of contract before anyone took my concerns seriously. A few highlights from the experience: * The project manager showed up to my property multiple times smelling strongly of alcohol -- on the rare occasions he actually came to the job site. * The professionally designed landscaping plan we paid for and provided to Newport was not followed. Major deviations were made without approval, which created unnecessary issues throughout the project. * Their estimate severely underbid the amount of mulch required for the property -- by more than 40 yards. This caused delays, frustration, and obvious concerns about the competence of the planning process. * Coordination between Newport Landscaping and Thompson Pump & Irrigation was terrible. I essentially had to act as the general contractor myself just to get the irrigation pond functioning properly, and it took months to resolve. * Jana, who I believe is an administrative manager, initially came to the property, listened to concerns, and assured me they would make things right. Unfortunately, nothing meaningful happened until I began threatening legal action and filing complaints with the CCB. There's far more I could say, but the bottom line is this: this company appears far too large and disorganized for the level of professionalism they advertise. Even some of their own employees openly complained about the company and management while on-site, which frankly is embarrassing. Read the 1-star reviews carefully. You may get lucky and have a good experience, but you may also end up deeply regretting your decision like I did.

For those visiting Central Oregon and driving westward across the Cascades to get home, you'll find things here that should thrive in your climate zones too. A seasonal nursery stand, it is located next to the Richard's Produce in a lot on the cusp of Sister's downtown. (Marker: Look for the Space Age Fuel gas station on the main drag of W. Cascade Avenue just as you enter Sisters coming from the West or just before you exit Sisters coming from the East and you'll find C&C in the lot behind that gas station.) Plants can be purchased outside of seasonal nursery stand time frames from Chad and Cathy. They also provide landscape maintenance services. Many of the plants sold at the nursery stand, like beautiful catmint, are deer resistant. But as Cathy points out, the only thing deer are sure not to eat are rocks. Some of the plants that we oohed and ahhed over like incredible white hydrangeas grown as standards, we couldn't plant in our yard due to the fact they are candy for the deer that visit our garden regularly. But sure was fun to admire them. If you live where you do not have deer, we'd say go buy these NOW! :-) A picture is worth a thousand words, goes the old saw, so I took several. We learned that C&C provides pot planting services. That seems a big deal here in Central Oregon, in particular in the part of Bend in which we live, to have others plant perennial garden pots for you. We enjoy doing our own, but if you like to have the pros do it for you, we'd definitely check in with Chad and Cathy as the pots they had on display there were wonderfully composed. In fact, so well done we're thinking about turning over a couple of pots to them next year! A couple of tips before you go: 1) Prices seem very reasonable. 2)Cash or check only, no credit cards. 3) Level lot but gravel and wood chips may make it tough to navigate for shoppers who use wheelchairs.

We have bought many trees (Colorado Blue Spruce & Swedish Aspen) and plants from here and have always been satisfied with the quality of them. Depending on the time of the year you never know what you might fine. We have found that we went in thinking we wanted a certain kind of plant/tree only to find that there were better choices to be had. The place is quite large so bring your rubber boots so you won't get muddy exploring the place.
