I don't have enough time to fully detail my experience with Newport Landscaping, but I can confidently say I would never give this company another penny. I hired them for roughly $100,000 worth of residential landscaping work (no hardscaping, just grass, mulch and planting), and the results were extremely disappointing -- both in workmanship and customer service. The experience deteriorated to the point where I had to threaten legal action and report them to the Oregon CCB for breach of contract before anyone took my concerns seriously. A few highlights from the experience: * The project manager showed up to my property multiple times smelling strongly of alcohol -- on the rare occasions he actually came to the job site. * The professionally designed landscaping plan we paid for and provided to Newport was not followed. Major deviations were made without approval, which created unnecessary issues throughout the project. * Their estimate severely underbid the amount of mulch required for the property -- by more than 40 yards. This caused delays, frustration, and obvious concerns about the competence of the planning process. * Coordination between Newport Landscaping and Thompson Pump & Irrigation was terrible. I essentially had to act as the general contractor myself just to get the irrigation pond functioning properly, and it took months to resolve. * Jana, who I believe is an administrative manager, initially came to the property, listened to concerns, and assured me they would make things right. Unfortunately, nothing meaningful happened until I began threatening legal action and filing complaints with the CCB. There's far more I could say, but the bottom line is this: this company appears far too large and disorganized for the level of professionalism they advertise. Even some of their own employees openly complained about the company and management while on-site, which frankly is embarrassing. Read the 1-star reviews carefully. You may get lucky and have a good experience, but you may also end up deeply regretting your decision like I did. read more

We were looking for a creative landscaping design company who would do quality work. We were a bit stuck on the changes we wanted and met with Nathan to see what he could come up with. He brought back a design that was really creative that gave our front entry way a totally different and welcome look. David was our site coordinator who worked with his foreman, Fernando, and his crew Chris and Luis. These guys are skilled, work hard and get the job done. They put in pavers, a pathway, updated our plants and figured out how to tie in to an unmapped 35 year old irrigation system. They kept the site clean and completed a very big project in about two weeks. David was in frequent contact with us on pricing, job progress, and provided a lot of good support for both his crew and us as owners. We are more then pleased with their work. read more

I can't speak highly enough of this co. We just bought a second home here, initially as an investment property before realizing we loved Bend and wanted to stay here as often as possible, and we reached out to Newport Ave to help spruce up the yard. I didn't realize how much potential the yard had! I thought we would just have a nice landscaped hillside, but we ended up with a really nice paver patio that they built by installing a retaining wall, and they put boulders and gravel around it to make it look very natural and unassuming. I think that's my highest praise, they created a really cool space without making it look gaudy or ostentatious. I'm going to add pictures once the snow melts and I can show off the patio. I started out with a backyard full of weeds and lots of dirt that the dogs would bring into the house. I wasn't sure what to do with the yard. I had an appointment with this company and they came up with a great idea of installing pavers. When the project manager showed up he suggested putting very large rocks along the fence. In only 7 days the installers had my yard completely done. It looks amazing! Plus the dogs love playing in the kiddie pool. I love my yard. Next step is to put planters and flowers. Nathan was the person who sold the contract, such a lost soul. I requested to connect with his manager, turns out it was Jana, who absolutely has no work ethic, extremely rude and unprofessional very accusatory and harass you right and left. Never get back to my messages and requests to talk to "a manager" for 4 weeks until after there is a disaster after disaster in our backyard. They cut our electric wires in our backyard and left it open (hot wires) on the ground for 3 weeks. We have children and pets in the house. And they laughed about it saying it is only low voltage it would just jolt you but it would not kill you. They turned off our irrigation for 3 weeks in July heat. When we realized our plants were in distress we started watering by hand until they came back and restore the irrigation but did it wrong so they had to keep coming back keep correcting one thing destroying another and expecting us to pay for the hours they are working, and keep harassing. There are three different contractors were involved. Our first contractor had to finish his part so Newport Ave Landscaping would start its part. But while I was not home NAL already came and dig out the area and charged my credit card immediately without even finishing the job. No invoice no heads up. I was only agreed and prepared for the deposit. But after the deposit, they immediately charged me for a job they did not even finished. After working for a month with absolute nightmare, they said they did not even start their project and they never assigned us a project manager. No one knows who is our project manager. Top down no respect to people's property, no work ethics, extremely rude, they bark first then they say they will fix it, then they deny it and call us names. Then Jana sends apology email how they will fix it and restart over with a better attitude. Then she denies her crew's shortcoming because there was no one to supervise the crew to start with. Nathan admits they have no crew to support this type of project but they took the job anyway. They use their personal phones which we did not know and when we text them they yell at us their work is not their life we should not text them. Part of my backyard plants are dead so now we have to replace those besides has to hire another company to fix the war zone. After first contractor finish his part successfully, NAL was to start working with our irrigation system, they ruined it, they keep coming back keep trying to fix it how it should have been in first place. They keep charging us more and more for their own mistakes, wasting their own time and our time. While contractor 3 is still waiting to start but Newport Ave Landscaping seems to not finish their part for weeks. They keep sending random people who has no clue about the project or expertise. They over promised and under deliver. The girl who prepare the project did a good job, but the rest of the team could not deliver the rest. Top down rude, unprofessional management who hate their job but they have no choice they have to work but definitely it shows in every way how they talk to you with hate and rage. Then they harass you and actually they enjoy doing it even in the middle of the night with a nasty text messages to try to muck you. Few days of project turned to a weeks of long nightmare. Run run run, don't every refer this company to any one, don't ever work with them. Find yourself another company who is honest who loves to work with people and who will deliver the services at the professional level. Run run run from Newport Ave Landscaping. I wish there is minus 5 million star rating but even one is too many for this company as it requires to least one star to post this I read some of their low rate reviews. I completely agree with others' bad experiences. I read management's responses to those low reviews, they have a very standoffish approach as how they handle customer service issues. Hired Newport without even getting a bid from anyone else. Worst experience with landscapers ever!! Liked the design they did for us and from that point on everything went downhill. Said they could complete the job in three days-it took a month! Did not follow the design and planted plants in places other than where the plan indicated. Also substituted plants without even telling us. On top of everything else, the sprinklers were not programmed right and it took 4 trips for them to fix it. In the meantime, some plants were drowning while others were dry as bones. They did virtually everything wrong and took forever to do it. We had Newport Landscaping put in a patio and a gas fireplace in the backyard. Throughout the project, they have been timely, informative and polite. In the process, we asked them to look at some issues in the front yard. They were able to do a small amount of work in the front yard too, and provided guidance on the changes we requested. It is a bit of a wait to get from initial inquiry to the start of the job, but they let us know of the wait. I would highly recommend their services, and we plan to use them when we re-do the front patio. read more

Enjoyed working with Christine, Nick & Chris from design to implementation. We have two huge water swales (eyesores) that needed to be incorporated in the design along with a slight slope in the backyard ...it now all blends perfectly! I was a little concerned as we ended up being out of town during the install, but Chris was great and sent pics/communicated via text constantly. I hate to do this because Newport Ave. Landscaping was recommended to me by one of my most trusted local vendors. I found them to be overpriced, disorganized and poor communicators. They were also disrespectful of our home, tracking mud into the house when working on the interior sprinkler console. Both times they came to the house, they were in a hurry and just seemed irritated by efforts at discussion or questions about the irrigation issues. We had them come help with a existing sprinkler system. The appointment setting didn't come easy, but they did a pricey (and turns out incomplete) initial repair. About a month later, there was another issue. They came out and repaired that issue, and upgraded all the heads on the sprinklers in the lawn, ignoring the irrigation in the beds. I scheduled a follow up on Tuesday to deal with the beds on Friday, explaining to Stacy that they had not completed service and I expected them to come finish the job. I received a voicemail an hour before the Friday appointment saying I would be charged for the visit. I promptly called back and got voicemail. No return call and no show. I do not recommend them. I received a call after I posted a one star review. Shane offered to come back out to make this right so I added back one star. Unfortunately, it just felt like too little too late. read more

If it were possible to give zero stars, I would. I hired Newport Ave last December to design my backyard with plants and irrigation to be installed in May. They had previously done my parents' back and front yards. Their price was higher than others but because they had done a good job at my parents' several years prior, I went with them. What a mistake. I described that I wanted an irrigation system that would water everything in the yard without my having to supplement with hand watering. They said installation of a sprinkler system (they did not recommend drip), thyme lawn, 4 trees and 30+ small plants would take 3 days total. I questioned this, as it seemed completely implausible, but I was assured that it would be done. I signed a contract 6 months ahead of time so that I could be certain to get on the schedule and get the plants in the plan that Newport designed. When the time came, Newport was paid on schedule and as planned, but 2 days before the scheduled start date, Newport told me that they couldn't possibly start on time (as if this was obvious, even though the contract had been signed months earlier) and when they DID start the job, there was no foreperson on site to oversee the work. They sent two laborers with no heavy equipment, and missed so many deadlines I lost count. The people who did the work worked incredibly hard and were very nice, but the people "in charge" at Newport were rude and seemingly incompetent and no one seemed to communicate with one another and certainly not with me. It took over a month for the job to be "completed." When the plants finally went in weeks late, and with no foreperson or designer on site, the plants were just put in wherever, with the laborers guessing where they should go according to a blueprint, with no information regarding shade requirements, etc. Sprinkler pipes were broken FOUR times during planting. The sprinkler system doesn't function as promised (some areas get too much water, some too little), plants which were promised never arrived, and many plants are the wrong type, color, etc.--even one of the trees is the wrong kind! Several plants were killed by their team during installation by running over them with wheelbarrows, burying them under mulch or trampling them underfoot, and the customer service was jaw-droppingly poor. I hired a landscaping company because I don't have the design skills to decide where plants should be placed for best aesthetic effect, nor do I have encyclopedic knowledge of various plants' light and water needs, and certainly can't design an irrigation system. Newport Ave Landscaping created a lovely design but utterly failed to implement it. Additionally, their irrigation plan makes no sense. Their irrigation team as much as said, upon coming out to try to fix my sprinkler system, that sprinklers alone would never suffice. Additionally, an expert needed to be present for planting. I was told repeatedly that Newport Ave simply has too much work, as if this is an excuse for appalling customer service and having no pride in one's work. The answer, then, is people giving them less business. I was blatantly lied to repeatedly about what a plant was, or when something would happen, and then when the truth materialized, Newport took no responsibility and quite clearly didn't care at all. This was a $10,000 job, which I suppose isn't huge as landscaping goes, but $10,000 is something to me, and no matter the size of the job, any business (any person!) should treat another person with kindness and respect, and Newport Ave chose not to. I would NEVER use this company again, and would urge you to spend your money elsewhere. Avoid the stress of dealing with this company. read more
