My most recent meal started with a unique appetizer, chicken tikka wrapped around minced lamb. The flavors worked great together and it was much more interesting than your typical Tandoori. I then had the lamb shank as a main and it was also fantastic, fall off the bone tender, lots of flavor and the right amount of spice. We were starting to think fate didn't want us trying this national dish) and finally was able to get it here. Being from the US, we expected the CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA to be savory but theirs was sweet... I could taste coconut cream from it. I wasn't a fan unfortunately. The MANGO LASSI was more savory than creamy. I prefer mine super sweet but my husband enjoyed it. Where this place shines is their HYDERABAD LAMB SHANK. We found it from the chefs special and it was honestly the best lamb we have ever had. It was falling off the bone tender and the sauce was savory and delicious. Pair it with some of their rice or, even better, their GARLIC NAAN, and you will have a satisfying meal that you'll be thinking about long after you finish your meal. They also gave us some after-dinner treats that I think may be chocolate but we were so full, it's still waiting to be eaten. The service was prompt and friendly. The music set you up in a great mood with some Indian music playing. If the person behind the till hadn't been listening to a sports game on his phone for part of our meal, it would have been ideal but oh well. It wasn't very loud but I just happened to be sitting almost right in front of him so my ears couldn't tune it out. Overall, I would come back just for that lamb and to try other dishes on their chef specialty menu... butter chicken, perhaps? More lamb for sure. The menu is varied, but as an Indian food virgin, I played it safe with Chicken Tikka Masala (to this day, it is the best I have ever tasted). I also had a portion of Kashmiri rice (pilau with sultanas and almonds in it) and garlic naan bread, and both were sensational. The staff were super friendly, and the place was very clean. Food was prepared and delivered impressively fast; we were a group of 20-odd and were all served within 15 minutes. They also do some nice desserts; I had ice cream with honey. I couldn't recommend this place enough, it's only a shame I am nowhere near Hayling Island or I'd make regular visits there, but it's a MUST for anyone going to or living on Hayling Island.

The chicken caldin is by far the greatest curry I have ever had; its creaminess is beautifully offset by the heat of several green chilies within the dish, making it the most perfectly balanced, flavourful curry I have ever had. The onion bhajis are crisp on the outside and soft in the middle, nothing is greasy, the meat is fresh and delicious, whether eating in or taking away the waiting time is never unreasonable. I did end up ordering the Tandoori chicken which I enjoyed immensely. I'm okay with some spice, but I don't like burning my mouth apart and this version of Tandoori was a good mix for my weak palette! My only advice if the owner is reading this... the restrooms (or I guess water closets as they say there?) are pretty gross. The floor was sticky and it didn't feel clean. The menu choice is very wide, a weakness of most middling curry houses. There is the standard gamut of Indian classics tailored to the takeaway crowd and a surprisingly large selection of chef specialities. My unmemorable encounter with one of these (I forget which) was disappointing. My girlfriend had a lot more luck with a sizzling clay oven cooked chop of lamb. This is not a bad restaurant, if it were a little cheaper I would give it three stars. As a takeaway it will probably serve you quite adequately. It's quite possibly even the best in Winchester.
