I'm staying at the Hilton London Canary Wharf and this place is literally less than a block away. The food was fantastic, and the service was even better. The manager was very friendly, but my water, John, made my experience top notch! He was personable and had great recommendations for food. I ate so much I cannot walk! Staying in the Hilton round the corner, it was raining heavily so I ran round to this place...to find colleagues of my partner already there, so I joined them They seemed happy with their meal...I ordered my favourite: chicken jalfrezi, aloo gobi, plain paratha and a large rouge The setting is nice and even with a reasonable number off people it wasn't noisy and we could actually hear our conversation. Nice restaurant with an open arrangement. Staff was very friendly and attentive, in fact, I needed to be on the phone and could see them from the corner of my eye paying attention to signs of me needing help. I felt rude for preventing them from interacting with me, but didn't have a choice, and appreciate their patience. Ordered chilli chicken and samosas, and ended up ordering a crisp that was pushed on to me that I really didn't realize I was paying for. The samosa was delicious, and had very good texture. I also liked some of the spices and thick tomatoey texture of the chili chicken, but I felt like it needed more flavor, it was a bit bland. For someone who doesn't like to add salt to my meal, that means I didn't enjoy it much. The presentation of the food was pleasant and that coupled with the service makes me want to go back to try something else. Bengal Quay is a wonderful surprise right next to the Hilton Canary Wharf Hotel. While staying at the Hilton we asked the concierge for a great Indian restaurant. He pointed us to one about a mile away so of course, we pulled out our Yelp App (why don't we always go here first???). Yelpers helped us find this delicious treat (thank you again fellow Yelpers) which was literally the next building over from the hotel. It is a bit hidden, but if you follow the directions on the app you'll easily locate this beautiful and delicious spot. If you're in the area and don't want to leave your room they offer delivery as well. We spotted the driver on a scooter loading up for a delivery who pointed us to the restaurant (around the corner from the front of the building and up a half a flight of stairs). We ordered Chicken Bhuna and Lamb Tikka along with Sag Aloo (spiced potatoes with spinach), and of course Popadoms. Everything was delicious, quite "spot on". I can't wait to go back. I added photos to share what the dishes look like to show the food and layout. They have a full bar in case you want a fancy cocktail. I enjoyed the extra touches of beautiful linens and their logo imprinted on the plates. The twinkle lights for the holidays added the perfect touch. Five-star vibe without the five-star price. (I added menu photos as well so you can take a look and see if it matches your budget). This spot is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area and are craving Indian Food. I would give them 5 stars but the service was a little slow when we wanted to pay and leave. We asked for the bill and after a long wait we had to get up and ask for it again. They told us they would bring it to our table but we had been waiting so long we needed to push for it "now". We have been at Bengal Quay about 8 times. It is honest food, the staff is friendly and helpful describing how the dishes really are. It is easy to find and the prices are quite fair. I visited Bengal Quay during a business trip to London. I was staying at the Hilton and wanted to get Indian food while in London but was short on time. I chose Bengal Quay based on fellow Yelper reviews. (Thank you!) I found the service formal but good and appropriately attentive. I was a woman traveling by myself so I never know if that affects how I'm served. The food was delicious. As a resident of New Jersey and having eaten Indian in the best Indian spots in NJ and New York City as well as having traveled to India, I found the dishes flavorful and authentic. I had the vegetable samosas and the butter chicken with the garlic naan. Unlike another reviewer, I did not find the naan too oily. The butter chicken was beautifully seasoned. Delightfully sweet with a slightly spicy finish. I would definitely go here again if I were to stay in Canary Wharf. Very convenient and good value and quality. read more

Me & the wife came to London for the weekend, stayed at the Hilton hotel at Canary Wharf, we wanted to go somewhere nice to eat & was recommend to try Bengal Quay by 1 of the staff at the hotel. It's few minutes walk from the hotel but hidden, good location. 1st impression was nice restaurant, spacious, nice decor, more importantly welcoming. We got a table by the window, nice round table, got the menu. I was actually impressed with the menu coz its simple but exciting dishes, dishes I've never heard of like Karaki Lamb or the Lamb Sweta. We ordered our food & Drinks, git to admit it wasn't long till our starter arrived, followed by the main meal. Ordered the Imli Scallops, Mixed Starter, Karaki Lamb, Chicken Tikka, Sea bass dish, Til Baigan, Dhall Tarka, Chilli Nan, Peshwari Nan & Bengal Rice. I must say their house special red sauce is amazing, very different, never had anything like it before. So glad we came here, this was well worth it, food was excellent, service is brilliant, staff are great, nice & friendly, they even made an effort to make a short conversation, like they want to get to know their customers, which is great, after we asked for the bill, they offered us a round of drinks from the management, which was nice. Over all I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone, good price, great food, friendly staff & good atmosphere. 10/10 Definitely return here when I'm in London next time. read more

7 of us went there and decided to try a bunch of dishes. Firstly, they had Tiger Beer (really good beer from singapore) and kingfisher, of course. We decided to try a bunch of different dishes and share them. The chicken tikka and lamb tikka were good, not too much meat, but lots of sauce. We also tried the butter chicken, which was slightly sweet. The tiger prawns were delicious, and the fish was soft. My only problem is that the sauces were too heavy. Way too heavy. The cheese naan was delicious, kinda oily though. The tandoori rotti was a lighter version if you're looking not to feel too full. They served thin slices of chocolate for desert. I needed good Indian food in the worst way and without all the BS of joints found on Brick Lane and Piccadilly Circus... Enter Bengal Quay right next door to my Hilton in South Quay! So I walk in with my take-away hit list of special Indian fried rice, dal tarka, mix biryani, and butter chicken. 2 nice greeted me and answered a few questions. In the Chef's Recommendations, they had something called Karaki Lamb - the Chef's secret recipe and once flown to Beverly Hills at the request of Playboy owner Hugh Hefner. So I had to learn more and know if it was better than butter chicken. In a about a tikala masala second, the 2 mates said heck yeah! So off I go to my room with a 20% off for take-away. Set up my feast with the NCAA on,,, Wow everything was deeeeliiiiish! The dal was outstanding and full of depth. The fried rice blows away anything in Chinatown. The biryani was a crowd pleaser. It's not awful, but leaves a lot to be desired. Their lamb tikka was overcooked and super chewy, and the sag paneer was 90% cream. On the other hand, another dish that I'd never heard of before, chicken xacuti, was pretty good. It was similar to vindaloo, but less spicy and with coconut shavings, which was an interesting twist. I'm guessing this place caters to people staying in all the corporate apartments around South Quay, and since there's not much else around here I'll probably be forced to go here a lot over the next five weeks. read more

I give this place 4 stars for two reasons. First, if you're in the Hilton you can't beat the proximity. The second is the high level of service and attention to each patron. That being said the food is only average. The lamb biryani was very good, although the vegetable curry that came with it used frozen vegetables. It's January in the UK, so perhaps that is not unexpected. The pappadums were good, and the sauces with them were average but tasty. The samosa sadly didn't use a real dough and the tea was....just black tea, so not the chai were used to at friends homes. Give it a try. Nothing was terrible but very disappointing. Main ingredient seemed to be sugar in many of the sauces and dishes. Mediocre at best. Strip mall location with nothing else around it almost knocks it down to a 2 star but they were polite and technically nothing wrong with the food so leaving this as a very average 3 star rating. Definitely don't jump in a cab and go out of your way as a destination like we made the mistake of doing based upon a concierge recommendation that we are convinced was in exchange for a kickback. read more

I was traveling to London on business and like several other reviewers was staying next door at the Hilton. The food and service were outstanding. I can't recall the chicken dish I had but it was spicy as advertised and delicious. The naan was also delicious as was the saag paneer. The service was both friendly and efficient. I will absolutely be back next time I'm in London! read more
