Roka is a very good japanese restaurant. Its a modern izakaya style of japanese food. But i just honestly hate the hype for this restaurant. The overhyping it make it worse and dont compare it with other restaurants. Its honestly a very good restaurant on its own. It got its own style. I love how fancy and amazing the dessert that i had. It was worth every penny that i spent for 6 people for the dessert. Bear in mind the portion is a little bit small so you wanna order more. Dont miss the dessert though. Roka is very recommended. Cheers! I have always wondered there are so many japanese restaurants named roka though its honestly very cliche and not creative. There is also popular roka in the us. But all of the rokas that i went to worth every penny.

Excellent brunch, would recommend for big groups or if you haven't seen your friend for a while, nice place to catch up! Great experience.

Enjoyed our dinner, but it was short of five stars for me. The food was overall solid, but lacked differentiation. We ordered an assortment of sushi, chicken wings and gyoza to start, then I had a rice dish for main. Whilst all was reasonably good, the best part really were the desserts. The two that we ordered to share were phenomenal and honestly, I would go back primarily for the desserts. Service was prompt, though I thought our waiter was rather curt and rough at times. All other servers were kind enough. Ambience was classy and spacious. Great for either corporate or social events. However, the noise level at times were too high. The restaurant overall felt quite crowded at peak times as well.

Roka is a fairly new location for the already established Charlotte St. restaurant of the same name. My man works in Canary Wharf and I have been anxious to try all of these fancy restaurant where the bankers and execs. go to wine and dine their clients. I figured it had to be pretty good and slightly over the top. Roka did not disappoint. The food was all amazingly fresh. We started our meal with the spicy edamame which was very good but messy to eat. My pristine white napkin looked like a crime scene by the time I was finished...slightly embarrassing. Our sashimi and sushi roll were AMAZING! I highly recommend the spicy Maguro No Pirikara (spicy tuna and avocado with a Jalapeno mayonnaise). I come from the land of Sushi Samba and Tomo sushi in New York (THE BEST THERE IS IF YOU ARE EVER THERE....Thompson Street) and, although this was a fancier take on sushi, the roll was amazing. Next up was the rock shrimp and dumplings which were also very good. Our main course was Kankoku Fu Kohitsuji (Lamb Cutlets with Korean Spices). This might be the best Japanese entree I have ever had and I highly recommend it...see my photos. Finally, for dessert, I had the Creme Brulee which was good...not the best I have ever had and I would recommend what my man had instead...the Dark Chocolate and Maccha pudding. It was so rich...delish!!!! Overall, if you want a nice meal out and fancy Japanese...this is a good recommendation. This restaurant reminded me of the spots I used to hit up in New York. I will definitely go back ;)!

This is the place to go for a unique experience of the best of what Japan has to offer in terms of food. From great sushi and sashimi, to delicious scallops, and lamb cops and Kobe beef to die for. Tips: go for one of the set menus to try a range of great food. Highly recommended!

The tonkotsu pork broth was very creamy, rich, and well-seasoned, and the firm noodles offered a very good taste as I ate them together with all the ingredients. The "water" taste was relatively minimal. The pork belly was a bit overcooked and falling apart, by which time I realized there was a bit less meat than I had anticipated but more of the fatty skin part. I just think the broth was a big plus and could make me comfortably say that the ramen I had was great. I know making the tare and the broth takes a long time so while I am not sure Ippudo is exactly following that process, I do see efforts in trying. Both the chicken kara-age and the takoyaki tasted like what they were supposed to taste like, with the oroshi ponzu sauce providing the chicken with a bit of new flavor on top of the already flavorful chicken. The chicken was juicy, too! Juice was flowing out of the breading as I took a bite. The takoyaki had the standard amount of octopus, which was a tiny bit. The matcha brownie was not bad, but lacked matcha flavor and was a bit too hard. It took me a bit to cut it open with my fork which I normally wouldn't be expecting from brownies. Based on the fact that it was cold, I thought it might have been frozen previously. It was well-decorated, but the fact that it was frozen most likely affected how hard it was, along with how less tasteful it was. It was still sweet, but like I mentioned previously, lacked matcha flavor. Another thing I noticed was that the service was slow. It took us a while to get out food. And despite me saying to bring the dessert along with everything else, they still brought out the dessert towards the very end and when we inquired about it, said that they were waiting on us to ask to bring the dessert. Just want to bring it up as a miscommunication instance, but totally not a big deal and it didn't impact my experience negatively at all.

However, I really enjoyed my ramen at this particular location. I had the modern tonkatsu ramen and it was both rich and flavorful without being too heavy. The chasu was tender and delicious. And, the samurai ginjo sake really made the rest of the evening pass by nicely. Service was fine.

'Asta' (as I like to simply call it) - I have no idea of the '3' moniker, or indeed where the first…read moretwo went - is as genuine a Japanese canteen as you'll find in London. I was lucky enough to, along with a colleague, be taken here on several occasions for a quick lunch by a client (indicative of how welcoming the Japanese are!) By 'genuine' I mean no dumbed-down menus, no super-slick interiors to detract from potentially average food, and no gimmicks of any kind. The place is staffed and run by Japanese nationals as any self-respecting Japanese restaurant should be - and perhaps more importantly, frequented by them regularly, too. Service is smiling and attentive and no more that it needs to be. The food is inexpensive (~£6-8 for a bento, £7-11 for ramen, udon or donburi) and so tasty. On my most recent trip I had beef ramen with tan tan (sesame paste) soup base, and my brother had salmon teriyaki on brown rice. Both dishes had generous proportions of meat/fish, and the donburi came with a side salad and pickles. The unagi (eel) is also lovely, and the place does an extensive line in pick-your-soup base noodle bowl dishes where you have the option of shoyu, miso, and sesame as mentioned above, among others. I can't speak for the takeaway bento, but they looked pretty solid and of a decent quality. Drinks come in the familiar (Coke etc) and the more, um, 'traditional' - aloe vera juice, Pocari, cold bottled green and black teas and others. This place is rather hidden away on the fringes of the City, behind Aldgate station on the Petticoat Lane side. In many ways it's a great location as it's very much a local haunt, and in others a little frustrating as even if you're working in the City it can be a fair walk to get there and back! My advice would also be to get there early (between midday and half-past) to ensure a seat, as well as before some of the more popular items on the menu disappear. In brief summary, I couldn't really recommend this place enough if you're in the area. You'll get multi-kudos from any friends Nippon friends (or appreciators of their incredible cuisine) and have a lunch to beat the hell out of an uninspired sandwich / soft-drink combo whilst spending a similarly scant amount of your hard-earned cash. As your fellow diners would say: "itedakimas!"
