I have used many tutors in the past. Chemistry tutors, GMAT test preparation tutors, Calculus…read moretutors, you name it. Throughout my college career I have tried it all and nothing came close to my experience with Tutor Me LA. They are kind, caring, and the tutors are excellent. I even referred Tutor Me LA to my niece who increased 200 points on her SAT! The educational director WORKS WITH YOU and that is why I love them. It was far more than finding me a tutor, but they really got to know me and went to great lengths to ensure I did well and that is something that is rare and deserves to be appreciated. Thank you Tutor Me LA for your help, students like myself truly need your service and you all are doing a great job at ensuring that quality is not sacrificed. Shout out to Melissa, Scott, and Jared for always putting up with me and my last minute request and emails asking questions off the clock. You are all absolutely amazing! Another a great experience!

Don't believe all of the 5 stars! They say they know all the admissions directors at the top…read moreschools and will recommend your child...but if you write a negative review your child will be blacklisted. Another person just wrote me privately to say: "I saw your review for TutorMeLA. I pretty much had the same exact experience, and I was wondering what happened after you had posted your review? Did they reach out again, did they threaten you? I was just wondering if there is any way that we can take this complaint to another place because it's truly not right what these guys are doing. The threats are scary and I honestly believe they should be stopped."

Liliana is the best Spanish teacher I've ever had…read more I came to Liliana after working with a previous Spanish teacher for about 1.5 years. My previous teacher failed me in many ways, but the biggest way was the fact that after 1.5 years of intensive classes and studying (which I had to hugely supplement on my own) I still couldn't speak Spanish. I could translate it, in reading and writing, but I couldn't conversate in it (not unless I'd created scripts and memorized them to make them second nature). I couldn't actually COMMUNICATE in it. Which is exactly why I started Spanish classes in the first place! Among many other things, my previous teacher's perfectionism got in the way of how one naturally and completely learns a new language - which Liliana rectified and I will go into more detail later. Here are the bits of pure gold one gets when working with Liliana (please note: I was very well versed in Spanish grammar and vocabulary before I started with her - I was not starting from scratch): 1. Omg, she's so much fun. She creates characters and tells stories and sings songs and helps you play in Spanish. She brings Spanish off of the pages of the books and homework of your average Spanish teacher and she turns it into this vibrant, fun and memorable experiences one would normally get when living abroad. 2. She focuses on verbs. Verbs are the backbone of any language and she helps you figure out shorts cuts when conjugating new moods and tenses you may have not learned yet. ALSO, if you are traveling and simply use the infinitive of the verb you don't know conjugations for, native Spanish speakers will still be able to understand you! 3. Immersion. This is my ultimate favorite part of Liliana's classes. After the first class or two (and possibly depending on the level you are at when you come in) she speaks to you the entire time in Spanish. It's full immersion. You will be taping each lesson with her and listening to it in between each class and it's pure gold and here's why: she's using the language as it's actually spoken and how it will be spoken to you! You can hear how she uses the verbs and their tenses and moods, how she structures her sentences and her thoughts, and the biggest one: getting comfortable hearing yourself as: tú or usted or ustedes - this is huge purely based on the fact that if you're learning the language from books and homework, you're missing the conversationally reciprocal aspect of the language (and you're almost only thinking in yo.) Liliana has an extensive background in how people learn languages (she used to teach for many years in a top university in Argentina!) and she really makes learning Spanish a fun and successful experience. In about 1.5 months she helped me rewire my Spanish brain to think differently and feel differently about the language and improved my speaking ability and comfort 100%! I can't wait to keep working with her and to see where I'll be in a full years time!

I've been taking lessons with Liliana for about 7 months and I couldn't ask for a better teacher! I…read morethink it's important to learn from a Spanish teacher that is from a Spanish speaking country... it creates a more in depth experience of the culture and mannerisms. Liliana has a very balanced approach to teaching. She makes it a lot of fun while maintaining seriousness and focus. Most importantly she is getting me comfortable SPEAKING Spanish. Liliana is a genuine teacher and I would highly recommend her.

I had the pleasure of working with Stuart Park on both GMAT prep and MBA applications. While he was…read moreincredibly helpful on both fronts from a technical standpoint, what truly shined was his upbeat and encouraging attitude and demeanor during a tedious and stressful process. If you feel like you're missing something on one or both of these fronts, he is the consultant that will help you find and fill any and all gaps you might have. GMAT Prep - I had previously gone through the full Manhattan Prep Interact course. This was a nice introduction to the GMAT as a whole and a good launching point. However, their specific test-taking strategies didn't really resonate with me and I found myself plateauing in the mid-600s after three months of studying. Stuart took the time in our first session to really understand how had I approached the numerous practice tests and the live exam that I had already taken. I truly felt that he tailored the subsequent sessions to the key components that I needed to focus on to take my score to the next level. His previous experience working for Veritas as well as his research into the various test prep programs provided a truly aggregated and "best of all worlds" perspective that helped me to improve my score to a 730 (Q48/V42). More importantly, I found myself looking forward to working with him to glean new insights with direct correlation to success on a mentally-challenging exam. Beyond his technical expertise, he is truly a fantastic teacher. MBA Application - Stuart also helped to guide me through the MBA application process. Initially we met just to go over my goals, target schools, and approach to the application. While Stuart did not necessarily have familiarity with my desired profession (albeit it is not one of the more common paths in B-school), this actually worked to my advantage. He brought the perspective of someone from Adcomm who might not also understand my background. He asked leading questions to help me see my profile from the eyes of someone who doesn't know the context and jargon of my industry. Stuart not only helped me to shape my essays, but also offered numerous suggestions and gave lots of feedback on paring my statements down below the maximum word limit. While my friends and family would often provide general feedback or even specific thoughts on what they felt my essays were missing, Stuart took the next step to actually help me re-write the essays to bring the ideas to life. I also worked with Stuart on interview prep. It was great to talk to someone who lives and breathes this process to not only challenge me to think critically about my responses, but also to offer encouragement and support of my ideas and achievements. I truly believe that short of talking with the various schools' Adcomms directly, Stuart is one of the best MBA application resources out there.

Prior to working with Stuart, I had a score of 680, using the Manhattan GMAT self study program. I felt like I hit a road block studying on my own. Stuart seemed like a good choice given his tenured experience tutoring under other name brand test prep firms. Stuart was extremely helpful by clearly explaining the nuances of harder GMAT questions and concepts. He also offered numerous test taking tips, which helped me manage the pacing of my exam. Additionally, I used Stuart's consulting services for my USC Marshall application. I wanted another pair of eyes to review my essay and resume. He offered several very thoughtful suggestions and comments, which improved my application and helped me get an interview with the school. I am happy to say that I was accepted USC Marshall Full Time MBA program with a full tuition scholarship! I could not have done it without Stuart's help.

After finding out what was causing him issues we were referred to Andrea Chernin. They hit it off immediately. He never dreaded going to see her. He started to improve almost immediately. They saw each other weekly for many years. While he struggled in elementary school, he improved beyond our wildest imagination in both middle and high school. His GPA in highly school was 4.3, with 5/4's in all his AP exams. While grades were important to him, and to us, his growth and self confidence were instrumental in achieving a higher degree of personal and educational success. He is now a sophomore at the University of Michigan. While his issues will be a life long challenge, Andrea has given him the tools to navigate life in a positive and productive manner. If your child needs a kind and caring person, who knows how to cajole, motivate and inspire, then Andrea is your person. She is amazing.

When she began working with Kim at Illuminate just after her Freshman year, her grades were low, but worse, her confidence had taken a hit and we struggled to come up with a strategy to unlock joy in learning. Flash forward: Our child has had multiple 4.0 semesters, was awarded "Most Improved Academics" in her class, and received multiple college admissions offers (and sig. scholarship awards.) Beyond the grades and achievement, our child has developed a love of learning, has navigated her Executive Functioning issues, and has a strategy for ongoing academic success. There are no words to describe how gratifying it is to see her growth and confidence as she heads to college. This would not have been possible without the team at Illuminate.
