The teachers are caring, intelligent, patient, and skilled at resolving conflicts between children. The Second Step anti-bullying program is implemented here as well, which I thought was great. There were plenty of arts and crafts to intrigue my daughter, as well as play time both in and out of doors. There are books and audio books to pique your child's interest in reading, and they also have a "lunch bunch" program you can join which helps introduce your child to eating lunch in a school atmosphere. I feel my daughter left Creative Arts with improved social skills, a higher level of confidence, and a definite love of art! I would highly recommend it.

I had high hopes for Pixie Hill Preschool. Their mission statement sounded great: "all children are…read morehonored for their unique gifts and are supported in developing at their own pace. Pixie Hill offers a joyous learning environment that emphasizes social and academic growth through developmentally appropriate play." My daughter, however, was tolerated for exactly 4 hours before it became clear she was not welcome there. She is 3, she is speech delayed and struggles with transitions and new environments, but she is sweet and friendly and communicative. I genuinely didn't think she would present a unique or insurmountably difficult problem for a facility claiming to "bridge the warmth of home and the excitement of the outside world" for 3-5 year olds. The first day was rough, I was called to pick up an hour into the 4 hour session, but, to be fair, it was my first time leaving her like that ever. On our next scheduled day, she made it 3 out of 4 hours and I was called again. I was optimistic about the improvement between day one and two, but Pixie Hill was not. I was told, point blank, that the only reason she's made it 3 hours was because they had randomly had one extra person on staff that specific day but wouldn't going forward (but, like, why?). Before the third day with Pixie Hill even started, I was told my daughter wouldn't be able to continue without a dedicated educational aide which she'd need to qualify for through the school district, because they wouldn't deal with her otherwise. Coincidentally, I have a number of close family and friends who have worked in (local) preschools before-- I ran this situation by each of them and EVERYONE said the same thing, "how are they possibly making such big judgments about a kid in a totally new environment based on such little time?" To clarify: my daughter is not aggressive or physically violent, she isn't destructive or anti-social or seriously handicapped in any way-- she just needs extra time to become comfortable in a new place and around new people. Yes, she is stubborn and requires extra coaxing to participate in certain activities, but again, nothing I believe to be unusual or inappropriate in a 3 year old. They were nice about it and gave me information for other facilities and resources. Then when I swung by to pick up her spare clothes, they handed me a letter which detailed the reasons why she was no longer able to continue with them, listed here: she didn't transition well with the class, didn't want to eat lunch with the group, and didn't wash her hands on request. The speed with which this facility shrugged their shoulders, assigned a label, and decided she wasn't worth their time is what upsets me the most. There was no effort whatsoever made to try to accommodate or to try to help her adjust, they just went straight to "gtfo". Their mission statement is obviously "feel good" babble they are not prepared to back up at all. All this being said, the facility is nice and conveniently located, super reasonably priced-- only problem is that if your kid isn't a pre-groomed, completely compliant and obedient TODDLER, you're S.o.L. cause they will tell you very quickly that they don't have the bandwidth for any kind of accomodations (that you haven't provided for them). I understand that this preschool has recently undergone a leadership change and a large structural change recently. I didn't realize that the stellar reviews on here are now all 5+ years old, so I figured I should post an honest update!

My kids specifically asked to keep being enrolled here because they enjoy mastering so many math concepts and being confident at school. My eldest used to struggle with math but she's now ahead of her grade level. My middle kid has more affinity for math and she's now learning 6th grade math at the age of 8 years old. Whether your kid is advanced in math or behind or anywhere in between, there really is tremendous value in having them attend Mathnasium. Big plus about the Snoqualmie center is that they usually have only 2 students per instructor, and the max is 3. Other centers cap it at 4 students which makes it much harder for your child to get enough learning done. Also, Mathnasium does not assign homework which my kids (and I) absolutely love. It was so important to me to find an environment that would encourage my child's confidence, independence, and happiness while gently teaching about the world and socialization. Wind Rose did exactly that. To this day my child points out things in the natural world that even I didn't know thanks to their time outside. I'm so grateful for the time we had here. I brought it to the attention of the staff and the first time the mom was present and did absolutely NOTHING! The second time she whipped her with a plastic snake and we left for the day. She ruins our experience every single week and no one does anything to discipline this child. The co op was supposed to be a fun learning experience for us and it has not been. I dread having to volunteer in the classroom. I thought my daughters safety was a bare minimum. All I asked for was an apology from the little girl so she would know what she did is not acceptable. Now I know why bullying is such a problem today. She didn't even apologize and was allowed back into the classroom. If you want to worry about your child's safety and not hear the teacher over all the disruptions then ShoreNorth is for you! Or if you are raising a bully and want to allow them to have the freedom to do whatever they want, then you found the place for you. I'm extremely disappointed and sad that my daughters safety is not a priority for them. Shame on them for not making a student apologize for physical violence. All they did was make excuses and try to be politically correct.

Why then am I writing this? Because first off, the place is pretty cool-- the school I mean. The toys and overall environment just beckons your kid to explore and play. Clay, painting, dress up, mats to jump on, two story "tree house", a sensory table filled with the shells of chocolate beans, etc... Next, and the main reason that I have taken the time to write this is-- that they refunded my first month's tuition when we pulled out. We had gone 2 or maybe 3 times (1-1.5 wks). So, although they would never advertise such a thing, they are open to you changing your mind and understand that this type of set up is not for every body. Kudos to them.

My children are in elementary school now, and I continue to see my decision to place my kids at Knowledge House to be an excellent one. My kids started kindergarten academically ahead of their peers, and having already developed the social skills necessary for elementary school. They could work well with others, treat each other and adults with respect, and solve problems peacefully. I see the influence of their education at Knowledge House sneaking out in all sorts of positive ways: they shake hands with people and are confident when sharing their ideas, they include others in their play and notice when someone is left out, they love to explore and learn new things, and they use many different ways to solve problems. To add to all of that, despite the fact that many of their former classmates at Knowledge House attend different elementary schools, the kids still play together at playdates and we still talk with our former Knowledge House families. Mark and Valerie make this preschool a place for children to grow and learn at their own pace, and where children develop a sense of community and self-confidence.
