Bennetts has been around a few years now, and it deserves to be. I really like a good cafe/restaurant and it's even better if it's in an area that you can combine a nice brunch or lunch with a mooch round some shops. Bennetts is in just such an area: the Belmont Road has a lovely 'villagey' feel selection of shops, other cafes and a even a Tesco metro (although I hear whispers it may be going). Anyway, back to Bennetts. You know an eatery is good if you shamelessly pinch one of their recipes for your own , which is what I did a while ago with their French toast, bacon and maple syrup combo. The bacon? Crispy of course. The Maple Syrup? Not fake-y flavoured golden syrup. The bread? Diagonally sliced French baguette (and yes, the diagonal slicing is somehow important). My son and his mate now ask for 'proper French toast', laughing hysterically that we ever ate it made any other way. Bennetts has tea, coffee, smoothies, wine list, newspapers and it opens on Sundays - excuse me while I tick some more boxes on my 'what makes a good cafe' check list.

Despite pretending I am some sort of a health freak, nibbling on nuts and seeds, sometimes you just need a good fry, and you'll get one here. The cafe and food is homely, warming and reasonably priced, and variety is provided with frequently interesting specials. They also do a good line in sweet treats and the place is frequently busy with morning-coffee ladies putting the world to rights over scones. It isn't the most glamorous or hip hostelry on the Belmont, but if you just want an honest feed this is a good option.

Just had a gorgeous meal here, celebrating my mums birthday! This place feels relaxing and very family orientated. Staff are welcoming and very attentive..! I enjoyed my meal so much there wasn't a scrap left. (Flank steak!!) yum!!

    Bennetts delivery via Deliveroo

We ordered from Bennett's through the Deliveroo site after realising we couldn't be bothered cooking on Sunday night. The estimated delivery time was 45 minutes but it arrived in under half an hour. We shared a starter of prawn sushi which was a bit disappointing as it didn't have much flavour and the rice was a bit hard - it reminded me of the kind of pre-packed sushi you get in a supermarket that has been in the fridge for too long. For mains we got slow roasted pork belly with cider sauce and champ. The pork was absolutely delicious - melt in the mouth and full of flavour. The champ was a bit under seasoned and with the odd potato lump but the sauce made up for this. I thin the food suffered slightly from its travels as the sauce was in with the rest of the dish so it lost a bit of it's crispness but this is only to be expected from a delivery and we were just glad to have tasty food delivered. Kudos to Deliveroo for the great idea of a delivery service from alternate venues - I'm not a big fan of a lot of take-aways and its good to know you can get a decent meal brought to your door when you're feeling a bit lazy. I'd definitely use this service again or visit Bennetts restaurant.

The Decour is nice and it's a spacious location overall. In good weather, it's nice they have a large patio to accommodate, also. Nothing on the menu really called out to me once I was sitting down and reading through it. It was a quiet afternoon, there was one large party outdoors on the patio and two other tables with two people each. I saw two servers. I decided to order bread and one glass of wine and then move somewhere else for dinner. I enjoyed the breads and the wine. The olive tapenade was divine. The hop-infused whipped butter was interesting on the tastebuds initially, it grew on me. I think they might need more help. The large table was waiting to order for so long, one of the guests came inside to hunt down a server to place their order. Nobody ever checked on me once I had my plate of bread to see if I was enjoying it. I don't think I will return to this establishment.

I was lucky enough to have them cater my wedding and the food was outstanding. Nothing was too much trouble for them. We had a beautiful chicken dish with a sweet potato side, and soup also to start, and a trio of mini-desserts to finish. My husband and I were allowed our own meals, I had sushi followed by duck, and he had steak and chips (he is a straighforward kind of guy!) We had an evening with the two sets of in-laws one night when we got to sample a selection of meals in order to choose our wedding menu. I've never felt so spoiled in all my life. The atmosphere was very special, and we were treated like royalty - the chef came out for a chat with us afterwards which was very thoughtful. Food just kept coming, delicious and beautifully presented, which wasn't a suprise considering the chef had recently left a job in the Ivy to come and work here. For our evening buffet they served us gourmet hot dogs and burgers from an open barbeque outside, with carmelised onions and relish - people went back several times! There was a vegetarian that we forgot was coming to the evening do, and they sent down to the restaurant to get her a selection of cheeses and bread - and they never even billed us for it. Angela who looked after us throughout our wedding was cool, calm and collected and made everything run like clockwork. I would highly recommend The Pheasant if you are looking for caterers for an event, and even for a special night out, the restaurant itself is perfect.

We ordered a Hilden Belfast Blonde and a Small Axe Session IPA. It wasn't super busy so talked to the bartender about travel. As another bartender walked in we also discussed beer and cocktails. He told us that flavored Gins were popular. He let us smell a few of the popular ones since we are not big gin drinkers. Decided to stop in the ladies room before leaving and found an interesting group of old photos while there. We didn't try any food but loved the beer and cocktail options and really enjoyed talking to both the bartenders. Stop by and check it out.

I started with the fois gras and chicken liver, which was like velvet, following with the beef which was melt in your mouth. The highlight was the pudding which was textures of chocolate, worth the drive alone! Places like this don't tend to be cheap, and dinner for two could set you back £100 easily (but well worth it for special occasions). Make sure you book though, especially for Sunday lunch, as you don't want to get all the way out there to be told they're full, which has happened to us before. Slightly unconvinced at the location of such a restaurant (through an archway, in a door, up a windy staircase, in another door), all initial perceptions flew out the window when we were greated by our server and referred to a lovely little table for two in a bright, airy and somewhat lavish room. It was almost like stepping into Narnia...you would never have guessed that such a lovely restaurant lay at the top of those wooden stairs. Delightful! A very reasonably priced supper menu was thrust our way and both myself and my boyfriend opted for a main course and a dessert, which cost £16.50 each (1 course is £11.50, and 3 courses are £19.50). My Penne Primavera (minus the peas) was delicious, and my other half practically swallowed his Slow Roast Pork Belly whole, it was devoured so quickly! Dessert was inevitable, and the sundae did not disappoint. Vanilla ice-cream and chocolate brownie topped with hot chocolate sauce. Absolutely heavenly! Astonishingly good value too, particularly for such well-sized portions. Fontana has hit the nail on the head, so to speak. Simple food, but used in a creative way and cooked to perfection. The maître d could not have been nicer, treating us like old friends (who we'd never met) and we settled to make our choices. It was pretty quiet for a Friday and we were the youngest people there by far, but once the food came I didn't really notice anything else. The steak with peppered sauce, truffle mushroom and triple cooked chips was practically flawless and for pudding, the Chocolate Orange Nemesis Cake with raspberry sorbet was one of those dishes worth going back for. OMG. OK, at £70 for two for lunch it is pretty expensive, but by golly it was good. I'll be back...after pay day. ;-)
