About 18 months ago my family and I embarked on a journey to get our kitchen redone along with some custom touches around the home. I called a contractor I had worked with previously, and also Benning Construction. The owner, Eric Benning, came to my home personally to provide an estimate. He told me up front that he was probably going to be more expensive than my other bid, but that he was worth it. He was right. With that said, the value he and his team brought to the project far exceeded the price difference (which was about 8%). His team put together a full project plan and managed all the subs necessary. They showed up on time every single day throughout the project. They took ZERO money up front, and billed only for work completed, after it had been done. All I had to do was pick my counter tops, color, and open the door each morning when they showed up (ON TIME). The people who work for Benning enjoy what they do, are clean, polite, and extremely good at their profession. Every night before they headed out, they vacuumed the ENTIRE work area, put their stuff away, and made the whole kitchen renovation process as easy as possible. In fact, we hardly had to go out at all, as the way they timed all the work only put my kitchen out of commission for a total of three days or so. The rest of the time I was able to use my appliances, sink, etc. We recently sold the house they did the kitchen renovation in, and the kitchen was a major factor in making the sale quickly, and getting top dollar for it. Benning also did a custom accent wall at our request, which was beautiful. Everyone who entered the house couldn't help but gasp when they saw it. In 2018, we bought a 1970 house that needed a full remodel. Benning Design Construction took the mid-century modern lines and updated them into a modern home. Erin's thoughtful design approach kept what we loved about the house while transforming it into a fresh, new home. Her design fits the house and our lifestyle. She listened to us and patiently redid the design until it was just right. She (gently) pushed us out of our comfort zone at times. We couldn't be more pleased with the end result. When it came time to do the construction, we felt like Eric gave us their 'A-Team'. Luke and his team were diligent, thorough and careful. The attention to detail is evidenced throughout. They worked solidly on our job, except for short periods when third party delays (ie. heating/air, shower glass etc.) caused them to wait. The design/build process took less than a year for a full remodel. Since we moved in, they have fully stood by everything. Nick has happily come out to help with the few little things that have needed fixing. Their relationships with their excellent subs (tile, plumbing, glass and cabinetry) also means we get full support if something goes wrong. When we originally called for an estimate, Ashton said that they might not be the cheapest but they'd be the best. Their professionalism, quality and workmanship truly sets them apart. I originally found Benning Construction on the recommendation of the folks at Lumen's and have used them for a couple of different electrical projects: installing several ceiling fans, installing bedside pendent lamps and a dining room light fixture, and adding recessed lighting to our kitchen/dining room. Their work has always been top notch, and on the one occasion that there was a small issue (I guess some wires were crossed and some of our other lights stopped coming on) they were super prompt in coming out to fix the issue. read more

Eric is professional, kind and courteous, he listens to your needs and follows thru to make sure your home becomes what you have been dreaming about. Benning Design did an awesome job on our kitchen remodel! Everyone working for or with the company did a great job! All are very professional and followed through to make sure that things were done right. This includes Eric, people in the office and all workers who came through to do countertops, electrical, plumbing, etc. Bid was slightly higher than other companies, but you get what you pay for and they handled everything for me. Workmanship is top notch and they will not settle for less. They installed wine fridge in existing cabinet. It did not meet their standards, so they ended up rebuilding a special cabinet instead (no extra cost to me). Nick and Mike both went way above and beyond in every aspect. Ashton worked to stay in touch and coordinate things from the office. Tile work on backsplash was very high quality. Was a lot of work given the herringbone pattern we chose and I couldn't be happier with the results. Will definitely use them again for future projects! read more

We recently completed a whole house remodel with Benning Construction. I am beyond impressed with the finished results. Eric was great about coming out twice to give me the estimate and then to make all the revisions I wanted. Daniel and Luke were so professional, always on time and always cleaned up after themselves every night. Living in a whole house remodel was stressful enough and it was really nice to have them clean up and sweep and mop the floors every evening before they left. Everyone was available and answered their phones or returned text messages when I needed them. They were extremely flexible and made any changes that I thought up during the process. First let me start by saying I will be definitely using Eric and Benning Construction again. Eric came in to complete a job that another contractor left half done and a little bit of a mess. Eric was so easy to work with and always stayed in contact to make sure things were going well. His contractor Nick was awesome and made sure everything was exactly how we wanted. We did have some issues with the stone company they work with - chipped countertop and some installation imperfections - HOWEVER, Nick came in and fixed all of these imperfections. read more

sent Benning Design message via their website since i saw good reviews about them. Ashton called me and i found his customer service to be very poor. I get that this is a a busy time for contractors but was not very subtle about dismissing a potential client. He told me they won't be available till October and advised me to look for other contractors. I asked if he can send someone to look at my home anyway and give me an estimate so in case i ended up waiting till October at least i have a quote/idea from them and he said that will not be very beneficial for them since i am not giving him a guarantee that i will be for sure hire them. very disappointed. I have to say that they do try hard to get it right - but someone forgot the old adage "measure twice, cut once". And also neglected to take into account Murphy's Law. I needed a bathroom door replaced and was told that it required a pre-hung unit, not just a new door. Unfortunately, the carpenter did not take into account that the house was over sixty years old and required a wider frame than is the standard today. The first door frame was not wide enough (measure twice). The next door frame opened the wrong way (Murphy's Law - should have checked purchase before leaving the supplier). The third door frame was just right! I gave them four stars because they did keep in touch with me every step of the way and replaced the door twice without complaint. The final product does look nice, and I have made enough home improvement mistakes myself to not hold it against them! They also did electrical work for me and I am quite satisfied with the end result. In fact, I am having them do additional work later this month. read more

I needed a crumbling rear deck replaced and must have interviewed over 30 contractors before signing a contract with Benning. Eric Benning showed up on time with his assistant Ashton, was professional, and asked good questions. Since I live in a historic-tagged house in Midtown, that meant I needed someone who also knew how to navigate the not-so-easy Preservation Dept. and permits. Benning's bid was the highest but they also produced a high-quality and beautiful deck. You get what you pay for. Brian was the lead on my project and he and his co-worker Donte worked very hard, showed up on time, kept me in the loop, and kept the work site clean. We recently bought a 100 year old house so finding a quality general contractor I could trust was critical to my sanity. We first found Eric Benning and his team (Mike and Nick) through the recommendation of Lumens lighting because we needed to run electricity wiring and add switches for the addition of wall sconces and track lighting in our master bedroom. Mike is the lighting guy on Benning's team and has such a calm and clean demeanor in everything he does - we don't have an attic so it was a bit more complicated but Mike figured it out and also managed to patch and paint over the holes he made without us even noticing. My mom has a cleaning business so order and cleanliness is in my DNA - Eric's team is thoughtful and impeccable with their work which saves me a lot of anxiety. I trust these guys so much I went to Indonesia for three weeks over the holidays and they were here every day working on a laundry room addition on the second story - which was a dreamed up idea of mine that they somehow made a reality. What's better is they retained the original trim/moldings and doors of our hundred-year-old house and put them back on the new built out area so it looked original when it was finished! Eric, Mike, and Nick are more like family now than contractors - I couldn't keep this house in shape without them, and I know they genuinely care about the integrity of my historic home - they are the kind of guys you would want to invite over for a holiday meal because they are all so kind, generous, and helpful! read more
