I dont think ill have a better cookie in this entire world until I get my hands on Ben's cookies. The most chewy and delicious cookies that could ever be made and these were in Oxford. I went with my heart and had the white chocolate chunk. It blew my frickin mind. My girlfriend had the chocolate chunk and enjoyed it to the sweet end. I wanted very much to bring them home but they definitely would have never made it to the states. Go get some, they are in London somewhere too. read more

Wow. The best orange and chocolate cookie I've had. Went in a Thursday afternoon before the rush and some of the cookies were just coming of the oven and the smell lured us towards them. Clever, haha. We had the milk chocolate cookie, the orange and chocolate cookie and the peanut butter one. The cookies are not only super tasty but baked so well. Not overcooked so they are hard and dried but the perfect softness without being mushy. The peanut butter one was not over sweet so not a favorite one, hehe but like I said, the winning one is the orange, you can taste and smell it. The chocolate chunks are big, too. If you've never had Ben's Cookies, you haven't lived. Every single time I am in Oxford, I make it my mission to stop by Ben's and get a bunch of their cookies. Be warned-- it is CASH only and there is usually a line. It's hidden in the market, so you actively need to seek it out (ie you won't just pass by it on the street) This is the OG Ben's Cookies, aka the first one. Now, they can be found world wide. While I am a NY native and they do have a store in NY, ironically enough I have only been to Ben's in Oxford, London and Singapore. And I've had a cookie from Dubai, which my friend brought home from her trip for me, haha ! (so now you know they stay fresh a few days lol) Why are they so good? Because they're like, this perfect cross between a cookie and a cake. They're not too soft, not too hard, and are baked fresh everyday. Their turnover rate is so high that it's pretty much guaranteed you will get a fresh cookie. I recommend the milk chocolate, but they're all delicious. read more

One more five star review. The cookies are so fresh and soft/fluffy. Of note, I would recommend getting a tin. I saved one for later and, although it tasted amazing, it was a smushed mess by the end of the day. The cookies are sold out of this stand in the Covered Market so there is no where to sit down and enjoy them. We ended up going to a coffee shop right next door and having them with a drink. People are not joking when they say Ben's cookies are amazing. Ah-mazing!! I stumbled cross Sara S's review while checking in here and it made me LOL and feel homesick at the same time. So Ben's has become a popular brand name cookie shop thought London, but the original is in Oxford. Obviously, I had to try the original. I was expecting more grandeur, being so famous and all...at least a small line would be expected. Nope!! The market was pretty empty at 11am on a weekday and there was no line at Ben's. I felt weird being the only tourist taking selfies with the store front. The cookie made up for it. I chose the "plain" chocolate chip cookie.... Which looked like dark chocolate compared to the other "milk" chocolate chip cookie. They have a few other flavors too, most of which were displayed in the window. I saw after that you can purchase milk, too. Smart. Although it wasn't fresh out of the oven; it was perfect: just the way I like my cookies. It wasn't too sweet, it was chewy, yet crisp on the outside. Perfection. I had some pretty great cookies when I attended Scripps College, but Ben's is right up there with Scripps dining hall. I don't think it is exactly necessary to stop here at Oxford just for the original Ben's... I took a day trip out to Oxford and while wandering around the covered market, I saw a line of people waiting. As I got closer, I smelled the delcious cookies and immediately got in line. The cookies are on the pricier side, but well worth it. They sell the cookies by weight and also have options to get gift tins. They're constantly cranking out freshly baked cookies from their oven to keep up with the huge line of people. The Double Chocolate & Nut was delicious, but the Orange & Milk Chocolate cookie blew me away. It was still warm and gooey, which was quite messy to eat, but it was so freakin good. Next time I'm in the UK, I'll get a whole tin of these to bring back. All for me. read more

They put crack in these cookies or something. In my 3 weeks at Oxford, I'd have to say that the Covered Market was basically my second home. One, because of Alpha Bar, Two, because of Ricardo's and last but not least, because of BEN'S COOKIES.. Yes, Ben's Cookies was my most frequented pit stop. Lunch? I've tried Peanut butter chocolate chip, Milk Chocolate chip, Regular Chocolate Chip (dark chocolate), Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip with Orange & White Chocolate Chip. They are all really really good-- soft on the inside with a slightly crispy outside. The orange chocolate chip was definitely unusual for me and the orange flavoring is stronger than I expected. My favorite was Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip... but unfortunately I never got to have one of them straight from the oven. As other reviews have said, YOU MUST HAVE A WARM BEN'S COOKIE for the full experience. I was lucky enough to snag a chocolate chip as part of a freshly baked batch... OMFG. These cookies are pretty big and they are coming out fresh! There are multiple choices of flavors to choose from! I ordered a dark chocolate chip cookie and it was yummy! The dark chocolate was a nice addition to the sweetness of the cookie. It was a soft cookie, with a slight crunch. My cookie was warm and tasted extremely fresh! I'm not sure if they had milk or not, but it would have gone perfect with a cookie! They make their cookies fresh daily and have a little window to watch the worker make the cookies. A British household name. My friend recommended we had to go try her all time favourite cookie. We got to the shop just as they were closing but there was still a decent selection and we all got our first choice. This location is in the Oxford covered market which is a super cute place to visit and poke around the shops. The cookies were on the pricier side (but isn't everything in England?) but worth the cost for a splurge. I got the milk chocolate and orange. Slightly crispy around the outer edges, really soft in the domed centre...these cookies are beauts. My favourite flavours are the chocolate-orange, the classic chocolate, and I *swear* that several years ago they had a lemon-white chocolate chip that no one can confirm BUT REMAINS THE STUFF OF MY BAKED DREAMS. Undecided? A good way of making your selection - see what's coming right off the baking sheet...cookies with warm melting centres solve all problems. Ben's opts to, instead of charging a flat price/cookie, sell cookies by weight. This makes sense to me. Good one, Ben! Double bonus for having "Ben", the logo of the shop, designed by Quentin Blake, familiar to me as the illustrator for many a Roald Dahl image. Ben and Matilda could have been great friends! Are there any better cookies in the world? Not likely. The cookies are fresh-baked and warm when you buy them, and probably laced with something illegal and addictive. I haven't been back to Oxford in over a year and I still think about them. Also, they use the big flat gourmet chocolate chips that even a vanilla-lover like myself can appreciate. One of my absolute favorite things about Ben's (other than the cookies themselves) is that they sell MILK. And not in one of those questionable grade-school cardboard cartons, either--they give you organic milk in a cute little paper cup. It made the experiences I had there absolutely perfect. When I entered the Covered Market I was struck by the line outside Ben's Cookies, but I kept exploring. When I completely my circuit, there was the same long line. What's going on? They have about 16 different cookies and they sell for about £15/kg or approx £1.30 each. Since I don't eat chocolate, I ignored them. Later that night, I find out my host used to live next door to the original owner. Once I heard the story, I decided I would go back. I ordered the peanut butter and the oatmeal and raisin. The peanut butter was ok, nothing to write about. But the oatmeal & raisin was a different story. First, the spice wafts out of the bag. "Hey Tots we have 15 minutes until our bus to Leeds leaves"-me *both look at each other "Wanna run and get one last cookie?"-me "OK!"- tots and yes... we RAN 3 blocks to stand in a 5 minute line to get ONE LAST cookie for the road before we left Oxford... and was it worth it? Can I get a "HELL YEAH!"? These cookies aren't the cheapest sugar fix out there, nor the healthiest, but it was hands down the BEST cookie I've ever had in my entire 22 years of existence... Many may say that I'm exaggerating, and I kinda wish I was too because now NO OTHER COOKIE WILL DO. I mean other cookies may come close to curing a typical craving, but Ben's cookies will fix that craving and turn it into an addiction. In the 2 days I was in Oxford I had 8 cookies (3 the first day, 3 the next, and 2 last cookies- the one Tots and I ran for) and they were the best confection of ooey-gooey-ness ever. Because they're so thick and sold by weight you would think these cookies were dry in the middle, but NO. I think their trick is that they're just a TAD bit underdone, so it leaves the outside crisp and the inside warm and perfect. White, milk, and dark chocolate chips are no joke in this joint... they use chips the size of the circle created by your thumb and forefinger... but the best flavor by far... the OATMEAL RASIN. I'm usually not a fan, but this one blends the perfect amount of sweet, cinnamon-y, and oatty texture, that make you wonder why your own mother never made them this way... GOSH MOM! Ok... now for the ONE downer... each cookie is about 450-70 calories... yeah... and to think I scarfed down 8 in one weekend. I have never met anyone who didn't love a Ben's Cookie. It's completely indulgent, both financially and calorically (how much for one cookie?! HOW many calories?!). But you just don't think about it, because the bliss is worth the £2 you lose from your wallet and the 2lb you find on your waist. It just is. I'll start with the lone real negative: Ben's Cookies is the the Covered Market, so it follows those opening hours. Closing at 5:30pm is just too early for a food/dessert establishment, and being closed all day Sunday is just a travesty. Back to the good stuff: Everyone has their own favourite cookies--mine are the "double and nut" and the triple chocolate. I have to admit I didn't try them all, because I loved the ones I tried the first time. Sometimes (ok, often), the queue is quite long, and then you just want to order and get out of the way (know what you want before you get to the window!). Other times when it's slower, you can ask what they have that's warm, because even though the cold ones are still tasty, the warm ones are out of this world. I would take a less-preferred, or possibly even an untried flavour warm, than a tried and true cold. This is in large part because I have faith in all flavours, and indeed all aspects, of Ben's Cookies. I lived in Oxford for a year, and when I went back to visit, I had two Ben's Cookies, bought a tin to bring back home, and made my mother incredibly jealous by telling her all about it. And how much does she like Ben's Cookies? She balked at the price when I first brought her there, and now she tells me to have a cookie for her when I'm there... AND tells me to tell me friends to do the same. The tin that I bought? They gave it to me in a Ben's Cookies plastic bag. They are large and doughy and chocolaty (or whatever you choose) so really one is enough. soft and chewy but still crisp, they are sold by weight so the larger the one you get, the more you pay but thus you can ask for a smaller one. Go to Ben's Cookies. Order one oatmeal and raisin cookie, and proceed to endulge yourself in Oxford's premier food luxury. You will not regret this and your love of cookies will be enhanced. I never liked them before, and have never ordered them anywhere else since, quite simple because it wouldn't come close. While revising, I used to do this every day, around 4pm. The great English tradition of 'tea' was all the better for a Ben's cookie. It brightened the day, and roused the spirit; spurring me through the dreary revision till dinner at 6.30pm.
