We've been going to Benson Animal Hospital for well over 20 years, and Dr. Margaret Anderson is a very knowledgeable, kind and caring Veterinarian. I'm an Independent Rescuer of cats and dogs and I bottle feed baby kittens, and she takes her time whenever we bring in any one of our rescued animals. We currently have 4 dogs and 2 foster dogs and a colony of cats that are spayed/neutered that we treat as our family members and she treats each of them as if they are her own pets. She takes her time with us every time we go there. And because we have so many animals, she always works with us on different options that work within our budget. We're so thankful for her and her wonderful staff. They're all so kind and caring. We can't thank them enough. read more

Had a kitten get stuck in engine and was hurt pretty bad. Called Benson animal hospital a few minutes before they closed. Told them it was an emergency and could they see the kitten. Dr. Anderson is very kind, caring and communicative. Punkin, my senior Yorkie, has some red appearing stool which concerned me. The sample I brought in was negative for blood. Dr. Anderson performed a thorough exam on Punkin, listening to his chest and belly, palpating his abdomen, checking around the anus, found no foreign body and determined that gratefully, this was a false alarm. She completely reassured me and advised a follow up visit to reassess. Little dogs can be quite fragile. We will continue to rely on her care for Punkin and any other pets we adopt. read more

Dr Anderson is a kitten killer and a terrible veterinarian. I've been going to her for the last three years or so through a rescue I foster for, and this week I had four kittens pass away because she didn't give me the correct medication even after multiple phone calls and kittens dying. She is never there on time, it's always forever wait and absolutely no help if the problem is beyond basic shots or surgeries. This is not the first time a kitten died in my arms because she didn't do a proper exam and dismissed that the animal was obviously sick. I don't understand how she gets all these positive reviews when her answer to any problem is "I don't know". I came in with a dying cat once and she made us wait instead of saying she won't even be there for hours, and she didn't allow the techs perform anything besides weight and temperature check. We ended up going to a different vet as an emergency visit. The kittens that passed went to her with eye infections first, she barely looked at them, didn't do any real eye check, said they're going to be blind and likely lose their eyes. I had to ask her for stronger eye drops, and their eyes were improving drastically until one of them became lethargic. Turned out it was a parasite (coccidia) that requires not only specific dewormer (which she gave me) but also an antibiotic that required prescription. She should have known this as a standard procedure, I found this out later from the good old internet. Once the first kitten passed I've been calling and asking for THREE days to get the antibiotics for the rest of the kittens and she just ignored me. They kept telling me that she'd get back to me and she never did,while I was holding dying kittens, giving them fluids and syringe feeding them. I don't know if it's because I'm with a rescue, even though they pay for the services, nothing is done for free. My guess is she just really doesn't care, she even told me a story about putting her own cat down because she didn't want to continue to treat it for a sickness that I'm familiar with and it's very curable, just takes a few weeks. I will not go back there again, this woman should not be allowed to practice at all! read more

Dr Anderson and her team have taken great care of all of our animals. Most recently our Layla puppy was spayed and had a hernia repair. The staff kept us informed and treated Layla wonderfully!! We took our dog in for the yearly blood work and the Lepto vaccine. My dog got ill that evening, restless, shivering, panting all night. We could not sleep at all. We told the vet after the second night of the same symptoms. No word from the vet. 6 days now and we still have the same symptoms, plus now I have severe kidney pain. Now I'm inclined to think the vet infected my dog with Lepto and through the cleaning up of the mess he has created of our house, I believe I have Lepto now. I would not recommend this vaccine administered by this vet. I'm on an antibiotic now and still need to get my dog on one in hopes he survives this horrible episode. He was perfectly healthy when we went in for his annual. We would have been much better to not have gone to this vet. read more

Dr. Anderson and her staff are awesome. They have cared for our pets for the last five years, and never disappointed us. She and her staff are caring and compassionate and always veru helpful. We have cats, dogs, guinea pigs and a potbellied pig (who is the offspring of one of Dr. Anderson's assistant's pig), They are trustworthy, kind and eady to reach whenever we needed them. We have boarded our pets here 2x. The first time: When we picked up our dog, he had something like rope burn that went under his belly and between his legs. His leash had almost been chewed through, so it appeared he had been tied up somewhere and had been rubbed raw from his leash and even tried to chew his way off of it. The second time: We boarded our cat. They gave us a drop off time and then their automated machine sent us a different drop off time. We dropped her off and were told we could pick her up Saturday from 4:30-5:00. We left our hotel and were very careful to hurry back to be there in time to pick her up. We arrived at 4:20. Someone drove away as soon as we pulled up. We knocked. We called. We went to both doors. We were there until after 5:00. No one was there. We weren't able to pick up our cat that day. This was very frustrating. No phone number for boarding. No one there. No way to get our cat. We had to get our cat the next day when someone was there. Very poor communication amongst the employees. I took my rescue here a week ago to get neutered. I wasn't allowed to speak with a vet before the surgery. And when I took him neck to have the stitches removed again wasn't allowed to speak with the vet. " the vet is on the phone with a conference I'm sorry you can't speak with her". My dog had ripped open his stitches and now has a wound. And was still extremely swollen. And was told by the lady at the front desk oh he will be fine the swelling will go down within 2-4 weeks. I wouldn't recommend this vet. Just because my dog is a rescue and because of who I got him from I'm treated differently than someone off the street which is bs! Considering I'm the one paying for his vet bill. read more

I had a kitten get hung up in engine compartment while starting the kitten got chewed up. I called Benson animal hospital that was about 10 minutes away if they would see the kitten. The told me they were closing and could not help the kitten. I would never take my pet to these uncaring people, its all about the money. They really could care less about your pet. Please let everyone know - thank you! I was at work at Ft. Bragg when my wife called frantic that Mia (my dig) was bleeding everywhere from a fight. I told her to take her to the closest vet -Benson Animal Hospital - and put pressure on the wound. Thanks to my neighbor who helped usher the two dogs that were the worst-off to the vet they were there in minutes. As I rushed from Ft. Bragg to Benson - I called ahead and informed the vet that they would be receiving two injured dogs shortly. They said they would be prepared. I got to the vet in under forty minutes and as I arrived I walked into the treatment room worried and hoping to see my two dogs alive and ok. Mia was on a table with a towel over her leg (held there by my neighbor), and Ginger was being pet by Emma. There was a tech in the doorway standing with her arms crossed and nobody else. I pulled off the towel to see what it looked like and was hit in the face from more than a foot away by the spray of arterial blood. I put the towel back on, placed pressure on it, and asked where the vet was and what the plan was. The vet Dr. Anderson was standing behind me and said that they were just about to take a look a Mia's leg, but she thought it was minor, and Ginger's leg was "superficial" and would heal on it's own. To this point the only "care" given was a groomer who came and partially shaved around the wounds. I told Emma that I was calling our vet at Ft. Bragg, getting some treatment supplies from my car and we were leaving. I placed a pressure bandage on Mia's leg and left back to Ft. Bragg. Within an hour of arriving at the Veterinary Treatment Facility, all three dogs (Dobby needed many stitches as well) were sedated and being stabilized. Ultimately, Mia severed a branch of her cephalic artery and her radial nerve, Ginger required a multi-layer complicated closure that went down to her bone, and Dobby took 10 stitches to close the flap on his leg. All told, it took two veterinarians, one special ops medic, one vet tech, more than 50 stitches, and two drains. Had I followed the plan set by Dr. Anderson, Ginger would have probably died from infection at worst and lost her leg at best. Mia would have bled to death or had to have her entire leg amputated. The worst part of all of this is that Benson Animal Hospital sent us a bill for both Ginger and Mia. They "credited" us for Mia - understandable since the only person in the building who treated her was my neighbor. We told them we would pay for the groomer's time who shaved a few spots but nothing else was done, so nothing else should be billed. Less than 30 days after nearly killing our dogs and billing us for it, they had the gall to send it to collections. We will contest all of that as needed but it should be known, never, ever, take your animal to Benson Animal Hospital; especially not in an emergency. It takes a vet with experience and a genuine connection to the animals to make the life-changing positive diagnosis that Dr. Anderson made for our cat. When my husband was in the hospital for two weeks, a friend took care of our cat, but her helper accidentally gave the cat 1.0 unit instead of .10 unit of insulin. A trip to Dr. Anderson ensued, and the cat was stabilized. I had sent along bloodwork results for previous trips to the cat's regular vet. Dr. Anderson has a special interest in diabetic cats, so she studied the numbers and rather quickly realized one number had changed. The change, oddly enough, meant the cat was becoming less diabetic. Dr. Anderson further studied our cat to verify her suspicions. For the past three weeks, the cat has been off insulin and continues to have normal blood sugar. We'll need to have the cat's urine and blood tested frequently, but it appears we won't have to continue twice-daily insulin injections that kept us on a very tight schedule.
