I've come here a handful of times and have done some easy walks, as well as the more strenuous trek all the way up to Pittock Mansion. The observation deck is always a favorite stop too since it's such a pretty area. The whole park is very lush and seems to stay that way no matter the time of year. Not sure if all of the trails are dog friendly, but we have brought a dog on some and see lots of them throughout the park.

It's fairly easy-to-moderate, with the true uphill slog coming right before the mansion, but along the way you'll cross a couple of bridges, be awed by a stand of redwoods and march though a lush forest. The new Barbara Walker bridge is pretty cool to walk over as it curves across Burnside. All told, it's about a 3 mile round trip, mostly shaded and fairly hilly in parts, but not too intimidating IMO. The city view at the mansion is the icing on the cake.

The trail is well-marked so I know where I am, and it's 30 miles long so there's lots to explore and discover. My fitness is increasing because of the inclines for intensity and the flats for recovery. I always appreciate the multiple parking / entrance points of the trail. This is one of Portland's gems. We were not disappointed in the slightest! Most of the park is up on a hill which if I recall correctly is an extinct volcano. The reservoirs are very cool to look at and walk around at. We went to three of them and I believe that is the total number that aren't decommissioned but there once was five reservoirs here but two are decommissioned. The reservoirs were once used for drinking water but now serve primarily as a scenic and historic feature which it most certainly is! There is all kinds of paths you can walk around in and even minor hikes of a urban sort if you want to look at it that way as if you want you can walk uphill for quite a while. If you roam around the park you can see beautiful views of downtown Portland which is very enjoyable to see. I definitely recommend visiting this park and it has the appeal where it will attract tourists and locals alike as it is just that kind of a special place!

An old, decommissioned aviation beacon still blinks away at all hours of the day and night like a lighthouse, and the rustic lanterns around the perimeter make the park feel as if it were time-shifted from an earlier era. Even though it was a hot day, the park felt surprisingly cool and refreshing thanks to all the trees and shade. There are plenty of trails for walking, running, and biking, along with basketball courts, a small skate park, and a playground for kids. There also happened to be an event going on while I was there, and it was great to see the park come alive with so many people. It's such a spacious park that I can easily see it being a great venue for both small and large events.My favorite part, though, was the lake. It created such a peaceful atmosphere and made it easy to slow down and just enjoy the moment. I loved the multiple viewpoints overlooking the water, and seeing the ducks swimming around was the perfect finishing touch.This ended up being one of my favorite places to unwind during my time in Portland.

I got to sample a nice (but fairly…read moresmall) network of intertwined trails in this fairly small park (or, ah, natural area), none of them flat, which I totally appreciated for their winding character and shifting terrain. Most are moderate to easy single tracks through wooded areas, but there are some tricky spots, which can get sloppy after rains, but kudos to the volunteers who hacked these paths through a narrow and sometimes steep canyon. You'll get little sun, and lotsa shade, (and sorta sketchy parking), but the trails are decently maintained. Just be aware - they're not flat or paved.

The trails weave their way through the park, down to the creek, and back up to another entry dead end street. It's fairly charming with lots of native plants, wood bridges, and staircases. Looks like someone regularly makes flower art on a particular storm drain - cute. Signposts at trail intersections provide info, but there's no trail map which would be useful. Probably about 2 miles of trails total, some are steep uphill but otherwise it's fairly easy. Dogs allowed on leash. (I saw a number of owners who were not following this rule but didn't have any issues.)

We arrived at 9:15am on a weekday so the crowds were small and the weather cool and comfortable. We did the Multnomah Wahkeena falls loop which was about 5.5 miles. The trail was well groomed and easy to follow. The two namesake falls were the most stunning but there were many beautiful falls, vegetation, and overlooks along the way. Lots of switchbacks but overall I'd rate the trail medium in difficulty. We ran into a few people along the way but it was not very crowded. The paths to both the falls are paved (but steep). Only one annoying, having-a-fit-kid seen along the way. Ha ha. Felt more sorry for the mom. People were friendly. Great experience.

This is a fantastic beautiful park along Eagle Creek! With that said, the only negative was the $8…read moreday-use fee. Other parks with day-use fees around Portland currently usually charge $5, but they do have an annual pass you can get for a certain group of parks if you plan on visiting them regularly. There is a restroom (not just a porta-potty, but an actual restroom. Yay!), a playground, baseball diamond, and lots of picnic tables. Some of the picnic tables have in-ground charcoal BBQ pits, too. They also have a picnic shelter you can pay to reserve. For hiking, they have a few different trails to choose from and all were very well-maintained when we visited. One of the trails is even accessible for folks with mobility issues, all flat and wide. The park & trails have plenty of huge trees for shade, and the big main trail goes along the creek in several places. There are even a few spots where you can hang out right along the creek shore. Aside from the easy accessible trail, I'd say the other trails are mild to medium in difficulty just due to some of the hilly inclines, but we saw families with younger kids walking them without a problem.

Head past the bathroom and down the road to the launch area, then go right from the beach to reach Hog Island. The water is calm and relaxing. It's a nice spot for walking dogs, with easy trails and a sandy area by the river for them to enjoy.
