They provided water and while we were driving, our tour guide provided rich history of the valley and the land. We visited three excellent wineries and had different experiences at each of them. The first was a traditional and one of the oldest wineries, then we went to another winery that served white Pinot Noir, which was amazing, and we went to another modern winery with a really rich history as well, and it was by far the sleekest winery we visited. I love that they curated the tour to highlight different practices in organic and biodynamic farming. We learned a lot during our time together. We also had opportunities to venture off on our own, which served us well because we didn't want to feel forced to engage with people we were never going to see again. I highly recommend this tour company, especially if you want to learn about the terroir of the Willamette Valley. We also highly recommend visiting their beautiful and well stocked tasting room in Portland!

Our guide, Aron, who has worked in the wine industry, was very knowledgeable and shared lots of good information--including about unrelated topics like places to eat in Portland. He also picked up lunch for us at The Horse Radish in Carlton, so we could eat at one of the wineries and not waste time driving. I wanted at least one winery pouring Sauvignon Blanc in a valley dominated by Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He found Balsall Creek, then rounded out the day with Ridgecrest and Compris. All three were off the beaten path. No crowded tasting rooms, no tour bus circuit. Just remarkable wines and winemakers with stories to tell. Our guide Robert is a master sommelier, and it showed all day. My wife and I have tasted extensively in the Russian River Valley and Bourgogne, and Robert drew sharp comparisons between all three regions. He walked us through the Willamette's geologic history, from the Missoula Floods to the volcanic and marine sedimentary soils that define its AVAs, and connected it all to what was in our glasses. It was a full day of wine education disguised as a tasting tour. The picnic lunches, made by Wayne and his wife, were a highlight of their own. The turkey sandwich with apple and cucumber drew raves from the table. My vegan lettuce wrap was every bit as good. These were not afterthought box lunches. Our group of four had a roomy van to ourselves, which kept the whole day comfortable and unhurried. Yes, you can bring your own food n board. Our birthday girl brought a stack of pizzas, chips, dips and a birthday cake. Yes, they get you as up close to the falls as legally allowed. Yes, there are plenty of tables and comfy sofa style benches to relax on while you take in the sunset. Yes, they have bluetooth speakers so you can all jam to your favorite tunes. Yes, they provide a karaoke machine so your party can garble the 2 whole hours if they want. The tour goes south down way to Dunthorpe, turns and comes back on the far side of Ross Island, then goes up past the Fremont Bridge for unobstructed sunset views before heading back to dock. The price for the tour was right -- it was cheaper than the Portland Spirit's dinner cruise (the only tour they offer for sunset) and longer than their late afternoon happy hour cruise. Overall I recommend Island Style for a fun and easy tour of the Willamette!

They will be doing joint events with their Woodsman Tavern neighbors, combining wine tasting with food experiences, making their location seem particularly auspicious.
