Plenty of beautiful settings make for the perfect photo op

I had the opportunity to visit this park for the first time last weekend for our annual family photo session. While I haven't viewed the professional proofs yet, I already know that they are going to be amazing. How could they not be in such a beautiful location? Tucked into the heart of downtown LO, there are so many unique settings located within this beautiful park that you are guaranteed to end up with dozens of stunning photos, even if you are just snapping a couple of candids with an iPhone like we did in the pics below. While I didn't have the opportunity to explore all the amenities that this park has to offer, if you are searching for a location to take some gorgeous photos that is not too far off the beaten path, then you do not need to look any further. This hidden gem will not disappoint. There is also plenty of free parking on site as well.

Betcha don't know what this is!  No!  It's not to stop homeless people from camping inside.

This is an awesome park! It's the 3rd day of Spring, it is 52 degrees, quiet (there are people in the small park playing, having picnic, with their dogs, and children), or on the beach, but this is a perfect time for me! It's a bit breezy, cool, wearing my hat & gloves and coat - PERFECT! We didn't get to see everything, where we picnic, in a shady picnic area with many benches and tables, only two were occupied, and it's during pandemic. I wanted to start our walk here, but hubby directed me to go to the car & drop off our lunch bag, and we never went back! Let's just say: I took lots of photos! We will have to come back for Part 2!

First off, *how and why did I lose my previous ROTD for this park????????????* And did I lose other ROTD'S? I don't know, I didn't keep track of them all but I am 100% certain this was previously a ROTD for me. And why can't I post videos :( It wants to trim an already short video and then doesn't even post that! Gah! Wow, I keep discovering more good stuff here! I'm glad they finally opened up the real bathroom since porta potties are well....ew. But hey, many places don't even have that! So my previous reviews were about the beach and hiking trail above the river. But there is also a little forest the opposite direction of the river walk. When you cross the little bridge you can go left above the river, or to the right, towards the forest and creek. The river side sorta ends when the sidewalk ends near the first neighborhood street, it's a pretty decent length walk. We explored the forest/creek last time and it was so pretty there too, but in a different way. The forest isn't too big, and it quickly leads to a nice neighborhood along the lake. It's super scenic too, overall a bit shorter of a walk than the opposite side. I recommend doing both. Please see my photos and video.

Positively gorgeous park. Bring a picnic to snack on the grass and enjoy the water view. The trails are nice. The sand beach is small but fun. The playground is inconvenient to get to and parking is limited. But nothing beats this lovely vista. Nothing.

I always love going to George Rogers Park/Beach access. It was 90 degrees and my girlfriend and I made an impromptu decision to grab our gear and spend the evening at this fun location. It's always busy with tons of people on the beach and in the water enjoying SUP, floats, jet skis, etc. It's always packed and although I love the location. It really difficult to find parking. It makes it challenging when you have to haul your equipment down. This is definitely a place to stay and play in the sun with family and friends.

Great fun for the whole family, it can get very full on a hot day but definitely a good place to have a safe refreshing day. There's different areas to swim and go for a boat ride, as well as a park nearby

    Great place to kayak

So fun for the whole family! Bring food, water , sun hat, water shoes! Kayaks floating tubes! Water it gets hot!! Sand toys!

Fantastic park rich with history and full of cool places to explore and play. Whether you come here to hang out next to the Willamette river, go to the Shakespeare festival in the park, have pancakes on Fourth of July in the ballfield or just generally to hang out with your kids at the playground, there is something for everyone and a good time to be had by all. This park has riverfront access. The beach is like no other one I've ever been to on the Willamette or anywhere else. There used to be an iron smeltery here and next-door was a Lumbermill. Because of that all along the riverbank you can find tiny shards of what appears to be obsidian but is actually iron ore. It's very cool stuff. It's very shiny like glass and strikingly Black. You can wade in the water here or take a canoe out and check things out if you want. There's plenty to see with Reminence of old industry in an area of Portland that's rich with history. The playground here is great, it has fencing around most of it and offers a variety of cool features. The sandbox has a great digging claw that can be controlled from the sideline. There are lots of trucks and tractors that have been donated by the neighborhood people over the years to play with. There's great spaces for imaginative play with a fake pirate boat and swings. There's features to stand on that spin around and climbing structures with bridges. All ages can find something interesting to do here even adventurous adults. There is parking on both sides of the park. You will find tennis courts in the upper area along with the ballfield, the playground, and a part of the park that is dedicated to Portland sister city in Japan. The lower area has parking flanking the bottom of the ballfield and going down the hill towards the smeltery. There's lots of picnic areas, bathrooms and a circular part to run your dog or jog. If you would like to take a stroll you can walk down the river in the area of the old mill for about three quarters of a mile. You also cross Oswego Creek over a little bridge with a nice view. There's lots of cool historical information about the area here that you can read. I have been coming here since I was a kid and would highly suggest adding it to your repertoire if you are a Portlander. This is an incredibly elaborate an interesting park and a true icon of Portland history.

Great park to go for almost everything. It's got a beach with a private feel, playground and lots of open area for Park activities. I wanted to take the fam to the beach without the hassles of driving for two hours to the coast. It's not clear, but there were plenty of people in the water to make me feel confident it was cool to swim in. We had a great time and it's definitely a place you should check out.

Slides, step rocks, climbing structures, picnic tables in the open and shade, lots of benches, even water bowls for dogs - clearly a lot of thought went into the design and build of Spring Garden Park. It's close to Multnomah Village which is how I discovered it after visiting the food truck area and wanting someplace serene to enjoy my meal. We went on a sunny day and it wasn't over crowded. -1 star for personal reasons: my daughter is young (19 mo) and was able to swing on the baby seat swing, however, she was not confident to try the older play structure. The structure seems more appropriate for 2.5 and older. It has a pretty cool rock climber for older kids. My experience makes me wonder if there are parks in Portland that are more inclusive for all children and their abilities? I hope that Portland Parks and Recreation would be willing to rethink how they can be more inclusive when designing a park. I will be the first to admit I know nothing about building a park, but If I did I would want everyone to feel included.
