Don't waste your time...they are not interested in your business. I went through the process of setting up an in-home estimate and got a chance to meet with one of their Sales and Service Representatives (Doug) - he was very easy to talk to and at least walked and talked like a professional. I was optimistic. From there, things went downhill quickly. I received the quote from Doug, and then as soon as I had a question about the pricing, he went radio silent. After sending a follow-up email, and then calling Doug on both his cell phone and his office line, I became fed up and left a message with the company answering service stating that I was having an issue getting a contract executed, and that I would like to speak to the owner to get the issue resolved. It seems the owner, like Doug, has neither the courage nor the professionalism to actually speak to a customer when something has gone wrong...how do you think that translates to the installation and ongoing service they provide? They try to sell you this "family owned", "hard workin' folks" fairy tale - don't fall for it. They don't care about you, or your business - especially if you're just a simple home owner trying to protect your family through the winter. I feel like I really dodged a bullet, as I was about to use this same company to install and service generators for my 10+ businesses across NY and NJ. I've worked with contractors and vendors across all types of trades, and I'm happy I get to give the money to a professional company vs. this clown show of a business. Note: I sent in an RFP to outfit my businesses using my work contact information and, not surprisingly, the owner seems to have all the time in the world to correspond with me when a six-figure contract is on the line. I am customer of yours with a service agreement and a life threatening emergency. I have a carbon monoxide leak from our generator that requires emergency service and I cannot even get through to a representative. Our generator didn't kick on when we lost power during N'oreaster Quinn. Left a message after a Google search, hoping for a service call in the upcoming days. At 3:45am, our phone rings. Despite downed trees and hazardous conditions, two guys are outside our house, making their way through more than a foot of snow to replace the battery and spark plug. They refused payment and said they would mail an invoice. They have our business forever! read more

Our family had a very bad experience with this company, and we want everyone to be aware of it. Hopefully, this awareness will help you to save money and time. We have our generator installed 6 years ago, by another company, and all those years it was working fine. This year in springtime Generac sent us a postcard with a recall, so we called Benson Ver Hage Electric to follow with the repair required by that recall, and to perform the maintenance on the generator at the same time. After their first visit, which cost us $836, everything went down the heel - generator stopped working after the second-week test run. Of course, we couldn't prove that it happened because of the maintenance they did even though it looked like it. Anyway, we called them multiple times, they were very busy with lots of calls from Northern NJ due to hurricane-related power losses, and after several weeks we finally got someone to come and check our generator, and informed us, that we need to replace a cylinder head, or in worse case even to replace entire cylinder...After that, it took again several weeks and several calls to schedule the next appointment to fix the generator. This one was a complete failure - instead of fixing the generator, the technician started again from reviewing the previously identified problem, and noticed that he does not have with him cylinder head, and told us that the generator would need a new engine, since they are not able to replace a cylinder, and it will roughly cost us around 2200 dollars for them to replace it. At the same time, we received a bill for the first visit - 200 dollars. When we saw that bill, we realized, that if we are dealing with such a company, we soon will be getting the second one for the second visit. And that exactly what happened in a week. After multiple calls to the Customer service and Billing department, we finally reached the owner of the company, and he graciously authorized to waive the cost for the second visit. So, we decided to call another company after we had already paid this company more than 1000 dollars, and our generator was still broken. Guess what, another company immediately sent a technician and provided us with a free estimate. It turned out there is no need to replace the entire engine. The cylinder head was obtained and replaced within one week, and it did not cost us 2200! Too bad we didn't call that second company the first time around - we definitely would save lots of time and money. Please think twice before giving your business to Benson Ver Hage Electric company - they are far away from being professional and honest with their clients. read more

Have a whole house stand by generator. Scheduled the service with Benson for them to perform the annual maintenance on a 20kw generator. As scheduled showed up on time, and completed the job with testing the generator to make sure it was working condition. Very happy with the service, will be using them for all electrical needs. read more

I agree with many of the reviews that Benson Ver Hage is not interested in your business. First, they are non-responsive. It took months for my Generac to be installed. Second, the price quote did not include installation (or somehow, my installation ended up costing more money). Third, after installation, it took several months to obtain an inspection. We failed. They needed an additional part. That was September and I'm still waiting. Ohh--and I received an invoice for the part. read more

We had a friend install a Generac generator several years ago after Sandy hit but we absolutely dropped the ball on maintenance as we had never owned one before (I know I know). I found myself in an awkward situation. I had a Generac generator installed by another dealer that happens to be located a couple of miles south of BVH, their name rhymes with all-right, but nothing was all right at all. After a six month ordeal that could be described as nothing short of a nightmare, I was left with a generator that was not working. Thank goodness I found Benson Ver Hage. They understood my situation, and gracefully and professionally came out to help me. The office staff and the technicians that came to my home were courteous and efficient. The technician even took off his shoes every time he came in and out of my house! After doing a complete assessment on the previous installation, they quickly found the cause of my problems and made all the necessary repairs. I could not have asked for a better experience.
