The staff are amazing and professional. So kind and caring and patient. The best vet office in Nanaimo in my opinion.

I was recently traveling abroad with a friend whose dog got sick and died while she was away. Her…read moreexperience (over the phone) with Central Island Vet was so upsetting to witness, that I had to write a review. Two things stood out to me: - Shortly after the dog's arrival at the vet, the vet counselled my friend and her husband to put their dog to sleep, without doing any tests or giving her any time to try to stabilize, despite their dog having gotten through a similar episode previously. The vet kept going on about quality of life, as if my friend were trying to keep her dog alive far too long (it had barely been a couple of hours). - The absolute worst part was that after her dog passed, the vet, on the phone, said that they had taken her paw prints after she had died, and my friend could buy them for $10. First of all, this was done without asking my friend or her husband, without their consent. Second of all, in what world is a veterinary clinic so greedy and opportunistic to spring this on someone who's beloved pet has just died?! My friends spent thousands of dollars in a matter of hours at the clinic, and they still want to charge for the paw prints? I've never come across anything so tasteless in my life. How shameful.

NOT HAPPY. My pup…read moreand I showed up with her ear split open. Bleeding a lot. The vet tech said she would be out shortly to assess. Waited 9 hours and I asked them to at least assess her. After 9 hours and repeated requests to see someone, I saw the vet. Determined surgery and antibiotics to prevent infection as it was a dog bite. When I arrived to grab my pup with a different vet on site, there were no antibiotics prescribed. I asked 4 times for them as I told them it was a dog bite. The vet refused to speak to me and didn't explain why they are not prescribing antibiotics. The front desk staff just said "there is nothing we can do." Two weeks later, my pup had a massive infection in the ear. My current vet said at times the infection could open the wound. I told them what happened and my vet was shocked my pup didn't receive antibiotics after a dog bite. My puppy went underwent the same surgery again at a different vet. I was shocked that it was half the cost even with prescribed pain meds as well as antibiotics. I contacted the team and their programmer refunded me the money which is appreciated. I emailed the medical director and no apology or acknowledgment of what took place. No accountability. Hiding behind the idea that things are never black and white referencing the use of antibiotics. The challenge here is that the other vet that originally assessed my dog was so clear that my dog really needs antibiotics because of the bacteria that exists in a dog bite. Changing a treatment plan without consultation doesn't sit well with me. I have to say... I know places like this are never malicious... yet what I experienced was extremely frustrating and has put my pup in the same situation which could have been avoided. The picture was taken at the new vet before she underwent the same surgery.

Do ask for the other vet. This doctor needs a sabbatical. Albeit has a Jolly gregarious manner,…read morethis underlies a malevolent misogynist attitude. He has provided me and my wonderful lab cross with seriously bad information with regards to local services available to more serious surgical cases. Makes presumptions without asking questions. May be from out of town and knows nothing about life in B.C. Loud. Offensive. Rude. If your dog is of a delicate nature such as my darling girl be sure to be firm with Dr. J.Goldman that you do not want him/her carried about like a sheep about to get sheered from the waiting room to the exam room. When I did not respond to his loud verbalizations he grew aggressive and said don't use his vet services again even though my hypothyroid dog requires daily medication and six month bloodwork monitoring which I have never missed for her. Do yourself a favour and ask for their other vet. This guy's a bust. I am a great pet owner with excellent care records for beloved dog Joseph of Ladner who passed away at from cancer and feline companion also adopted in Ladner. I am not sure what category Dr.Goldman falls into as a veterinarian but I certainly won't let him near my geriatric dog again. He is dangerous on the verge of mispractice. Likely Woodgrove will take down this review. Their business is already slow.

We trusted the vet with two of our beloved dogs over 14 years. This review concerns the second dog…read more Fergus had been looked after by Jeff for 10 years since he arrived in our home at 3 months old. Annual physical exams., vaccination updates, spaying, tooth extraction were all carried out at Woodridge Animal Hospital. Fergus really like Jeff. I had been in hospital for three weeks and when I returned home in October, it was obvious that Fergus was losing weight. His annual physical was in November and, apart from the weight loss, Fergus was lively and eating well. We decided to wait until November to see the vet for his annual physical. Fergus was duly examined and Jeff declared that he was healthy and 'had a few good years yet' and that the weight loss was inconsequential. It became obvious by January that Fergus was unwell and he had a senior blood profile which was normal, apparently. He then began to have difficulty urinating and also seemed constipated. The following week, he returned to the vet for x-rays and we were called back to see the results, which gave us a sense of foreboding. The x-rays showed a large tumour blocking off his bladder and bowel. He was given 2-3 days to live and euthanasia was suggested. He was brought home for a last night and many photos, and the next day we had him put out of his misery. We were not prepared to let him suffer. We are devastated at the loss of our beloved Scottie companion, Fergus of Fanagmore.

Our 8 year old shih tzu / bichon cross developed an ear infection which was really bothering him…read more There was a lot of discharge which was quite smelly. Our regular vet had no openings and after phoning a few locations, we were finally able to get Bailey attended to. The front-end staff were very attentive, asking the necessary questions and our appointment was right on time. After the vet saw Bailey she spent about 10 minutes explaining everything to us - what kind of infection it probably was, which foods to avoid and how to administer the meds prescribed. Quite refreshing to find someone willing to take this kind of time - we didn't feel rushed at all. Checkout was also a breeze. Overall, a great experience:)

In preparation for a minor dental procedure, Petroglyph was told that my cat was diabetic 10+ times…read more(by myself and his primary vet) and they still managed to give me the wrong fasting instructions. They gave me the fasting instructions for a normal healthy cat, and as a result, he was given a full dose of insulin before going under for the procedure. This caused his blood sugar to drop dangerously low. Petroglyph put my cat at unnecessary risk, in spite of my best efforts to mitigate that risk. He had to have a Dexedrin IV drip and be closely monitored for hours to bring his blood sugar back up to a safe level. I will never bring my pets to this place in the future. When I told them I would not bring my cat back to them, the vet who worked on him became quiet and awkward, but not nearly apologetic enough in my opinion. If you have a diabetic pet, DO NOT trust these idiots with their care. If my experience is any indication, nothing good will come of it. I'm just grateful the outcome wasn't worse, as he could have easily died from their incompetence.
