High quality cuts in a locally owned and friendly barbershop. I was staying in Pensacola Beach for a few days leading up to a weekend wedding & took my fellow groomsmen & the groom to get haircuts at Bensons. I'm afraid to admit it but most of us get "efficiency haircuts" at our local great clips & rarely ever seek out a quality barber to make us look the best that we can be. Not knocking great clips as I still would go there, but it's just a different kind of haircut as opposed to having an expert in men's hair fixing you up. Myself and two of the groomsmen already had a haircut a day or two before but after seeing how well the groom's hair looked after Amanda cut him we let them work on us as well. The straight razor neck shave was great & a service I hadn't received in the past at my hometown barbers in Tennessee. In addition to making us all look fresh the staff here gave us plenty of tips on where to dine & have fun while in town. We took their advice & visited Sidelines & Peg Leg Pete's on the following days. If I ever found myself back I'd get cut here again for sure. read more

This is an "old fashioned" barber shop in every good way. The barbers are experienced and friendly. The shop is clean and spacious. And I always get a great haircut. I was fed up with the quick clip shops that have different stylists every time I go in, and are so inexperienced that they only know how to cut hair by clipper number. Really great spot and a fab local find while on vacation. Had to get the kid's hair attended to and found this spot tucked into a shopping center nearby. Really professional service and set up, it's clear these guys know how to run an efficient and courteous business with a good balance of walk-ins and regulars. Great cuts with precision and detail, exactly to the customer's liking (I watched several other customers give very specific details on their cut...all handled masterfully). As a walk-in, you just sign your name on the board of your barber of choice, or on all the boards if you're open to the options. Their individual hours and break times are posted so you can manage your timing expectations. Call-ins are also welcome and get noted on the board as well. It's all pretty democratic and efficient. Comfy waiting area and a super clean place...love how much pride they take in their business. Wish I could find a place like this in my own neighborhood. read more

I've been to lots of barber shops since I moved to Florida, but this one is the best bar-none. My barber is Paul and he is great. We have great chats while he cuts my hair. He takes the time to cut my hair pristine and makes sure every little hair is cut to perfection, a real professional. The other day my facial hair was out of whack and I didn't want to mess it up anymore, so I called Paul. He told me to come in and he would fix it, only charged me $5 for this trim. Also the location is prime because surprisingly there are not many barber shops in Gulf Breeze. The vibe in the shop is stellar, lots of things to see and look at while you get your hair cut. Call ahead of time and get your name on the board. Easy peezy. The only drawback is the price is really high for the area ($20 + tip), but you know what they say, you get what you pay for. Pay a few extra dollars and go with the best barber shop this side of the bridge. read more

I just moved to this area and was looking for a reputable barbershop to cut my hair. As a female with very short hair, I find that barbers are best because they are use to cutting short hair. It's what they do-mostly short hair. UNFORTUNATELY, this barbershop is sexist and male chauvinistic. Apparently women are not good enough to get a haircut there. Starting from the awkward greeting as I entered for the first time ever and was looking around to see if I needed to sign in somewhere or what barber I wanted to see. This guy says "Do you need your hair cut"...seriously? This is a men's barber shop. Then the haircut I got was definitely less than stellar. A$20 haircut should at least look halfway decent. Dropped my 13 yr old grandson off for a haircut. He didn't want me to come in with him because ...well, I'm an old lady. He's been in Benson's many times previously but was way overdue for a cut. He had some idea of the length to be used for clippers but the top should have been cut with scissors. Some new guy cut his hair and just buzzed it all off. I went in last week and had a great experience. They are a pretty busy place. But there was plenty of space to sit, lots of good magazines to choose from to pass the time. And they moved through the customers pretty quickly. I think I waited 15 minutes. It didn't feel rushed though when I was sitting in the chair. My barber took his time and gave me a great cut, and polished the experience with a razor around the neck and ear line. I'll definitely go here when I'm in town again. read more

I walked in and these guys were super cool . The guy that cut my hair told me about Pensacola and things to try that I am interested in. He was better than my hometown barber at cutting my hair. As for the guy with the bad review, I understand the awkward entrance because I saw it when I came in. My barber does the same. These guys usually work on commission and if there is more than one chair open , then they make it a point not to persuade the customer to one chair or another. They have a weird system of putting your name on the board of who you want to cut your hair. I put my name on the board for one of the barbers. Someone came in after me and put his name on the board. He got served first. I wasn't in a hurry so I didn't get upset. Then it happened two more times. I don't know if they take regulars first and then everyone else second, but their system sucks. Third time with Gabe today. Gabe is now officially my barber. I moved jobs and decided to switch barbers, because my old one was out of the way. In the mean time, I tried a few Supercuts hacks. Finally, I went to Benson's, and I drew Gabe out of the line up and hoped for the best. I'll just put it this way, Gabe is a craftsman barber, not a stylist who also cuts men's hair for a quick buck. Benson's is $20 plus tip -- which you won't need any extra encouragement to tip if you go -- which is slightly higher than Supercuts, but well worth the extra $5. Instead of going to a bargain barbershop to get your haircut, go to Benson's and get your haircut by YOUR barber, shoot the shit, get faded up, straight razor and hot towel on the neck, talk about the weather, talk about sports, talk about the military, talk about women, talk about family, talk about the same shit you did two weeks ago, get a haircut like a man. I believe in loyalty with good service, so I now schedule with or ask for Gabe, but I haven't seen anyone walk out of there with a bad haircut, and wouldn't hesitate to get a haircut from any of the other barbers -- BARBERS, not "stylists" -- in there if I was in a pinch for a cut, and Gabe was unavailable. Everyone there has been very courteous and professional that I've seen. Gabe is a good guy, a veteran, and good at cutting men's hair. Benson's is a locally owned place, not a national chain.
