I've been a patient at Bent Tree Family Physicians in Frisco for over 5 years, and my experience has progressively gone downhill. Most recently, Veronica Dilworth insisted that I come back every three months just to get my blood pressure checked so she could continue prescribing medication. I have had this same condition for multiple years, and at every other practice I've ever been to, I was prescribed a full year of medication without unnecessary follow-ups. Never in my medical history have I been required to return every three months for something this routine. This felt less about patient care and more about keeping patients on recurring billing cycles. Additionally, my in-room experience with Veronica Dilworth was honestly just okay at best, in fact, very mediocre and nothing that would make me want to continue care with her anyway. There was nothing exceptional or confidence-inspiring about the interaction - something you'd like to see in medicine. Unfortunately, this isn't an isolated issue. There have been multiple billing-related incidents over the years that strongly suggest unethical billing at this practice. Another major red flag: constant staff turnover. In over five years as a patient, I have never once seen the same doctor or practitioner consistently. Providers rotate frequently--either they leave, or just move out. That alone raises serious concerns. When no physician seems willing to stay long-term, it makes you wonder what's going on internally. Between unnecessary visits, questionable billing behavior, and nonstop provider turnover, I've completely lost trust in this practice. BEWARE. Take your business elsewhere. You'll likely receive better continuity of care--and more importantly your wallet will thank you. read more

Although I agree that the front desk staff can be hit or miss at times, I don't think that should take away from the overall quality of this practice. Bent Tree Family Physicians has the ability to perform most tests on site, which is incredibly convenient. Waste of time going there. I called previously to see how I can get a booster vaccination for something that I was missing, which they said they would be more than happy to give it as a walk-in. I asked if it would be covered by insurance as well, which they said it should as long as my insurance covers it, which it does. So sounded like no issues there. Well, I got there and they refused to give it no matter what, simply because I haven't done a physical with them. This would have been fine if they just be upfront about it instead of wasting people's time and telling them last minute that they can't do what they said they could. read more

This staff has a "oh wellz" attitude when they were the ones giving the wrong info to their patients. Their service has gone way down! As you can tell ... I'm not alone. I have been going to Bent Tree for many years but wanted to write about a specific outstanding experience I had today at the North Dallas office. My adult daughter with Autism was seen by Jill the amazing PA for a concern I was having. Jill quickly determined that concern was not a problem but went the extra step to notice some other issues, listen patiently to my explanations, understand potential relationships between multiple items, and suggest (and thoroughly explain) treatment options. Being the parent of a child with special needs can be challenging, so I was very grateful to Jill for the care, time and advice she gave for a holistic approach to my daughter's care. Well...I'm not alone. Should have looked at the reviews beforehand. My wife and I started coming here about three years ago after moving to the North Frisco area and the proximity of the office to our work locations. That was a mistake. Unfortunately while the care we have received from our PA's has been sufficient, the customer service is just horrendous. Having seen multiple providers and specialists for other healthcare needs Bent Tree stands out as the worst by a long shot. Every time we schedule and provide our reason for the visit no information is provided to the PA. Recently I underwent emergency surgery for internal bleeding, and as part of my discharge from the hospital I was provided a treatment plan that included a follow up visit to my GP for symptom evaluation and lab work. When I called to schedule the appt, and provided the information of what happened to the front desk, I was told "that's okay, I just need your dob and can get you scheduled." Fair enough I thought. Then I showed up. Upon arrival, I was asked why I was there and that they didn't have any notes from my call. Okay, I can provide you the detail again. "Okay, You just sit down and we'll let the PA know." Great! Then I met with the PA. Why are you here? Excuse me? I've been over this multiple times...are there no notes? "No, I just see that you requested an appt. Are you feeling okay?" So I filled her in again. As I said, the PA's are fine, but the lack of communication is frustrating. I was then told that sometimes the hospitals recommend a GP follow up, and that they don't necessarily need to go to a GP or provide a reason for the visit. I get that, but that's why I provided the detail over and over again. After the exam and bloodwork I headed to the counter to checkout and pay for the visit. I was asked for my name and given the charges. While making payment, I mentioned the confusion and lack of communication. Not to be annoying, but to be constructive. I was then told by my first name that she didn't need to know about my situation and that she just needed payment so that I could be checked out. Unreal. If only I had that attitude with my customers. I certainly wouldn't be working long. I also have never been asked to schedule the next appt (which seems to bite my wife in the ass every time one of her prescriptions expires, that she only finds out about when trying to have them filled...but that's another story). Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I would think with something as important as our healthcare we deserve caregivers that actually care. Very disappointing. 2 stars. PA's have been sufficient. I've been a long term patient of Bent Tree and the customer experience has been going increasingly downhill! I was just fleeced for a $25 fee to transfer a prescription from one pharmacy to another. The prescription could not be filled due to back order and had to be rerouted (a key stroke) to another pharmacy and was told they could not do so without a payment of $25 "it's our policy". The money grab is unbelievable! Greed at its finest! I will not be returning, however I'm sure additional charges will apply when I request my medical records! read more

Office was highly recommended by my ob/gyn, but my experience was horrible. The front desk staff was great. Was scheduled with Dr. Garza but only saw a PA. I have lots of specialists and asked for assistance with coordinating treatments as I've been told that's what PCP are supposed to do in situations with complicated diagnosis. All they focused on was basic prescription refills and stated they don't coordinate care. Referred me back to my specialists that just referred me to PCP. I have been a patient at this clinic for the past 14 years. My review here is to express my concerns regarding the recent interactions I have had with the front office staff. First I would like to mention that I have always been highly satisfied with the medical care I received from Dr. Hedlund and Dr. Jones who are both no longer practicing physicians there. I received exceptional care from both of them and had positive relationships with them during my care at Bent Tree. However, the recent unprofessional behavior and treatment from the front staff, in particular Ms Fontella and the check out staff have left me very disappointed and frustrated. When I called to make an appointment a few months ago, I spoke to Fontella at the front desk. She informed me that Dr. Jones (my most recent doctor) had relocated, and my only option would be to see the physician assistant. I expressed my preference to be seen by an established doctor due to my age, symptoms and desire for continuity of care. Unfortunately, Fontella was rude, passive-aggressive, and unhelpful during our conversation. I subsequently requested to speak with the office manager, Mandy, and left her a voice mail message explaining my concerns. However, after a week and a few days of not hearing back from her which further added to my disappointment, I called the office again and left her another message. She returned my call a few days later and said she would look into it and ask my original doctor there, Dr. Garza if she would be open to taking new patients in. Another week went by and Mandy had Fontella contact me, which was disappointing since she was obviously not trying to help me from the very beginning. Fontella convey that Dr. Garza was not accepting new patients, leaving me with the only option to see the P/A. Regrettably, Fontella's demeanor remained rude, and once again I felt she lacked an empathetic approach to my situation. I have made multiple attempts to communicate with the director/owner of the clinic, Dr. Culpepper and the office management, including reaching out to Shelly Harpsell from HR, in hopes of bringing my concerns to his attention. However, my countless attempts and efforts to reach higher management in order to resolve this issue have been met with roadblocks. It seems that they don't want my concerns or complaint to reach the right person. I have always valued the medical care and the professionalism of the doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses and medical assistants at Bent Tree Family Physicians. However, the consistent rudeness and unhelpfulness displayed by the front office staff, particularly Fontella, have tarnished my otherwise positive experience as a long-term patient. This is the reason for my review. Today was my 6th attempt to get the director's email in order to discuss my concerns and explore possible resolutions. My hope was that improvements could be made to ensure that patients like myself could continue to receive high-quality care and respectful treatment. read more

I have been going to Bent Tree since moving to TX 9 years ago. Dr. Ferguson was great. Unfortunately, he retired and I had to consider another doctor. While setting my appointment with Dr. Bridwell for 2 ailments requiring X-Rays, I was told Dr. Bridwell will only discuss one ailment at a time, and I needed to decide which ailment was more troublesome and set a 2nd appointment. You may be thinking I misunderstood, or I caught this receptionist on a bad day, but no. He did the same thing to my wife, who will not go back. It's simply a money grab for additional insurance. Patient accessibility issues - started new medication by PCP and was told not to stop unless I discussed it with her. Well I was having some concerns around the side effects I was experiencing and had issues getting in touch with someone (anyone really - front desk, nursing staff, anyone who would be able to help). Finally received call back from nursing staff who I felt was very dismissive of my concerns and how I was feeling and said I would get a call back after she discussed with my provider. Well - no call back. Ended up seeking help elsewhere, who told me to stop taking the medication and going with a different medication. The concerns I had around how I was feeling should have been cause for concern for my PCP to AT LEAST call me back and discuss, but couldn't even get that. I was having an adverse affect to the medication and could have ended up in the ER. read more

Absolutely the best doctor, nurses: Mandy & Amanda as well as pleasant front desk staff. They have so much to offer in one building, tons of knowledge of medical community so referrals are top notch for bigger issues. As well, they work really hard to see you if an emergency and work long hours, often calling me back late in the evening to ensure I have what's needed. Thorough, listens to concerns, excellent advice and diagnosis- I couldn't be happier! If you're lucky enough to get into Bent Tree, it's like winning a mini lottery, only it's your health not wealth that's at stake! I've referred a few others and all feel the same! read more

Front desk doesn't know their own policies or how to use basic technology. It can be stressful when you need your own documents or information. They make you fill out an information sheet and never update it, so you'll make the same changes over and over. They are pretty good at appointments and treatment but they need help clerically. read more

Called to schedule an appointment (they don't have an online scheduling platform - 1st red flag). Lady who answered the phone immediately put me on hold for 6 minutes. Then when someone else answered, she asked for my DOB (I had already told the previous lady I was a new patient) so I told her I was a new patient, she asked who my insurance was, I told her anthem, she said "you mean bcbs" I said yes and she said they are not accepting patients with bcbs, she asked if I had a family member who goes there and I told her no, my OB referred me, her: no can't accept. Quite a long time to wait and be asked the same question twice. read more

If I can make an appointment during the day I will go here. But if I need something after hours because of my job, I go to Care Now. *If you are LGBT do not go here*. There were no questions about my sexual history, but when I mentioned my girlfriend, the physician asked if I was living "an alternative lifestyle". This language at best indicates that the physician is very uninformed (as it is universally accepted by every advocacy group that this language is a derogatory way to describe a gay/lesbian relationship), and at worst is an expression of homophobia. The advice I received about my sexual health also appeared to imply that the physician believed I was engaging in risky sexual behavior, despite never asking me if I was having (or have had) protected or unprotected sex, if I had other partners, and what kind of sex I was engaging in. The physician also didn't know about one of the most effective types of therapy for my mental health diagnosis, and did not inquire further when I tried to explain. They then insisted on a referral without listening to the full extent of my history, and how I am currently handling my mental health. They non-verbally seemed to disapprove of the fact that I do not use medication. I don't expect my GP to be totally knowledgeable on all aspects of mental health, but I do expect appropriate questions to be asked; so no assumptions are made and advice is given not given based on those. Dr. Garza may be fine if you live a "traditional" or "normal" lifestyle. But if you are anything other than that, I would avoid. read more

I called in advance and told them I wanted to get tested for hpylori. They told me okay and booked an appointment for me. Once I got here they told me at the end of my appointment that they don't do hpylori tests. Which is what I came for. I had to pay them $128 to send a prescription of heartburn medicine that I also have to pay for. They barely looked at me or asked what was wrong. They just wanted to get me in and take my money. I've been to this doctor office last year for a knee issue and the doctor have seen at that time was very professional. So, last month, I decided to go back to this doctors' office for a check up. The two nurses who took care of me were really young, one seemed to be "in training" with a very passive unprofessional attitude, trainer nurse was good. I got shocked when the nurses told me that "Keira" was about to come and see me ! I've never been to a Doctor's office where the doctor has been called by her/his first name, like a buddy ?!? After seeing the doctor that I found being barely "out of school", she told me she would call me with my blood work results .... I'm still waiting ... I understand that the young staff has to learn their job but this shouldn't affect the professionalism and quality of service. I am very disappointed, I will go back if needed to see the orthopedic doctor but will definitely find a more mature and professional place for my next medical needs. read more

Called to get more information on their covid testing. Asked three simple questions. They didn't know the answer to any of them and decided to hang up. Mandy is the person I spoke with 1. Do you use RT-PCR test? The answer was yes. Then pointed out that they have been banned by CDC and EUA has been revoked as of December 31 2021 - they had no answers and deflected the topic. 2. What is the cycle threshold for positive result? Didn't know and said this is a lab question. 3.; Do you publish the cycle threshold four positive tests? Didn't know. Said they don't have time for this and hung up on me. It's been almost two years and they don't know the answer to these basic questions. Consumers need to demand transparency and not act like lemmings. It's obvious that no one questions them on the basics of what they are doing. If they decide to respond, I would ask them to answer these three questions publicly and also make the answers available on their website. read more

I was diagnosed with diabetes 40 years ago as a young girl. This week I am more than happy to announce that I am finally at the BEST A1C (5.3!) I have ever been at as a diabetic! All thanks to Dr. Latta!!! She is diligent with her patient care, listens intently to concerns, and answers question after question when needed. Dr. Latta truly cares about her patients and their well-being. She's been my doctor for nearly 10 years, and I cannot imagine where I would be without her care. My mother lost her life to this disease at a young age and my father just recently had to go through an amputation because of it. I always thought my outcome would be similar to theirs, but thanks to Dr. Latta, I have hope that one day, I will be dancing at my grandson's wedding! I feel better than I have in so many years. We all see Dr. Latta in my family and she is the best. Patient, kind, well informed and great at listening to what our needs or concerns are. She is very detailed in all she does and does NOT try to push pills down your throat but will also be straight when it is necessary. I've been a patient of theirs for so many years, but today put me over the edge. Every time I've seen a new doctor, it usually goes one way or the other. If it's been bad, it's never been enough to get me this upset. But today they put me at a huge inconvenience. I take a specific medication to help me while I'm at work. I'm not a fan of physicals (but then again, who is?) and the only way for my medicine to be refilled is if I had a physical. The doctor I saw specifically said she wasn't worried about something she might have found but is still making me go see another doctor anyway, and won't refill my medicine. They won't write the prescription until they get the approval from the other doctor. When I told them I'm almost out, all she could tell me is well I guess you will have to make it last. Thanks for nothing. On top of that they neglected to tell me that my husband had a balance due. And they were about to charge me for an ekg. I'm already required to have these so why am I now getting charged for them?! They also for some reason won't change my last name in their files, when they know I'm married read more

Dr. Guy Culpepper and his staff are a World Class Act. His nurse Mandy is awesome too. I have been seeing Dr. Culpepper for 28 years. He is one of the finest doctors I have ever met. He is a Super Doctor expert in all fields. He has helped me with my heart, gynological, back everything I have ever had wrong with me. He is honest trustworthy and a very excellent doctor. All of his partners are of equal compentance. You will not be sorry visiting this Dr. Office. My son had Covid and he gave him the test that saved his life. I hope this helps someone! Cheers! Read the reviews; they are correct on the billing. This was the most frustrating experience I've had with a medical provider and their billing practices. I was a new patient and will never return. Billing practices are fraudulent, unethical, and misleading. Front desk team is completely incompetent (received about 5 confirmation calls, never introduced what doctor they're with when calling, can't explain billing).. Three main billing issues I experienced... 1. Smoking and tobacco cessation counseling added to the bill of a non-smoking patient. Bill details states counseling lasted 3-10 minutes. Patient is a non-smoker and was a 30 second interaction ("do you smoke or use tobacco?" "no"). After three months of trying with their office to have this removed from the bill, it was never removed and charged to insurance, as well as my co payment. 2. Extended hours service - If you make an appointment before a certain time in the morning, they charge you and do not tell you upon scheduling.When making an appointment, appointment times are discussed and scheduled as it normally would be with any service provider. There was not a mention of a "extended hours office service" charge when making an appointment. This was shown on my bill and charged to insurance. It was not clear upfront, hidden, and unethical. They removed it finally after three months of going back-and-forth and said many people have complained and they do a "courtesy removal" for these patients. 3. Non-transparent billing practices upon check-in. Two patients with the exact same appointment (new patient, yearly check-up) received drastically different bills. read more

I won't go back. Came in from an ER referral for a clot in my leg. Dr. Lao didn't even look at my leg the first time she was in the room. Sent me for a "stat" ultrasound and then didn't call with results until I kept calling. Even then, the physicians assistant handled everything. I had questions and the assistant would have to go find out from the doctor then call me back. No mention of follow up appointments. The Dr. clearly doesn't care about her patients. Horrible. It's not like I had a paper cut. I expect better treatment/compassionate care. read more

Our provider is great - the front office is anything but great. We were required to pay our visit in full - even though our office visit copay is only 25.00. In attempting to explain our copay to Fontella, she refused to allow us to speak (you can't miss her, she a very loud Amazon female) ... she refused to refund our money ... EVEN AFTER THE INSURANCE PAID LEAVING A 25.00 BALANCE .. our insurance called and spoke to Fontella and she still refused. We have to go through the process of contacting our provider relations department with the insurance who will then have to remind the crazy front office bítch that it is against contractual obligation to keep a patients overpayment. Not kidding - Fontella was "laughing" at our insurance representative when they attempted to resolve the issue ... read more

I chose Bent Tree when I moved here to the area for my primary care. They requested I get a full physical and blood work that was "covered by ins". I then received a bill for just under $1000 for the labwork! I tried to give them another shot and after working with a great Nurse Practitioner for some time they told me she "retired". There is never parking and when I ran 10 min late they made me reschedule even though I had waited almost 2 hours to be seen the prior appt. On my follow-up appt, they set me up with a PA that couldn't have been 25 y/o who had to leave the room to ask a DOCTOR what to do. There is no relationship building here, they want you to come back in as much as possible and will ask for many "follow-up" appointments. Save your time and $$$ and find a partner in your health...this place is not that. read more
