I have been going to this Salon for over 3 years and have never been disappointed. As far as specializing in Healthy Hair, Souiban is the Best. She knows her stuff and when I leave her shop my hair feels amazing. If you have thick natural hair I highly recommend Arnisa. I have visited this salon twice and here are my reviews of each visit. Visit #1: My first initial appointment was Arnisa being that I found her on Instagram she really impressed me with her work. She did such a wonderful job and she took great care of me. I felt so comfortable and welcomed with her I sent her a few referrals and they loved her as well. Visit #2: My second visit to the salon I booked with soiban and unfortunately I got her student assistants. It was the worst experience ever. The assistants did not have enough experience. They washed and conditioned my hair but they skipped detangling because they said they didn't know what type of hair I had. I came into the shop with an Afro and I made sure that my hair was combed through and detangled the night before my appointment. When it was time for my blow dry my hair was knotted and tangled for days. There were two assistants at once combing through my hair. I could feel my hair ripping out and could see clumps of hair everywhere. I ended up with a headache and had to tell them I only need one person combing through the tangles. At that moment I wanted to leave the salon and cry. My scalp was sore and my head was throbbing. I continued the service because I really wanted my hair cut for my birthday and I also did not want to leave the salon in anger or making a scene. When they finally took me over to Soiban's chair I was so uncomfortable. I had an audience of student assistants watching her cut my hair. I was not expecting this at all. Soiban was explaining what she was doing to my hair to the students while they talked about video games. She wasn't trying to get to know me as a client or talk to me. For the amount of money I paid I did not experience quality service. I really expected to enjoy my visit at the salon that I recommend to my family and friends to but unfortunately that did not happen. read more

Now i can say that i am a regular, which means every 2 weeks i got to do my hair. I got my hair done by the 2 hair stylists and both are very talented. The place is clean good product, and good conversation. Every time after getting my hair done i feel rejuvenated. read more

Worse experience I ever had, my natural hair was at bra length, and now it at ear length. She politely asks how long is your hair just to cut it off to get extra money. either though you told her you just want a color consultant for your hair. this was my first salon experience and I high disappoint. I have been seeing Sioban (the owner) since I moved back to San Antonio in 2018. Prior to my return I lived in Atlanta, Houston, and Memphis. If you know anything about hair (namely African American hair), you know some of these cities are the MECCA of getting your hair LAID! I found Damalia Hair Studio on Instagram, I was in search of someone who could understand my hair and how temperamental and fragile it is and work with it. She has done just that! I have a very high stress job and that stress carries itself straight to my hair. She has not only been nursing my hair back to a healthy state, she has also listened to me vent, cry, and unload my life on her without judgment. There was a time where she had students in her salon, trying to teach them how to be not only better stylists but better business women. I think this was different for people, and I will admit at first I was hesitant of having someone that wasn't Sioban do anything with my hair, but we all have to start from somewhere, and honestly if Sioban were to ever leave San Antonio I would want someone who has learned under her to do my hair. I mean how many stylists do you know who are trying to teach the next generation of stylists (You can't really think of many now can you). Prior to COVID-19 I was in the salon every Saturday. During COVID-19 I was left to my own devices, but sent Sioban messages almost every week for hair advice, and there she was with sound advice. When I heard the governor was opening the salons back up I was ecstatic, but I knew many salons would not open up immediately because they were still trying to get all of the safety certifications they needed, and trying to put a protocol in place to keep clients safe. She reached out to all of the people who had appointments during the time of the closure and got them scheduled on days she works and days she doesn't. Upon entering the salon, you have to get your temperature taken, answer a questionnaire, wash your hands, and stay masked the entire visit, and she is now only taking one client at a time. It's much different than what it was previously, usually the shop would be abuzz with honestly just 2-3 clients at a time. Reading some of the reviews namely about dishonesty- That's far from the truth, if you follow her Instagram page she posts almost every day even when she isn't in the shop to keep herself on the Instagram News Feed page. First experience was good. I had been looking for someone to cut curly hair and I was I excited to keep going back to this salon. I guess after my first appointment they set one up 6 weeks out, which was fine, if it didn't work I would just reschedule. After a couple months I forgot I even agreed to an appointment (no confirmation, no email, no text or reminders) so I scheduled a haircut thinking I would be set. I called at 6 am on Saturday (my appt was at 7 am) to just make sure everything was confirmed before I drove 30 minutes and I had received no confirmation prior to that. The lady told me it was. I got there and they couldn't find me in the system. I was then told I was cancelled by the salon because I owed a no call no snow fee. WHAT?! I didn't even know about that. I am never the type of person do that. Forget the huge fee. The fact that I had called and was told I was good to come in at 7 am just for them to tell me I was cancelled?! They couldn't email me or notify me? I was so confused! The process was unprofessional and the lack of communication was even worse. There's nothing more frightening than trying to find a new hairstylist. Well I was more than delighted with my decision to come here. I was able to get a same-day appointment the salon was clean the owner is extremely friendly and open, and the prices are reasonable. I feel like I got an early birthday present when I found Siaban.
