I took my sick bishon here for medical treatment and due to covid couldn't enter and within 3 mins the vet comes out to parking lot and informs us that our dog is very sick and she feared he wouldn't make it and had to administer fluids right away and to our surprise within 2 mins two young ladies came out with our dog and a IV bag that was not attached to our dog which she just handed to me and they quickly actually ran away but not before charging me $180.00 for about 7 minutes and not even taking test .We left to the vet hospital and were astounded how unprofessional and the fact that no compassion was shown. read more

Will never bring my babies back there again. I had an appointment at 11:00 and received a call at 11:09 from them. I was in the parking lot and was told I had to reschedule. My dog was shaking in the car and was uncomfortable. On my way there, there was a closure at 34 and had to reroute. I told the nasty receptionist that I was outside and there was a closure, and she didn't care. She told me I had to reschedule. I've spent thousands of dollars in there and expected a little more tolerance. Im never late bringing my pets, and most times I'm waiting anyway. Not the same since Dr. Berg sold. I brung my dog in for choking on ground beef n the last 5 yrs this was my dogs regular check up n vaccination place They said bring her to red bank after taking me in xrays charges 3 in total chest n throat I go to red bank no help they recommend I put down my healthy dog I refuse pay a lot of money for no help took my dog home got her bttr in days her breathing went back to normal they claimed they saw a mass they wasn't sure if it was cancer or what was stuck in her throat They said I can put my dog on antibiotics n steroids with no clue of the side effects Months later if putting my dog on steroids we bring our dog back to berg hospital and made it easy for them n said our dog is peeing n eating n drinking a lot maybe she has diabetes or cushings our dog lost a pound of weight they took her blood billed us and of course she don't got diabetes or cushings we find out they nvr checked for cushings they just wanted to run more tests to maximize there profits instead of running a complete blood work right there n checking our dogs record that she was prescribed perdisone and checking for liver disease or addisons they did not DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE they even blamed us for not running more tests $$$$ because they refused to be cost effective with the symptoms presented Katie called us and kept saying you refused to pay for more testing and actually had a attitude and was very sarcastic when I said it's not funny she got upset and started crying completely in denial even the a doctor that we spoke too. i was a client for 5 years , my beloved dog and companion was ill , she was referred to a surgeon , the surgery amounted to 6 thousand dollars , i couldn't afford it ,so i did my research and brought her to a different hospital for the surgery (at a bit less of the original cost (5k) ,unfortunately the surgeon is 2 hrs away , since berg has been my veterinary practice for so long i thought they would give me the courtesy to assist me right ? even if not with services, but maybe as a guide since they claim to care about you and your pet , well THEY DO NOT CARE ONE BIT unless its in a debit card or credit card # . i ended up pulling my pup drain on my own it wasn't brain surgery . and it was fine . after that she needed some more antibiotics because she had licked the surgery spot and gotten infected i called them again fully aware that they didnt do the surgery but since they are my regular drs to see if they could help . they didn't, the same receptionist who decided she couldn't help the first time , decline me for the second request . a receptionist has more authority than a doctor in that practice . We have been taking our fur babies to Berg Animal hospital for over 17 hrs. I can not imagine going elsewhere. Each vet and vet tech has always been very intensive to our needs and what's best for our pets. Dr Montekio is such a blessing, we love her and our dogs are very comfortable with her. Lord knows we have been there more frequently as our 16 ur old was diagnosed with Cushings disease a few years ago, and then the unexpected blow to our hearts he developed cancer. Berg has always been available for last minute appts needed for him over last few months of his life. And Dr Montekio has handled our boy so very honestly and so gentle, it put us at ease when explaining his issues and what should be done and what we didn't need extra for him. He deteriorated so quickly within a week, and she did warn us it would happen. So the night he lost his mobility and was not able to stand, running dangerously high fever and crying in pain, they answered the phone early in morning hours so she could check him out. We knew it was his time, and we promised it would be done at home surrounded by his loving family. She gave him some pain meds to calm his pain while they gave us info for at home services. In which the person who contacted us back immediately and said she would be over in a couple hours. When she arrived, our dog remembered her as she was his vet when he was younger. It made the heart breaking process very softly and very calming for our beloved son as well as us. Her bedside manner was so caring and warming, and it was quick painless and so very peaceful. We rescue senior chihuahuas and always bring in our new ones for wellness check ups to get onto their system, and I absolutely LOVE the ladies at front desk. For knowing us and our many many visits, they have always be so accommodating to both our pets and us. When we received the call that our beloved son who passed was at the office to pick up his ashes, the ladies cried with me as they have known him just as long. They care so much about each and every pet who comes in, and I can't thank them enough for all the years of being so gentle with each of our 5 dogs (3 cats). We highly recommend berg animal hospital for your pets needs. I can say enough how grateful for them and Dr Montekio for her caring help and everything she has done for us. Hopefully in a few weeks we will show up with another senior chihuahua rescue to get a full exam and introduce him/her to the best Drs and care. I want to thank every single staff member and vet techs, and Drs for all the years of caring for our pets! I cannot express how great they have been since day one when even Dr Berg himself was still practicing. They killed my cat. If I could give zero stars I would. Brought my cat in because she was hemorrhaging. She needed surgery to stop the bleeding. Procedure was going to be an emergency hysterectomy. The doctor that did the procedure stitched it her up incorrectly, leading to internal bleeding. As I was waiting to get my cat post op (they didn't call me at an agreed upon time) they told me that they had to reopen my cats wounds to stop internal bleeding, that she suffered blood loss and needed to be taken to the emergency vet in Red Bank. Needless to say my cat didn't make it. Avoid this place and find a modern facility. I've since moved to Bayshore Veterinary Hospital in Holmdel. Needless to say it is a huge improvement. Clean (NO SMELL), bright interior, sincerely nice staff. read more

This is an older review (written in 2010) that I realized never got posted on here for some reason, but I feel it should be known. I have been bringing my dog to Berg for 12 years, since he was a puppy. I also began bringing my cat there 5 years ago. However, I am currently seeking a new veterinarian, and am having all of my animals' records pulled from Berg ASAP. In March of this year, my happy, playful, energetic 12-year-old dog collapsed very suddenly in the middle of a walk, after having a black stool. I called Berg to get the emergency numbers they provide (because it was after hours) and ended up rushing Chuck to the emergency hospital in Iselin (which was like the 5th circle of hell FYI - please don't even subject your animals to that place). They did basically nothing after keeping us for 4 hours, and told me to follow up with Berg in the morning. First thing in the morning I called and brought Chuck in to Berg, and we were there literally all day, from 9am to 6pm/7pm. They ran a million tests, did x-rays and an ultrasound, and still found NOTHING to explain why my dog was bleeding into his intestines. They were incredibly sloppy when they shaved him for the ultrasound, nicking him in several places. They sent me home to wait at that time, and told me they would call within the hour. 4 HOURS LATER I finally got someone to speak to me. I kept calling and being blown off, even though they knew very well how upset and worried I was for my Chuck. Finally someone spoke to me and told me they still found nothing, and referred me to Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls. So basically, after an entire day of NOTHING, they ended up sending us to GSVS anyway! What a huge waste of both mine and Chuck's time (and a ridiculous amount of money). The other thing that they kept doing all day that angered me to no end was saying to me "Well, he IS 12 years old." As if they means I should just give up?? Horrible, HORRIBLE way to treat patients. In the time that we spent waiting around at Berg, Chuck got progressively worse. If they would have referred us to GSVS immediately, perhaps Chuck would not have nearly died. Because when we got him to GSVS after an entire day of nothing at Berg, I wasn't given much hope. He needed a blood transfusion, was weak and not eating. They had to do an additional ultrasound because the quality of the one that came from Berg was so muddled they couldn't see anything. I was basically told that there was a very good chance Chuck would die, and they didn't have an explanation or a diagnosis. Chuck was in the hospital for a week, had a blood transfusion and fluid treatment, and eventually was stable enough to bring home with medications and a special diet. However, I firmly believe, had we gotten him to GSVS more quickly, instead of wasting an entire day at Berg, his treatment could have begun sooner and he could've started recovering that much sooner. I will never go back to Berg. When I called to tell them that, and to explain why, I was met with resistance and attitude, and they refused to release my animals' records to me so I could bring them to a new vet. After 12 years coming here, I am so disappointed and disillusioned - and still angry at the way we were treated, both human and dog. read more

I have been taking my Ginger to Berg since 2008 and my Rosie since 2013. It pains me to say this but I am very displeased with the level of service I have received lately. My poor Ginger had a bump next to her nipple and all the Vet said was "Well, it could be something or it could be nothing. It will cost you $1,000 to remove it." What kind of diagnosis is that? Then, when I tried to get pet insurance on my Ginger, the pet insurance company needed a diagnosis on the bump that Ginger had. The Vet refused to give a diagnosis, even after I asked if the Vet could do a needle aspiration on the bump to "diagnose" what the problem is. The Vet made it sound like that doing the needle aspiration was a waste of her time because she can't truly get a true result from doing the aspiration. The Vet insisted the bump be removed. My concern was why should I cut my dog up if I don't need to? With today's technology, they can tell if a lump in a women's breast needs to be removed or not and you mean to tell me they can't do the same thing for a dog? Poppycock I say!! I didn't want to believe all the bad reviews on the internet about Berg Animal Hospital but, based on my experience, they are all true. Berg Animal Hospital is just money hungry and when confronted on their pricing, they claim they are comparable to the other Vets in the area. SO NOT TRUE!! I researched other Vets and found one that is cheaper plus the new Vet that I chose really cares about the well-being of the animal - NOT THE MONEY!! In addition, the new Vet offers more services such as Sunday hours and home visits. I am absolutely disgusted with Berg Animal Hospital and will no longer use them for the care and well-being for my two dogs. It's a shame really......... read more

The office staff is friendly, Dr. Montekio is the best! Sometimes you have to wait a bit, but it's for good reasons. They explain things really well and answer any questions or concerns you may have. They are great with my fur babies and understanding when we have to bring my toddler with us to the visits. Seriously, I've seen many vets over the last 10+ years with my lab and newer catahoula puppy and I have to say she is the BEST! If we move out of state, I will convince my husband to see use them because I trust them that much. the worst vet experience I have ever had. First they left me waiting in the room for about 30 min. Keep in mind there were no other animals in the place(for a sat I thought that was weird). Than when the Dr finally came I explained what my cat was going through I got a condescending answer. The fun didn't stop there, my cat was very upset and swiping and hissing. So instead of doing what any other vet I have went to would do which is wrap the cat up and hold her down they gave her a pain killer. They than threw a towel over my cat and left the room to wait for the pain killer to kick in. Dr returned 15 min later and my cat was still upset they decided to use a sedative. My cat finally knocked out they take her in the back. They come back and the DR tells me she decided that she should have a rabe shot told me it was a judgment call on her part (that I will be paying for). They tell me the diagnoses and than tell me I should change my cats food to hypoallergenic food that of course they sell. The Dr tells me they will give me a free sample. I goto pay they bring out big bag of food and said they where out of free samples(of course they where). They ring me up and I got hit with the biggest bill I have ever gotten at a vet half of which pertains to them not being able to handle my cat. Bottom line avoid this place. read more

Over the past month I have spent $1500 at this vet and my cat still isnt doing well!To start I waited over an hour for my first apt and they had taken a couple who was there a 1/2 hour after me before me. I was pushed into leaving my cat there for days. The first vet told me my cat was critical and anemic. The second vet I spoke to told me she wasnt anemic. I had asked if we could just keep her on meds and not do a ultra sound but again i was pressured into it, making me feel like im a bad pet mom but the truth is I couldnt afford it. when I wanted to take her home a day earlier then I paid for the vet looked at her watch and said I wouldnt get a refund for the day. I didnt care about the refund I wanted my cat home! The $25 a day is nothing compared to all the other money they scamed out of me! My kittys meds started to run low and I had called the vet to see if I could purchase more until I have the money to have her blood checked! I was told I can get anymore until the cat has a blood test. So the next week I bring her for the blood work and she doesnt want to do it because she has been off the meds... ummmm you should have some common sense in order to be a vet!!!!! anyway! I purchase more meds and a week later take her again and she was improving a bit! When it was time to refil the meds the dr changes it and the cat goes downhill again!!!! I have had it with this vet! not to mention I had left many messages for the owners son and never recieved a call back and everytime i was there for an appt I had to wait an hour or more!!!
