We waited a bit outside - maybe about 15 minutes before we were given a table. Our waitress was great, but it was very obvious that they had a lot of tables to take care of in the extremely giant beer hall. If you need anything after you order and in between getting your food and paying, you'll need to wait a while. That being said, I think we're just used to extremely fast service in NYC. I had the Pork knuckle which was a whole roasted pork knuckle with home-made dark beer sauce and potato dumpling. We also had the Crispy roast pork with home-made dark beer sauce and potato dumpling. Both were excellent and the beer was also quite good. I had their signature wheat beer and then an Oktoberfest beer (because why not) and really enjoyed it. I do think I liked their signature wheat beer better, and would've gotten another one of those over the Oktoberfest one.

Had a weis and a traditional Schneider while there. (Short beers). If you can find seating, outside in a beautiful day can't be beat. Service was good.

The tour organizers provided a lot of great detail about how to reach the brewery, noting that it's a 30-minute walk from the nearest train station to the brewery itself, which is in a semi-secluded part of town. Our group was small that day, only one other couple and a family of five. Our guide, Tancredi, was very pro-Hofbrau (which you'd expect), and very anti-any other German brewery, which was kind of disappointing. I mean, poo-poo'ing a brewery we'd just said we're fans of probably isn't a good idea, but I get he wanted to get his brand across. The tour itself was pretty normal. We got to see the process and the machines and the ingredients in store rooms. It's a working brewery, so it was loud both inside and outside. The strange thing is, Tancredi chose to forgo the headphones for the tour, since we were small, but I think the headphones would have come in very handy. I gave up trying to crowd around him for a chance to hear what he was saying about 15 minutes in, and focused on taking pictures. Mostly pictures of my husband being totally engrossed by the tour, haha. We were with Tancredi for almost 2 hours, and got one small pour of a brew right from the source. And we didn't even get to keep the glass! The tour was 10 Euro per person, and must be paid in cash at the start of the tour. You're required to sign in in the lobby, and wear both a reflective vest and eye protection throughout the tour. It was interesting to visit a German brewery, but I doubt we'd go back on our next trip to Munich. The walk to and from the location was nice, though, so that was a bonus.

Beer culture is deeply entrenched in Germany, complete with a 500-year old beer purity law,…read moreReinheitsgebot, that strictly limits a beer's composition to only water, barley, and hops, beer's most basic ingredients. Its continuing legacy manifests as an astonishing German loyalty to their own beers, the scarcity of foreign beers, and the long shadow it casts on any domestic craft brewing. Still, if you look, microbrews exist and Tap House is a great place to find some. Modeled after American craft beer pubs, it captures the style in a dark wood look, with an impressively long bar alongside a row of bar-high tables with benches. The nearly two dozen taps heavily feature Camba Bavaria beers, a prolific domestic craft brewer that not only experiments with innovative and decidedly un-German styles, but also brews classic German styles consistent with Reinheitsgebot. Other taps and the extensive bottle list feature European microbrews, offering a wide range of styles, including sours. There's a good Belgian classics section, and a few Mikkeller's from neighboring Denmark. All served in appropriate glassware. Food and snacks are basic and unremarkable. The "tapas" platter is a bread/pretzel basket and six jars of accompaniments: prosciutto, pepperoni, slaw, diced tomatoes/onions, and two dips. Pizza was light, essentially thin flatbread. Peanuts, in a generous portion, came in a paper cone. Chips are a bag of chips, balsamic vinegar-flavored. Well worth visiting for a break from classic German beer styles to try some German microbrews, but aside from a snack, plan on eating elsewhere.

I stopped by here by myself maybe around 6pm on a Monday and was seated at a table because the bar was full, but told I only had an hour since they were full for reservations. That was totally fine and knew I wouldn't be more than that. If you are coming here with other people, you definitely need to make a reservation. The servers are dressed in traditional German clothes which is a very cool touch. Everyone I spoke to also spoke English. I ordered the schnitzel and whichever beer they recommended with it. I am typically NOT a beer person, but of course I had to try one and whatever this was, was very good. The schnitzel was so crispy and also very delicious. Highly recommend this place!!

The service at Haufbrauhaus was terrible. I ordered a seasonal beer and it was fantastic and the outside seating was wonderful on a perfect day. Our server was awesome and spoke perfect english. I ordered the charcuterie board and it had a couple of hummus scoops and a beef stick and this scoop of stuff that was way too rich for me with pieces of butter in it, but the Germans love it. The pretzels that came with it were great and the cream cheese scoop went perfectly on the pretzel. One of the best meals in Munich, give it a try.
