The staff is A+ and always eager to assist. If they dont have something you're looking for, they will get it! A good amount of seating is available if you want to sit for a while with a book, newspaper, magazine or your own computer. I never tried their wifi (normally use my own hotspot), but understand it's easy and good. So happy there is an excellent library on Daniel Island.

Three other libraries are…read morecloser to my home, and with ILL and transfer between branches, I can read any book I want without having to travel downtown to pick it up. This library is massive and reminds me of the library at my state university (years ago), while the other libraries in the system are more like "neighborhood" branches. This may be the flagship library, but every branch is impressive. Another fun fact is that the Main Library branch serves as an early voting location during election season. Ballots and books are two of my favorite things, and I'm glad the library does its part to serve democracy. I thought I'd have to drive around for a parking spot or park in a nearby garage. Not true- there's parking on the ground level, your first hour is free, and it's super easy to get in and out. The Main library is also open on Sundays from 2-5 PM, and it's the only branch with Sunday hours. Since Sunday isn't as busy downtown, it's a great time to explore this branch.

If CCPL doesn't have the book you want, they can get it for you and to the branch most convenient to you. Besides that, the library is a fun 'third place' to be away from home or work, and everything is free (minus printing, which is super cheap). The library is very busy with students after school hours. If you want a very quiet environment, come during the school day or later in the evening (after 6:00 PM). I am so glad to have this branch close to home.

I was able to grab my book and check out quickly. This was my first time placing a book on hold but it will not be my last! Lots of computers in the middle and a few tables that are free to study and work on. The shelves seemed quite sparse of books which was a bit concerning, especially in such a prosperous neighborhood like Mount Pleasant. What really irritated me though was the noise. This is the noisiest library I have ever been to. I had 2 gentlemen having a conversation at the table next to me as if in a coffee shop. There was also a tutor having a session with a student at another table. Even the librarians were talking at full volume to people who came in. If I have to put earbuds in and play white noise in a library thats too loud. I know they had small side rooms for such situations. Please please please be more quiet.

Not a bad place to HEAR a chamber performance, although visual sightlines are non-existent unless you snag a near front row seat. So I traveled and paid the parking to return the book. At soon as I entered the entrance, I was stopped abruptly by asking a tag to enter. I said I just need to return the book and I showed her my institute id. She said " actually return the book right here!!!!' I might misunderstand her, but if I were told that I just need to return the book to the guard and it would be less shocking to me.

Like a self-checkout at the supermarket, it's great for the introverts that don't want to have a conversation. Story time rooms, education rooms, computers with educational games, reading nooks in the windows, beautifully designed book shelves and displays, a cool "shark room" which was a reading area with dome windows all around with sharks displayed and a lovely outside area to read. The staff was very helpful and patient with the kids. They helped with the scavenger hunt that they had for children and went over different programs and events they had coming up. It's a little bit of a hike for us, but we will continue going there. My daughter absolutely loves it and tells everyone about it.

This is the newest, at least to my knowledge, of all of the Charleston County Library buildings…read more This replaces an old dark brick building that stood there for many years and was elevated such that it required you to go up a set of stairs. This new building however is modern, airy and enough windows high up to let in natural light and thus give warmth to the building and its inhabitants. I was there not to check out any books but went straight to the community room where probably 100 people could sit although we probably had 80 people for the safe sanctuary for religious organizations regarding terrorism and loan attackers. The three and a half hours that we all were there were in a comfortable room with a large pull-down screen where laptop computers could cast slides and information up on the large screen. It was an informative meeting made even more special by the wonderful building of this Library location.
