They don't know what they are doing. It's a total waste of time and money. I scheduled an appointment for Australia visa health examination for my dad. When I called to make an appointment, I repeatedly asked the representative what exactly do I need to bring and prepare. She only mentioned about two passport photos and a valid passport. She also sent me a checklist in email. However, when I got to the appointment, they suddenly said a non family member is required for translation service if my dad cannot understand English. It is not on the list, and the representative did not say anything on the phone. I asked if they can refer to a translator if I could not be the one, they said they cannot. All they can do is to cancel the appointment and absorb the appointment deposit. It is definitely a scam. They made up an absorb requirement that is impossible to achieve when you arrive at the appointment time. It apparently is their strategy to make money for doing nothing. I was a patient here around 2 years ago, and it was fine and I thought everything was good up until I had a little incident. back in 2021, I was in severe pain, had trouble breathing and everything and I would come and see Dr. Julie Goo almost every week for around a month. The last time I saw her she claimed I was doing much better. I ended up in the ER a couple of days later and was told I was very lucky I came in on time or else it would've gotten way worse. Right after I left that hospital I never went back here and I don't suggest going there either. Unless the other doctors are good not sure but the people at the front desk were absolutely rude and horrible to my mother and I, every time we'd ask for them to send a referral over they would take so long and we'd have to call to remind them every other day. I am writing to explain the situation I had in my family doctor's office. I called Tuesday (6/27) to set an appointment with the doctor for several reasons I explained to the receptionist:  1) Cough due to a cold that I got from my 2-years son (likely from the daycare) that led me to have a serious pain in the ear and cough. 2) Having recurrent drop in blood sugar in the past months. 3) General check up to follow up past high cholesterol blood tests. The Receptionist told me that given the reasons for the appointment it would be better to have an -in-person visit, which I agreed to. Then the appointment was set up. In order to be on time for the visit, I had to leave my job early and ask my wife to pick our son from the daycare. Then, when I arrived at the office, the receptionist (not sure if she was the same that responded to my call) asked me if I had cold symptoms, and I explained that yes. I told her that it was one of the reasons for being there, but not only that one. She asked me if I did a COVID test and I said no. Then she asked me to stay out and she went to ask the practitioner. After some minutes she came back and said that the visit wouldn't be in person and would be virtual. I obviously didn't accept it for the following reasons: - I feel it is very disrespectful and cares very little for your patients when asked to leave the office for having a virtual appointment while already there. I wonder if I would be American and not an immigrant, if they would do the same. - Previously, in other visits, they asked me to do virtual even if I wanted to go to the office and I accepted, but this time, the in-person visit was suggested by the doctor office person. - One of the main reasons for having an in-person appointment is to look at the painful ear and see if there is any infection, that is something that can't be done virtually. - I am a person that has always been vaccinated (also in the doctor's office) against the COVID, with the four recommended shots. I was wearing a mask during my visit to the doctor's office. They attend people with the doors open. I do not understand why they keep having this policy as we were in the middle of the pandemic. - Sadly I have been visiting the pediatric office with my son several times in the last 2 years and when something is related to a cold, they do a covid test and after 15 minutes and confirming it is negative, they allow us to enter, why don't they do the same? - The receptionist told me that the in-person visit would be after the virtual appointment. It is pretty funny to see how they tried to get paid twice for the same visit.  To sum up, it is very sad to see the decline in the assistance in this office. It has been my family doctor's office for the past 7 years, but in the last 2 years years the assistance has been very poor. What will happen if my symptoms get worse in the following days-weeks? It is pretty disappointing to see how little they care about the person and how much they want to get multiple visits and get paid the copayment and by my insurance. read more

I really don't understand why this place has so many bad reviews. Reading all the stuff on yelp made me a bit apprehensive, but since this is the only place in northern California that does Immigration medicals, I booked anyway. Had a smooth and easy process. The girls on the phone were very helpful, (the only thing that did happen was them forgetting to send me a confirmation email for the appointment but was easily resolved). Dr. Fitzer was both professional and friendly. The whole thing was submitted right after my appointment and I got my Visa 2 days later. i was going here for many many years until 2014, when I moved out of the state. i don't even remember all my doctors, but the last two - Dr. Iman (spelling?) and Dr. Wang. Dr. Iman saved my life - but unfortunately he went crazy a couple years later and left the practice. Im not joking, either - the man lost his mind. I used to share jokes with him and he would be so amused - then he started sharing his jokes... racist jokes. i actually asked him one time if he realized that I was Black.... Anyway, that was the least of his kookines after a while. He would just "tell you" with no examination that you needed or didn't need medications, whether you were sick or not. It became very odd with him. And one day he just disappeared, replaced by the Doctor that almost killed me - Dr. Wang. Dr. Iman discovered a polyp on my thyroid, because he coincidentally had the same thing years before. I had no idea, but he looked at my neck, felt my thyroid and told me I need to go to the hospital. If he hadn't noticed it who knows where I'd be right now. By contrast, the slick talking, young-ish, nice and mild mannered Dr. Wang who replaced him constantly hid things and lied to me about my health. I was considering leaving my job (and then leaving the state) but I wanted to know that my health was okay first. no way I would have resigned if I was in need of some medical care. I spent a year with Dr. Wang, getting tested for various conditions, ESPECIALLY DIABETES - I SPECIFICALLY ASKED for A1C testing to determine if I am Diabetic, amongst other possible issues. I also asked about my Thyroid output levels - he never gave me a straight answer about that either. He told me I do not have diabetes, that I am fine. I got a second opinion from a doctor at Kaisar Oakland (change of health plans) and also was never told I had any type of issue. So I resign, move to Georgia and three months later I am in Atlanta Medical Center, one step away from a diabetic coma. somebody lied, because my sugar levels were 500+ and climbing when they got to me. I also had Diabetic ketoacidosis - which was because my body couldn't process nutrients, and I couldn't eat, it was trying to process fat for fuel, which gives off alkaline by-products, pouring them into the blood. Its like a chemical burn from the inside... So long story just a little bit longer, Berkeley Family Practice ruined me and almost killed me. If it weren't for their HMO butt kissing ways I'd have had my problem solved there in California instead of almost dying a few months later after giving up my job and health care, spending thousands of dollars to move to Georgia. Thanks to them I have a massive medical bill too - thanks a lot, BFP - just what I've always wanted. Maybe there are new Doctors there now so that may not apply today, but i went there for a long time and something is just not right there. That place is SICK. read more

Berkeley Family Practice is a pain in the ass in every sense. They can now kiss mine goodbye. Dr. Goo was indeed the poo. She offered attentive care. AFTER I waited 55 minutes to be seen and had to cancel another appointment I had that day. Furthermore, while getting my womyn's annual exam she recommended that I get my anal cavities checked as well. I was skeptical and voiced this to her. However she convinced me she might as well while she was down there. Basically she stuck her finger up my ass. MY PURE VIRGINAL ASS (well as pure as an ass can be). She concluded that my ass was normal. No shit. Pun intended. And like so many times when a womyn is cohersed into giving up her bum-cherry, that was the last I saw of Dr. Goo. I could never seem to get an appointment with anyone besides an physicians assistant, who offered sub-par care. The being tossed aside like a used rubber glove aside, having to deal with the horrendous admin staff is very much not worth the hassle to maintain ones health. I had to get labwork done and they NEVER let me know about the results. I had to track down the information myself but could not get it because they would only give it to my Dr. who apparently did not give a shit enough to call and get it. Quality: 2/6 Service: 1/5 Value: 1/4 Total: 4/15 = 1/5 I have had *THE WORST* experience dealing with this practice. Avoid them at all cost! My insurance covers 100% of preventative care, and I wanted to find a new doctor in Berkeley. I set up an appointment for a physical and went in. They would not see me unless I paid a $20 copay that they said I had (I should've just walked out then and there). After that, I waited a long time before finally seeing a doctor. They did not give me a physical. They sent me away to get blood tests and make another appointment for the physical. When I came back for my "followup", they wanted another $20 copay even though I verified that I don't need to pay a copay. I refused to pay it, and they've been harassing me for it for the past 3 months (even adding a $30 late fee despite my providing them with documentation that I don't owe it). On top of that, they provided the wrong documentation to their lab company, and their lab company tried to collect $180 from me for the lab work! After spending 3-4 hours on the phone with my insurance, the lab company, and the doctor's office, I've been able to get things almost fixed. The lab company now thinks I owe $20 to them (and hopefully one more round of mailing EOBs will get them to forget that), but this doctor's office still wants me to give them $50! If you value your time and don't want to fight with the doctor's office and insurance companies, find a better doctor (and please refer me to them). read more

I have seen some cases presented to this office and the diagnoses that were given... what a joke. I'll start with a bit of praise for Dr. Julie Goo. She was the first doctor that treated both my wife and me, and she just rocked--ROCKED, I tell you. Knowledgeable, attentive, conscientious... she was always very prompt about calling to let us know how a test came out or any other little thing. Glorious service and a very nice woman. Well, she took a leave to have a baby, and the place really went down hill. The staff, as others here have mentioned, was rude and unprofessional before Dr. Goo left, and they seemed to get worse. You know the kind of office you go into where there's a lot of people behind the counter, and there's a cliquish vibe that makes you feel left out? Well, combine that with a sense of medical profession smugness and obstinate adherence to bureaucracy. I had a pretty good experience with a Dr. Tacdol, who has since left that office for unknown reasons, but the reason that Berkeley Family Practice gets only two stars in my review is the shabby, SHABBY treatment my wife received when trying to get information about an x-ray from Dr. Aiko Jacintho. To begin with, leaving a message for Jacintho was next to impossible. The front office always connected my wife to his assistant, who was uncooperative and über-snotty, and who apparently never forwarded messages to the doctor. She just kept repeating in a sing-song way that my wife would have to make an appointment to get her results, thank you, have a nice daaaaay. Naturally this absurd policy, which would never be explained, meant taking half a day off work, driving across town, and paying a copay just to get test results that Dr. Goo would have happily and promptly given over the phone. My wife was in the middle of a super-busy time, and she couldn't even get an explanation as to why she had to go in to the office. Finally she did go in, and the doctor gave her the information he could have given her over the phone, and she left. We have since vowed never to return to that office. Hopefully Dr. Goo will find a better place to do business because we would like to see her again. read more

l am surprised at the low ratings of this office. Due to my complex medical history and chronic illness, I take having a good doctor very seriously. I've been a patient of Dr. Zaman for about 1 1/2 years now and she has been wonderful. She has a very warm demeanor, and always greets me with a smile and hug when she enters the room. She listens attentively when I'm speaking and I never feel rushed. She's always gone the extra mile to ensure that my symptoms are managed, and that I receive any necessary referrals or tests. I came for a medical exam for Canadian Immigration. On the report of blood test, they misspelled my name. When I received the report, I called in immediately and they said the result was submitted to the IRCC and they could not update or redo it. And they felt totally okay about the mistake. What an unacceptable attitude. They scanned my passport and I double checked everything I provided and confirmed there were no mistakes. The lab didn't even bother to check the name for the test? How sloppy they are! My Canadian application is still in process but if anything gets wrong, it's totally the clinic's fault. read more

Been going here for a few years. Originally Dr. Goo was my primary doctor, but I've only seen her once since she had her baby. Since then it has been a string of different faces, but they've been friendly without exception. While I have had some long-ish waits, today I had maybe a 2 minute wait in the waiting room, then less than a 5 minute wait from when the nurse left until when the Doctor arrived. The best thing about here is that I've always been able to get a same day appointment. Have to ask questions to get all of your concerns dealt with, but that's the usual. read more

Update. Finally after a month of trying, I was able to get through to someone in billing. Despite the fact that the billing issue was indeed their fault I'm stuck paying a late fee, and probably getting my credit score docked since this has already gone to collections. Soooo glad I moved back home from Berkeley and am able to finally find a great doctor's office. The front desk at Berkeley Family Practice has been super rude to me, on the phone and in person, and have really bad attitudes. They've shuffled me through doctors for the past four years and have never placed me with a consistent doctor. My insurance card said my doctor was Dr. Goo but I think I've only seen her once the entire time. The only reason why I didn't switch practices altogether is because BFP is the only one in walking distance from my apartment. The doctors are alright, the only one I really liked left after a short stint (probably because of the bad staff). And they charge for EVERYTHING. I wanted to get my medical records from their office and they charge $45 to copy papers. Overall, not the greatest experience, will not be going back, and it definitely seems like the practice cares more about the money than the health of their patients. read more

After five years of putting up with this office, I'm finally going to change. The office itself is filthy. Their are stains on the carpet, torn seats and examination tables, and a pile of dirty patio furniture and garbage on the visible back porch. The rooms are dusty and dark, and the whole place smells. The reception area is a wreck, and completely disorganized. I don't believe they are online in any way, because they have walls and boxes of jumbled paper files. The whole physical experience of even being in the office is unsettling. The staff are short, and rude. They make mistakes often, and don't apologize when they do. They don't seem to communicate with each other, and give contradicting answers to the same question. Just today I was told I could walk in to the office to complete a survey, but when I came in they insisted that I needed to make an appointment and come back another day (and subsequently pay a copay, in order to have a nurse sit down with me and ask me 5 simple questions). My husband and I have seen several of the doctors, and they always seem like they don't want to be bothered. They also seem reluctant to provide a referral if they don't know the answer. I literally had one appointment in which the doctor sat on her computer the entire visit, basically "googling" my symptoms. I've had other doctors discount symptoms, and completely blow them off. I have actually avoided making appointments for certain things just because I don't want to have to go into that office. I'm glad I am finally going through the hassle to find a new office. I would stay away from this practice. It's not worth your time, and they don't deserve your business. read more

Heres the low down: Appointment was for 12 oclock. They asked me to show up at 11:30 to fill out new patient paperwork. I finish that at 11:42 and they call me back into a room at 11:45. Nurse immediately takes my vitals and at 11:50 the Doctor walks into the room. ARE WE JOKING? THE DOCTOR IS EARLY? I immediately told them they are gettting a stellar yelp review for something I have never ever witnessed in my life. I had booked myself out for hours thinking I'm going to be at the doctors and I was walking out of my appt at 12:15. Doctor Mehtma immediately knew what was wrong ( weird skin bumps from internal infection). It wasn't like I had a cold. She was clear and conscise and to the point about what I needed to do and provided realistic alternatives. I love it when Doctors are so helpful and don't treat you like a imbicile! She even brought out a book to show me exactly what I had and I could remember the name. This review is based on my experiences with the wonderful Dr. Julia (Julie) Goo. I never related with people who were on friendly terms with their doctor -- I was just a check-up-once-a-year kind of person -- until now. Dr. Goo is both warm and professional, and, most importantly, concerned about her patients. She has scheduled me for lab work and followed up each time in a timely, thorough manner, often making new appointments when anything looked suspicious. Unfortunately, this now means I know I have high cholesterol and have to watch my eating habits (wah!).. but it is for the better. Dr. Goo is truly great, and I wish everyone could have such a personable and knowledgeable doctor! -1 star for the often sullen and/or slow front office staff. They get the job done, but don't make the whole doctor's office experience any more pleasant than usual. The actual space isn't modern or welcoming, either, but I'll take that over a hyper-clean bureaucratic health corp. Dr. Julie Goo is awesome. A few years back I had some very acute health issues that she took seriously and dealt with swiftly. She is also very personable and listens very well. I could tell that she was doing all she could for me and then some. The front desk is not super friendly but they have never been rude by any means. Another reason to go here is because they generally can make same day appointments and if not, usually you can get in pretty quick. Also, I don't think I have ever waited more than 10 or 15 minutes in the waiting room. They seem efficient and organized. read more

This place is a shit hole and the care is pretty rotten too. I went to Dr. Zaman and I can say it was the worst medical experience I have ever had. When I asked her to fill out my medical form for my employer (I work at an adoption agency), she kept asking me if I wanted to have a baby. Major language barrier and many more intrusive questions later she really asks me, "so if you have a baby will you keep it?" Is she really asking me this because all I am asking for is for her to fill out my freaking medical slip for work saying I am healthy and can preform my work duties. This should be a no brainer considering I am in perfect health! The place is dirty, the waiting room as as ghetto as it could possible be, the couches look like the ones folks toss to the curb. The clinic is super dated as well. I feel the places lacks in overall cleanliness. This is the first doctor in my life that I have been to and walked out with a promise to myself to never ever return!! read more

The good: Dorothy Yip is fantastic and it is very easy to get appointments with her at the last minute. Great bedside manner, she has taken up to half an hour to listen to my issues and find solutions. She even offered to help me get directions to a referral appointment, which is above and beyond. Similarly, all of the nurses have been very kind and friendly while taking my vitals and other information. The bad: the office staff is terrible at following up on test results. They let a test for an acute issue sit in their fax machine for a day and a half, until I called and requested that they dig through it. Another time a staff member was rude to me on the phone for requesting test results. For all of my appointments, I've only seen doctors there twice. Once, I saw a male doctor with terrible bedside manner. My old primary care doctor, Dr Zaman, was very nice. Still I'd prefer to see a different doctor, because she wasn't aware of a common migraine contraindication that every doctor I've seen since for the last decade has warned me about. Finally, the office was terribly dated and dingy looking. After two years, I switched providers and I'm much happier with my new provider. read more

Five stars for Dr. Mehta! The office staff and waiting room are not great, but Dr. Mehta makes any hassle worth it. I started going here in March of 2011, because I was having new and very upsetting stomach issues. I got a next-day appointment with Dr. Mehta, who zeroed in on stress as the source. She was incredibly sympathetic when I was in a really bad place, and I love seeing her. She's worked hard to help me get to the root of my problems, instead of just throwing medication at the issue. She's wonderful to talk to, and seems very happy to chat about any seemingly minor things and offer good advice. I hope that when I leave Berkeley in a few years, I can find a doctor as compassionate and skilled as she is. read more

I really liked my Doctor (Jacintho) but he has left the practice and it's no mystery as to why. I had a medication refill that had expired. The Pharmacy contacted the office to get authorization and no response. I called the office and was on hold for 10 minutes before getting disconnected. I called again- same thing happed. I called again. and was told they would fax the form over. Went back to the pharmacy- no form. At this point I'm off my medication and having some bad reactions. I called. On hold for ten minutes, then hung up on. I went to the office in person. Was told the person I needed to speak to was at lunch. They wrote down my number and assured me I would get a call in an hour or two. No call. I called again. No one was availible I called AGAIN, early in the moringing so I could leave an urgent voicemail. No response. At the day I called one last time, whipping out the curse words and demanding not to be put on hold. Of course I was told that I was being rude and disrespectful, but it got the job done. I don't see why this place has such a bad rap. To me it is pretty good! I called early on a Friday not expecting to be seen until Monday at the least. They had an immediate opening that day with Dr. Mehta. Amazing! I head to the appointment, fill out the new patient paperwork, and waited for about 10 minutes. The medical assistant wasn't anything to write home about, but really who goes to a doctor's office for the medical assistants? I see Dr. Mehta, who immediately orders a quick test and subsequent treatment (oh asthma how I loathe thee). I walk out with 3 prescriptions, AND a sample of the most expensive medicine because it has a coupon! I was thoroughly impressed with Dr. Mehta. She is thorough, knows her stuff, and puts you at ease with any issue. I do not hesitate to say that I would trust her with my life. I have been to a few doctors in my day, and she is definitely one of the best. Her bedside manner is impeccable. So, long story short, ignore the other reviews and see Dr. Mehta! I came here for my physical test for immigration and the whole process was very simple and easy. I called them and was able to get an early morning appointment for the next week. When I arrived, they took me in at exactly 8:30 am and I could see the doctor right away without any wait. The staff was also courteous and efficient and the blood draw was uneventful. They X-ray clinic that they refer to is a couple of miles away and the whole process is very streamlined and easy. read more

I had a bad back injury in March and had to see Dr. Zaman several times, thanks to the overly cautious HR department at my job. She helped me write a letter to HR explaining my condition and what my job restrictions would be for the next couple months. She even faxed it for me. The first time I saw her I was in a lot of pain. She was very gentle with me, looked at my x-rays thoroughly, gave me an extended pain killer scrip, and showed me some exercises to do at home. My HR department made me go back for routine checkups every 3-4 weeks to avoid workman's comp, and even though Dr. Zaman really just had to ask me how my pain levels were coming down, she still did a light physical on me each time to make sure I was healing properly. She recommended going to physical therapy which helped. A few months ago I had a BAD stomach bug on a weekend. I called Saturday morning when they first opened and was able to get in for an appointment within a couple hours. The nurse gave me an anti-nausea shot and Dr. Fitzer gave me some diet suggestions. The doctors all seem like fairly competent, nice people. I had a lot of questions regarding bills after my back injury, and the billing lady was hard to get hold of. I'm going in for a routine "women's health" appointment tomorrow. So many OBGYN's around here are hard to get an appointment with, and Berkeley Family Practice got me in next day. Dr Mehta gets 5 stars; the staff/office get 'satisfactory' Dr Mehta is a knowledgable, thorough doctor. Moreover, she is a caring healer. She found her true calling in medicine and saw me through some pretty hard and scary times. I like the location and I'm usually able to get an appt same day. The staff are not warm and fuzzy, but the doctors are great. Dr Zaman is also great. read more
