So rude. I went in and spoke with David on three separate occasions about selling him books. He was…read moreOK. But then when I brought the books in and was talking to him about them, he turned from Dr. Jekyll to Mr. Hyde. Couldn't understand it. Just rude and snotty and short. I guess there's other bookstores open. I'll go to those. Incredibly disappointed. A real tool.

The only reason this place has such low ratings is because the owner is targeted for not adhering…read moreto particular political ideologies. If that doesn't deter you then coming here, as a book lover, researcher, or anyone involved in intellectual or literate pursuits, is one of the best decisions you could possibly make. This is a real bookshop. It's a relic from what you would have had easy access to in the 20th century and prior and that (sadly for our species) barely exists any longer. You're more likely to walk out with a first edition of some esoteric and forgotten knowledge than whatever you planned on finding when you walked in. You could spend hours just glancing through one row of shelves and still not even catch half of it. The books here are high quality, ranging from contemporary titles to 19th century (and probably beyond) originals. There's a bit of everything, from history and archaeology, to religion and spirituality, to music and cars, to novels and poetry, to travel and hobbies, to social matters and Jewish interests. If you like books, knowledge, or anything that could be found in a written text, you'll find it here. Apparently people dislike the owner. I have no idea why. He's brief, witty, and competent. Are people so accustomed to the fake smiles and creepy stalking you'd get at a Barnes & Noble that they've actually convinced themselves that this is real life? Or even desirable in any way? You won't find a retail worker pretending to like you in hopes of keeping a job or getting a tip here. Just a real man with a real mission and amenity. Also Known as Pine Grove Historical Museum, it is run by the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical…read moreSociety whose goal is the "Preservation of the Past for the Enrichment of Future Generations." It is a non-profit organization, always looking for a helping hand. They were closed the other day when I visited. This location is run solely by volunteers, and had no signs with hours of operation. Ah, but during my visit, a couple of the volunteers happened to stop by and gave me information about the organization. I took a brief walk around the well manicured grounds and found that they have a farm museum, carriage house, root cellar, smoke house, summer kitchen, school house and of course, the Wisner Mansion. While I was there, I shot a picture of the historical marker which is prominently displayed close to the roadway. Their next big event is an Ice Cream Social on 26 JUL 2014 and it promises to be a great time. Hours of operation are 11am - 4pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, library included. Group tours are scheduled in advance. I see it's been a little slow here in updating info, so contact Sara at 248-338-6732 or office@ocphs.org with any questions or to RSVP. Web site: www.ocphs.org. From the owner: In September 1874, the "Old Settlers" formed the Pioneer Society of Oakland County. Members were…read morerequired to be residents of the county before 1840. As time went by, and fewer people met the eligibility requirements, membership was opened to the descendants of pioneers and other residents of the county. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, the Society collected newspapers, books, photographs, manuscripts, and artifacts relating to Oakland County, and the collections were stored in the county courthouse in downtown Pontiac. In 1945 Pine Grove, the Pontiac homestead of Governor Moses Wisner, was purchased as a headquarters for the Society. In 1962 the organization was renamed the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society. As part of our mission, the Society continues to devote itself to the preservation of the history and culture of Oakland County, and to maintaining the Pine Grove estate.
