I enjoy going to the (much brighter, more modern) library with my 18-month-old. We play and get materials. It's not as open to play as some of the other public libraries, perhaps because it is smaller, which is why I give it 4/5 stars. There is no "separate" kids area, so I don't feel I can let my kiddo fully explore. However, as an adult I like the amount of DVDs (adults/kids/new), CDs, books on CD, and books they have to offer. But parking was available on the street directly in front of the door, which was nice. I am used to using the main branch in midtown for my library needs, and that place is huge. All of the other branches are tiny in comparison, and Chandler Park is particularly small. Being a hot summer day, the place was full of neighbood folks (a mix of kids, adults, and elderly) hanging out, taking advantage of the free internet, and keeping cool. Any patrons not using the computers, were reading magazines or searching the DVD selection. The woman at the circulation desk was basically useless, directing me to incorrect areas of the library twice before just admitting she didn't know where adult nonfiction was (whaaaat) and sending me to the main librarian, who, on the other hand, was very knowledable and helpful. A friendly security guard hangs out to keep tabs on everything, as is the case at all of the Detroit library branches. Although the building is noticably old and not in the best condition, the Chandler Park Branch came through for me on a few books that the massive main branch did not have. It was good to see the library full of patrons, even if most of them were just there to mooch free internet and AC ( which, let's be real - is what most libraries are used for these days, be they in the city of suburbs).

They also offer a decent sized computer labs for jobs searching, school projects etc, small study rooms and they have EV charging stations which is an added bonus as well. The Northville District Library is a place where I know I will find a workspace that is conducive for productivity or a cozy environment where I can stroll while looking for the latest read. Librarians were available if needed and one team member provided insight when I inquired about a particular resource. The books and movies within the Northville collection is quite vast which was exciting to explore. The check-out system is straight forward. A variety of seating options are available on all levels of the library where individuals or groups are likely to find a spot to gather. My favorite is the fireplace area! Parking lot is spacious and easy to navigate.

The librarians are friendly, and the reading and studying spaces are clean and get lots of natural light. I like that there are study rooms for both large groups as well as for one person or two people that can be reserved for up to two hours. Other libraries only have study rooms for groups and have the right to kick out one person using the room. Northville Library is small compared to other cities, but it's inviting, quiet, and relaxing. I prefer it to other libraries in the area.

Despite being located right next to the police station there are signs EVERYWHERE warning you to not steal, to beware of thieves, etc... Message delivered Warren, you have sketchy library patrons. The building it is housed in does have a gorgeous entrance with high ceilings and plenty of windows. They have a tiny isle in the back of used books for sale but for this library you need to drive a few miles to visit their Friends of the Library to purchase books, dvd's, puzzles, etc. They did have one motorized scooter, which my mom could utilize. They have nice wide isles for navigating the scooter. There was plenty of comfortable seating. I saw one printer and copier located at the front entrance. They have a free public parking garage for you to use, which is very nice during inclement weather.

I went back today to work remotely, as I was already in the area for something else. The nostalgia! While things look updated and newer since my days, it still have pretty much the same layout as I remembered. It ended up being a really nice place to work remotely for the day. There's plenty of open seating with outlets. There are also a number of quiet individual booths (for phone calls/meetings) as well as group rooms. There's also a dedicated silent study room for extra quiet and focus. Vending machines with food and drink in the front, and of course, the library is adjacent to Heritage Park which is nice. Also, the children's section is large and adorable. The different sized doorways leading into it is exactly the same as when I was a kid decades ago :').

There are tasteful murals along the back wall of the library featuring large Cardinal Birds. A welcome site in any season and especially in wintertime. Just behind the library is a 'Reading Park' with a large gazebo, several benches and a lawn under shade trees. Though there is no play set here it is a nice place to take children to play ball or read books. The library itself is on the small side but is packed with books. The librarians are very helpful and engaged. They have computer systems that are open to the public. You just need to sign up to use them.

The Children's section is filled with books and things to do. There are craft events, book reading…read moreand other things going on all the time for the kids. For adults - same thing! Lots of activities and fun things to do as well as a robust book collection. The book collection and the children's section are bolstered by an engaged, professional and helpful set of librarians and technicians who bring knowledge to life. I enjoy working at the tables as well as reading in the library. If there isn't a book you are looking for there - no worry! The librarians can summon a book from one of their many partner libraries - or even from any library in the entire State of Michigan by using MelCat!
