It happened today when Mrs. K. decided that she wanted a frozen custard and we're here in West Virginia. Well, Berkshire's Frozen Custard Shop is now Evan's Sweets and it showed up on our search. I have been lamenting that no ice cream shops have window service in the area. Enter custard! I tried this place, and will 100% be returning. The cost for the custard is average, while the quality is superior. The treats were loaded with toppings! They also have hot dogs and burgers that are reasonably priced, and the buns are the "fancy" kind. We sat outside where the tables are far enough back that the traffic wasn't an issue. The service was fast and friendly (lunch time), the inside temperature was cool, and there wasn't chaos or a racket. Both DQ are history for this household! read more

This place has gone through several different owners and I don't recall the old Berkshire's being this way. Waited in line for over 30 minutes to get a vanilla custard. The intercom doesn't seem to work. If it does, no one ever took my order. Skip the extremely long wait and go to Dairy Queen instead. read more

Berkshire's served me the best frozen custard I have ever had, and they did it with a smile. Full disclosure: the only other frozen custard I have had is Culver's, which is good, but not nearly as good as Berkshire's. But let's face it, frozen custard is not nearly as popular as ice cream or frozen yogurt. I ordered a small swirl with chocolate custard and peppermint patties. There were small pieces and big chunks of candy in it, which was a pleasant surprise. The custard was absolutely perfect. The small size was just enough. Best...... BEST frozen custard I have ever had! I had the strawberry and it was unbelievable ! Fresh strawberries cut up in it. I warn you, Their portions are HUGE!!! Awful service. I waited 20 minutes while I stood outside in a small line. The line never moved and I never had my order taken. Then, I went to my car to go through the drive-thru and waited another 15 minutes and neither line moved one time. So I left to go to dairy queen. There is no reason as to why the service there should ever take that long when it doesn't even take that long at a dine-in restaurant. read more

When I visit family in southern West Virginia and southwest Virginia, I make it a priority to stop for some frozen custard. This is the best I have had, and the only complaint I could possibly lodge would be that they close too early in the year (middle fall, maybe) and open too late the next year (mid-spring). Went to Berkshire this evening, ordered a barbeque and chips my friend ordered hot dogs. It was absolutely dreadful. I couldn`t hold the BBQ in my hands, had to ask for a fork. Cole slaw was sour. Hotdogs had a funny taste to them, I paid $15.00 and some change for the meals and couldn't eat them. I wouldn`t recommend this place to anyone for anything other than ice cream. read more
