In the last few years, people were just showing up with large groups of people to do an impromptu wedding but the town is now restricting this type of activity and you have to reserve in advance if you want to bring a large crowd. I noticed the sign for the museum for the first time this week and then a Facebook invite came up in my suggestions Even without the Christmas decor this is such a gorgeous and well maintained house museum. They are clearly very passionate about it. The home belonged to the artist F Holland Day and his family and it is beautiful... Truly the home of people who valued beauty. A member gave a really nice tour to a local family and I The members onsite were very welcoming and happy to share. Follow their Facebook page for future events, I guess. There aren't any regular tour hours but if you can catch them it is a lovely experience.

The staff is extremely friendly, and though the lines can get a little long during the lunch rush they keep everything moving. The cooks behind the grill and to-order stations make some really delicious stuff from grilled chicken sandwiches to burgers to custom-made pasta dishes and more (depending on the daily special.) They also have a pasta bar, some pre-packaged sushi, and 1-2 soups of the day. Of course, there's both drip coffee and espresso drinks to keep this college population going. Gutman's "real" purpose (as a library) is also well-fulfilled. The first floor is a terrible place if you need a quiet work environment, but perfect for collaboration with a partner or group... and the second floor is silent for when you need to focus. The 3rd and 4th floors are full of computer labs and conference rooms (make sure to book ahead of time!)

During lunch time, they usually have hot food that is priced at $0.50/ounce and offer things like pork loin, white fish, grilled zucchini, mashed potatoes, etc. The food is surprisingly really good and affordable. The salad bar is arranged in the same way - you pick what you want and pay for the weight. It's a bit scary to try to estimate how much you'll have to pay but so far I've never had to pay more than $8 for a good amount of food. They also serve coffee and other beverages. I usually get iced coffee here for about $2-3 and refills are $1/each. In terms of studying/doing work here, the first floor is quite noisy and is where the cafe is located. If you want a quiet space, I'd advise going up to the 2nd floor. There aren't a lot of tables/spaces to do work on the 3rd and 4th floors (that I know of anyway). *You have to have a Harvard ID to enter the building.*

The marker reads, "Adam Hawkes, the first white settler in Saugus, built on this site about 1630. President John Adams was his great-grandson." It was erected in 1930 by the Massachusetts Bay Colony-Tercentenary Commission. Hawkes departed England in 1630 aboard the John Winthrop-commanded Winthrop Fleet. Hawkes initially made Charlestown in the Massachusetts Bay Colony his home after arriving in America. He was a husbandman in Charlestown and held the positions of Cow Commissioner and Surveyor. Hawkes traveled to the Lynn (now Saugus) wilderness in 1635 after getting married and selling his Charlestown home to farm. The Hawkes family were the region's first recorded settlers. They took me right at my appointment time. The woman helping me was friendly and bilingual. She made the process painless. Interview was about 20 minutes. And took a couple hours to get everything approved and my visa printed. The only headache here is parking, it's downtown Boston. Take the train if you can.
