Yeah, I tend to prefer the much older ones, but hey, at least it is nicer than those brutalist stations.

On the flip side, it is a very modern looking site with a glass drum serving as an iconic entrance and allowing for natural light (and hence, your mobile signal) to reach as far deep as the station platform. The station itself is rather well kept with a routinely engaged cleaning staff. The ticketing office staff is strangely and uniformly rude (or is it just apathy?). Lots of turnstiles, hence you almost never see an entry or exit bottleneck. Well connected to North East, Central and North London hence very little to complain about on the connectivity front. There's a large Tesco near the tube station and a shopping center; and ample residential space near the station also makes it fairly safe and easily accessible for people such as me.

The Northern line also runs through here. This station goes pretty deep and good thing the escalators worked! Also, tap and pay was easy here. It was a main station for the marathon runners to board and head to the start line area. Its one of the oldest stations dating back to the 1830's. There are now some current businesses here to grab a coffee and bite to eat. Can be a bit confusing to navigate for some as its massive and winding so make sure you know where you're going.

The location is great because if you come in here, you're close to Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Embankment and Leicester Square. There are not too many tracks so it's easy to get your train. We took a Southeastern train to London Bridge here and it was very quick. For connected tube service, you can access the Northern and the Bakerloo lines. It's quite a trek to get to the Bakerloo line but it's nice to have the connections in one place. Also, many bus lines go right be here so it's easy to get a direct ride to this station. While we were staying near Trafalgar Square, this was our most used transit hub.

We greatly appreciated the convenience of the direct Canterbury West to Charing Cross Route and the subsequent short walk to our hotel (at Trafalgar Square) from there. This station is a bit smaller than some of the other transit hub stations (e.g. Paddington, St. Pancras, etc.), which was just fine by us.

When conversing with the very nice employee here and he was explaining the zones he informed me that the majority of all travelers remain within Zone 1-2 on the Jubilee line. He also informed that the Westminster stop would be where a lot of the sights would be. Upon arrival, I noticed how clean the station was, I didn't see a garbage can in sight, but yet, I didn't one piece of garbage on the floor. All stops here have signage everywhere-- where to transfer, where to exit, some of the sights at that station, etc. what a huge help when you're in a city or country for the first time! They have an employee at the gate so you can ask questions and they are actually eager to assist without an attitude!

The thing about this station is that when you get off one of the lines it simply feels as if you…read moreare literally at the bottom of the pit. The reason for this is that I can basically see the escalators heading up to the sub-surface. That's probably because how they originally built this station, though ironically it seems as if this is the only deep level tube station they built this way. I've never had to wait in line to buy a ticket at the machines. The screens are large and pretty clear to help you figure out what train to take, and you can see all the different platforms. There are a lot of shops in this station to buy food - including Pret-a-Manger if you want a salad for something healthy. There's also Upper Crust or places to get coffee or a Boots if you need to pick up something there. You don't have to walk too far to get to the Tube, which is nice and the place has a lot of natural sunlight. The station is pretty, and they even have a Christmas tree during the holidays. All in all, a fine station to take the train and it's pretty centrally located. It's close to Borough Market too, which is nice if you want a good selection of food before or after your train gets in.

Actually, I believe you can do that to other stations as well, maybe not in London (though quite possibly you can - I'm not all that familiar with the Tube as some people are). Anyway yeah, it isn't a bad station, and it does pretty much dump you right at the foot of the Monument of the Great Fire.

I wouldn't recommend trying to do it underground. If you want to change, I find it easier to go upstairs and take the walk along King William Street. Alternatively, you can stay on the Circle Line and change at Liverpool Street, which is much easier. Monument Station opened in 1884 and is served by the District and Circle lines, between Cannon Street and Tower Hill. It is in Travelcard zone 1. There is no step-free access. It is a very curved platform, so when the announcer says "Mind the gap", they're not kidding - it's 6 to 8 inches in some spots!

Sure, there is an argument that there are a couple of stations nearby by this is on the edge of the old city, so the streets twist and turn everywhere, and half the exits are closed, so getting to the tube can actually be quite tricky at time. Still, it's a station, so you can get to places out of the city reasonably easy. Yeah, I guess privatised railways do create a mess like this.

Fenchurch Street railway station is the City of London's oldest main line station, the smallest,…read moreand also one of the nicest. It is also one of the four stations on the original Monopoly Board. Perhaps these things are not unrelated? The first station in the area was the London & Blackwall railway's terminus in nearby Minories, opened in 1840. These trains ran down to the Thames at Blackwall, and were designed to take traffic from the ferries, which they successfully achieved. In 1841 it was extended close to the city, on the present site. It was rebuilt in 1853-4 to the designs of George Berkeley, in grey stock brick, in a simple classical design with doric pilasters separating round-arched windows, all surmounted by a crescent-shaped pediment, in which is located the station clock. The station also became the terminus of the London, Tilbury & Southend Railway (LT&SR) n 1858, and it is these services - to Tilbury and Southend - which survive to-day. The frontage happily survives almost untouched, and in excellent condition, although the original flat canopy above the entrance has been replaced by a nevertheless attractive zig-zag canopy. It faces a small square, and is delightful in summer sunshine. The same cannot be said of the accommodation behind, where the graceful arched glass train-shed has been replaced by a rather low and dingy ceiling underneath a large office development, although the long platforms do at least have some daylight further out. Its small size means it is also easy to navigate, and there are no long walks to anywhere. The main ticketing facilities and concourse behind are at first floor level: there are escaltors, stairs and a lifts. Toilets (free) are on the ground floor, with all other facilities at first floor level. There are a number of food and drink outlets, a Transport for London help desk, several cashpoints and a small newsagent (W H Smiths) on the concourse. There is also a small ticket office at the Cooper's Row entrance. The station has just two island platforms giving four platform faces, which are used to capacity at peak hours, providing some 20 trains an hour. The services used to be a by-word for awfulness: the LT&SR acronym was reinterpreted as the 'Late, tired and suffering railway' by its passengers. However, the trains are now exclusively operated by the c2c company (c2c = City to coast), with shiny new trains which are among the most punctual in the UK. Fenchurch Street It is unique in London termini in not having an underground connection. The best connection is from the rear exit (Cooper's Row) to Tower Hill station, a two-minute walk away. The fact that you have to get a lift to the platform or brave more steps than parents of a teenage girl in the late 90s is one. I guess its just one of those deep lines. The other disadvantage is that while it is located on a main road, there isn't much around. Most of the pubs and restaurants in Kennington are located on other streets a short walk away. The big plus with this station is that, despite only having the one tube line, it has loads of transport options, due to its location just prior to the fork in the Northern line, where you can take the business or the pleasure branch towards Kings Cross.
