Very clean and well-frequented facility. Ample parking in front of the building. Staff seem to know the members pretty well. Lots of really great athletic spaces and multipurpose spaces here. They do offer cultural programming here, in addition to the option for participating in fitness activities. There seems to be a lot of miscommunication among staff members, though, which is frustrating when you want to attend a program. read more

Plagued by problems with agency management resulting in loss of talent. Staff and families are often uninformed as a result. Lacking in safety procedures during times of crisis like leading up to closing for Coronavirus. Maybe during flu season don't put 100 kids in a small room to celebrate anything. Plan events to invite grandparents to during months when there's less risk of getting sick. The JCC needs to focus less on finances and reputation and more on keeping everyone safe and building community. read more

Not the widest selection of gym equipment but always a solid experience. The employees are helpful and nice. Usually very quiet in the gym with only a few other people working out. Basketball courts are open and nice when they aren't being used for pickle ball or a kids class. This is a good option and well worth the membership price. 100% bang for your buck. read more

She does not have any children who attend this location for any childcare needs. There's is no reason for her to have any comment on Bernard Weinger JCC. She is a vulgar and an extremely immature GIRL who wrote the comment under the above mentioned name. She should be ashamed to be calling women outside of their names and titles due to her own insecurities and feelings. The child care providers/teachers and all who work there, carry themselves professionally and responsibly and should be praised for their consistent hard work and dedication to the well being of the children and students who attend this childcare facility. I was looking for full time care for my kids and looked into the Bernard Weinger JCC. I was really unimpressed with the Director's overall rude attitude towards each and every question I asked. I came in for the tour and thought it looked like a nice, safe and educational place for my kids. Once I saw the tuition, which would be over $600 a week for full time care, my tune changed. The JCC obviously caters towards only the wealthier clientele base, because I don't know many people who could afford that much tuition on a typical American salary (what do they say it is? around 40k a year?) It's a shame that it's so impossible to afford quality, full time care for your children this day in age. Our search continues. read more

We have been very happy with the JCC. Our daughter started a little over a year ago. The teachers are warm, fun and love the children. They even have a pool and gym that is included in tuition when the kids are 3. It's a great place to send your children. We love the community as well. read more

We've been with the JCC for 8 years now. We went through many changes and many directors, and I truly believe the Weinger JCC is in a great place right now and here's why: 1. A new early childhood management - Energetic, strong and supportive! It finally feels there is a true leadership to lead this program! 2. New management to the whole facility who believes in making the JCC a true Jewish community Center! 3. The best academic program in the area, especially for kindergarten! The KG teacher is amazing and my son was beyond ready for first grade! This, on top of the basic things they have to offer as : the pool is an integral part of the program for the kids as they swim twice a week, the fact that they run until 6pm every day! and the family programs and especially Vacation Days program who takes the kids (k-10yr) to an awesome field trips whenever school is closed! I believe the JCC is off to a great year and many more to follow... They need all the support we can give them as a Jewish community. read more

PLEASE READ! Yes, the building is excellent. The security is great. What about the teachers, the environment, the feel of the school? UNACCEPTABLE I can describe most of the teachers as "burnt out." They dont seem to care and tend to yell at the children. The teachers lack in team work and good communication. The children don't seem to enjoy their school day and neither do most of the teachers. I really would not consider it to be a warm or kind environment. Or a place that respects children for who they are and accepts them. Please, look elsewhere, there are many acceptable schools out there. Oh, and the Bernard Weinger Jcc is very overpriced. read more

My experience with the early childhood center here has been totally frustrating and disastrous and I would never, ever suggest that anyone take a class here. I signed my 10 month old daughter up for a parent tot class, and it has all been downhill and infuriating since then. I got a call the evening before the class was supposed to start (she had been registered for the class for well over 6 weeks) telling me that not only would the class not meet the following day, it would not meet at all due to low enrollment. OK... This seems like something that could have been noticed and dealt with before the day before the program was meant to start, but whatever. The following week was a mess of back and forth phone calls and emails with the 2 education directors trying to consolidate the different sections of this class and figure out a time that worked for all the parents. This was a big mess--- the 2 women didn't seem to know what the other was saying to the parents, so there were a lot of crossed wires and duplicated conversations. Also, when I mentioned that it so happened that the day they were proposing to hold the class was when all the Jewish high holidays fell, meaning that we would miss like 5 weeks in a row, the director told me that it hadn't occurred to her to check the calendar to see if there was any conflict with the Jewish holidays. What? You run an early childhood center at a JCC and you don't know to check the September calendar to see when the high holidays fall? Anyway, a day and time were agreed upon and my daughter and I showed up at the class and waited and waited and waited and no other parents and kids showed up. The directors told me that there had been a "miscommunication" which I can only assumes means that they just forgot to get in touch with the other parents to tell them when the class was going to meet (i had to call to get this information-- no one got in touch with me). By this point I was totally fed up and when they suggested we come again the following week to see if any other parents showed up, I was done with this program and had zero faith left in the directors. I said no thank you, I would just like my money back which they told me would be no problem, since realistically, the class was clearly not going to happen. Well, three weeks later and many unanswered emails to the directors, my $280 has still not been refunded. Total incompetence. Totally rude. Totally unprofessional. I'm beyond fed up and angry and if I have to go bang on the doors of their offices, I'm getting my money back. Ridiculous. I would never recommend this program to anyone. So disappointing. read more

My family has had an amazing experience at the JCC. My son goes to pre-school there and will be attending kindergarten there in the fall. The teachers are awesome. They are firm yet very warm and compassionate. The directors are very involved in the schools daily activities and are always there for the parents and families. The school also has on site social worker which is amazing. She helps the parents and families deal with any issues that might arise. The jcc has been the best thing to happen to my family. read more

My son goes to daycare at Bernard Weinger and it is the best daycare he's been to! He's been to quite a few with moving and having to deal with temporary care but we are so glad he's found his new home away from home at Bernard Weinger. First and most importantly the teachers are wonderful with kids -the caring and family-like setting is so refreshing because they don't have to be political about the care they provide like at some daycares where it's all about rules and needless overhead. Without all the red tape they can better cater to the needs of each individual child -and they do! My son is so happy there -he literally runs to class in the mornings excited, happily waves "bye bye" to me and yes has so much fun there that I've actually had to carry him out crying some days because he wasn't "done playing" (embarrassing but undeniably a good sign for the facility :) Secondly and also very important is they actually care about nutrition -most of the food offered is either organic or kosher which is a lot healthier than most daycares and every meal (including snacks) is accompanied by fruits or vegetables. Being health conscious, we are so glad to have found a daycare where my son eats well. And while those 2 reasons alone are enough for most parents, I will add that the administration has been nothing but helpful. We received such a reassuring welcome with daily calls from the director the first week to report how our son was doing since she sensed the nervousness we felt bringing him to a new daycare after a very hard move. There has been another director standing in this summer who has also been just wonderful to us, listening to our needs and offering her full support. And we have met the new director coming in the fall who seems just as open and accommodating. Everyone at Bernard Weinger JCC from director to teachers to front desk staff to cleaning crew exhibit an amazing love of children that is proven by the fact that my son has nothing but smiles from and for everyone we come in contact with on the way in or out. I have never seen anything like it and am truly impressed with the outstanding environment he gets to spend his day in. I have read the other comments and understand the tuition concern but would like to point out that financial aid is available to families in need of it. As far as reported encounters with unfriendly staff I can only guess that they must no longer be there because I have faced nothing of the sort this year. Bernard Weinger has proved to live by the JCC principles of cherishing children, welcoming families, and having devoted educators. We look forward to spending many more years with this exceptional establishment! read more

Our son Aidan has attended the Mayer Kaplan JCC preschool programs in Skokie since he was 2yrs. old, and this year he is attending kindergarten at the Bernard Weinger JCC in Northbrook. I have found the Early Childhood programs to be well structured and organized with an equal balance of academic, physical, and religious/cultural activities. The teachers are very professional and knowledgeable of their curriculum and teach social, religious, and academic skills in a very structured, creative, and caring environment. I know that my son will be well prepared for entering 1st grade in Sept., 2013. I am very appreciative and thankful for his kindergarten teacher Mrs. Hoefler who is not only an exceptional teacher, but an exceptional person. I will be sad when Aidan leaves the JCC in June. In fact last year I used to joke with the teachers and tell them that the JCC should start an elementary school. I stopped in the the JCC in Northbrook looking for a safe, loving environment for my two children. I was greeted by two wonderful Directors of the full day child care. They spent a great deal of time answering my questions and taking me through the entire facility. I will be sending my older child to camp there and enroll my younger one in the full day child care when I return to work in the fall.
