Such a rude doctor. Surprised he stays in practice. I vow to never go to him again. My baby has allergies and needed to see him. First time I NEVER saw a doctor crack a smile at a baby! He barely even acknowledged him, and he was the patient! The office staff are very sweet and friendly. A shame they work for such a curmudgeon. read more

I had seen several doctors about a recurrent cough and trouble breathing for a year. I convinced my doctor to refer me to an allergist. Best decision I made. I have been seeing Dr. Bernstein for almost a year and he's amazing. He's been able to control my chronic asthma and administer shots for several allergies. read more

WORST DOCTOR OFFICE EXPERIENCE EVER. If you want to get hit with HUNDREDS of dollars in bills for 1 test, and be expected to pay it the next month with a check, then please, go to this doctor. IF, like me, you'd expect to be treated courteously and professionally, DO NOT GO TO THIS DOCTOR. see my story below. took my child to get tested for allergies. office staff exceptionally rude and brusque. asked questions about billing and was dismissed by woman, she said "she didn't have time to answer my questions" - there was one other person in the waiting room. when bill came in the mail (again, several hundred dollars) I was informed by their billing agents at Tech Advantage (Manny, manager - insanely rude and unprofessional person) that I could not use my HSA spending card, I had to pay with personal check "immediately or he would report me to credit agencies". I was still within my timeframe to pay - his threats were empty - but that he chose to address the situation with threats than discussion spoke volumes. I called Bernstein's office and the same rude receptionist told me "Dr. Bernstein is the premier allergist in the neighborhood and everyone pays him with a check." When I suggested she post that information in the office so clients are prepared for a large bill, I was hung up on. read more

I was referred here by an ENT for allergy testing and like the previous reviewer suffered from rude staff members and Dr. Bernstein himself regarding my insurance. When I walked in I showed them I had Oxford and they made me call my primary care dr for a referral even though my plan does not require referrals. The receptionist made it sound like there was a glitch with Oxford and their particular allergy testing so I called my PCP who submitted a referral on the spot. I felt bad because I have a good relationship with my PCP and I was forced by the receptionist to be rude to get a referral when usually I like to give PCP staff time to get stuff together. Unfortunately that was only the beginning of my billing issues. I was aging off my dad's policy and was given erroneous information about my insurance termination date. It turns out that for my first date of service I had another plan in effect that required a referral. I called the office to apologize and tell them they need to process the insurance through my correct carrier. The receptionist couldn't have been more haughty and rude. I had documentation showing a termination date that was different than the one used by insurance carrier. The receptionist said that without a shadow of a doubt the claim would not be paid because I lacked a referral. I told them I would write a letter to insurance company with proof that HR gave me a termination date prior to my visit and insurance company told me to ask my dad's HR for when I would age off his plan. I sent in the paperwork and my clear and fair letter resulted in the claim being processed! Now the new insurance had a $0 copay when I already paid $40 for a visit that was supposed to be covered by the first insurance. I called and politely asked for my $40 refunded. They put Dr. Bernstein on the line. I was appalled because in all my years seeing doctors I never had a doctor get on the phone to discuss money! I was told I was being a hypocrite for demanding a co-pay refund when I had the office re-submit my claim to a new insurance company. I repeated again I received wrong info from hr and had the proof which is why emblem paid claim without a referral. I told them I saw HIP check was cashed and i would report them to NYS for double dipping. A few days later my copay refund arrived. My main concern was the attitude the staff had about money. I have been to many other dr offices who work WITH patients and not against them when it comes to navigating insurance. If Dr. Bernstein thinks he's a superior allergist then stop accepting insurance and see if you'll have enough of a client base paying cash. read more

Dr. Bernstein has a know-it-all attitude and didn't respond to my questions in a respectful manner. Any bit of knowledge I showed was met with a rebuttal or dismissal. His interpersonal skills are poor and does not appear to care about his patients. His office only accepts cash or check which in today's modern economy is quite limited, especially for us FSA card holders. Oh, and he spelled my last name wrong on the receipt. I was referred to Dr. Larry Bernstein by Forest Hills Pediatrics for my son who has a number of food allergies. He has had it since he was an infant and is now 5 years old. I am surprised by all the negative reviews as my initial visit with the doctor was positive. I had a late 7:30pm weekday appointment and did not have to wait when I arrived. I forgot my son's insurance card and they didn't make a big deal out of it, just had to fax it the next day. The doctor was very nice and personable despite my 5 yr old being very jittery and messing around with the doctor's desk stuff. He answered all my questions and was able to provide additional insight that my two previous different pediatric allergists had not informed me. I will be following up in a few weeks for the blood work and hope it will be another positive experience. The only drawback is that there is no private parking adjacent to the building for patients. read more

He's a great doctor, very caring and efficient in seeing his patients. His office staff are very nice.
