The property manager was beyond helpful in a tough situation, UPS put my medications for surgery I was scheduled to have monday, in the wrong locker. UPS had no idea where they were. So just an update: the gate they said would be fixed in two weeks isn't fixed. I even went down last month to get some mail and was told it would be fixed in a week. since my review was posted. The only thing that's gotten better by 15% is the dog poop not everywhere. They won't allow you to place your trash by your door for a day due to the fire marshal saying so but if you wanna put your trash everywhere else that seems to be fine. They're not luxury at all. They have no protection from the sharp nails holding down the carpet at the washer/ dryer part of the apartment... They have no protection in the kitchen from carpet to tile. They have no protection from the door way to the carpet so you have the potential to stab your foot in THREE places while in our apartment. Our 4 year old constantly is stepping on them. Also we put in a request for a new air filter they completed it but nobody came up here. Omg no!!! AVOID THIS PLACE AND RUN FOR THE HILLS. I stayed here for a little over one year from 2020-2021. I lived here when I first moved to Asheville from California and it was wonderful. Travis the maintenance guy was always so quick to fix any issues I was having and Sharon, the lady who used to be in the office was so sweet to me and made the transition so easy and made me feel at home right away. Keep in mind though that a "ground level" unit may not actually mean ground level. My unit was further up on Ivington circle and it was "on the first floor" but they failed to tell me that there was a MASSIVE hill in front of it that you have to climb or walk up a flight of stairs to get to the first floor. I wanted the first floor to make moving easier but the hill made moving soooo much more work. Luckily I only brought what I could fit in my car so it wasn't too much but moving out was the worst. Yes there is a gate that surrounds the apartment but it NEVER works. It's constantly left open and not secure like it looks. There's also the look of a security guard booth at the gate but they use it as storage so it's looks only. The Amazon hub that they have on the property is a nice perk but is constantly down so sometimes u can't get ur packages. The trash compactor is constantly broken and over filled so people just dump their trash in the parking lot next to it and it's a disaster! A few times it was literally like 6 feet tall of trash and I'm not exaggerating. There are BUGS galore. We found stinkbugs, spiders and those long furry multi-leg bugs at least 3-4 days a week maybe even more. We were beginning to just accept the fact that we had some new bug roommates because it was a pain trying to kill them all the time. I may of gotten over my fear somewhat having to see them almost daily crawling on the ceiling. There's also kids that will play football/catch in the parking lots and throw their balls at your car. People here do not watch their kids and they are loud and bad. One time some kids were even putting tree branches in my A/C unit outside. And this isn't even the biggest issue yet. The biggest issue I had with this place is the MAJOR flooding during the rain/snow. During rainy or snowy days, the water seeped in from outside into my unit under and through the carpet. So if I stepped on my carpet in the sunroom it would flood and stay flooded for days at a time. They had a different maintenance guy come once to seal the door outside on my patio but this did not resolve the problem. I told them the problem was still not fixed and they told me that they didn't have any maintenance ppl so I'd have to wait. Months went by and it was never fixed. Keep in mind I was stuck in a apartment with a flooded moldy floor that was ruining all of my furniture and belongings all the way to the day I moved out and it was left that way. I have proof that I contacted them at least 3 times regarding this and put in a work order. All ignored. Another issue is the new management is SO UNRESPONSIVE. The sweet lady Sharon I knew before is gone, she got a job elsewhere. And when my lease was up I was told my rent was going from $1050 to $1460 for a 1bd 1ba month to month! I thought this was completely unreasonable especially since these apartments are not upgraded whatsoever. Black appliances, outdated countertops, carpet. Nothing modern or luxurious about it. So the price didn't make any sense. Also the washer/dryer is an extra $60 per month probably went up since I moved. You're much better off at the new apartments across the street. The Reserve at Gashes Creek. Starts at $1550 but way more worth it and luxury. But there is much better cheaper options then that as well. Feel free to message me for recommendations. This place is nothing like it was when I moved here. They are just money hungry and Emily in the front office is so superficial n fake. And they NEVER reply to emails or inquiries. They will not get ANYTHING done/fixed. They also took 1/2 of my deposit when I left that place spotless I even used touch up paint. I'm sure they took the deposit to fix the carpet that THEY caused. I could NOT WAIT to leave my 60 day notice. If you live here currently, make sure you have ur notice IN writing through email or they will act like you never said anything/gave them the notice. The only good thing about this place is the walk in closet, there's a secret hiking trail behind it and it has wonderful view of the mountains. Also very close to Ingles. Other than that. I give Barrington Village in Fairview, NC a zero. I lived their for 1 year in 2016. I had impeccable credit and I pay all my bills timely my entire life. Two years after I had moved, Barrington claimed that I had left damages to the unit and claimed I owed money. I called and I was told it would be taken care of. Instead this was sent the credit bureau from Barrington. I was not aware until 2022 that this false information was used against me to bring down my credit score. I can't even dispute. I left the unit cleaner and in better shape than I received it. I have no recourse to fight this lie against me. I paid the money. It affected my credit score so I could not buy a home. Be careful of this unprofessional, dishonest behavior for no reason by Barrington Village. I never write reviews but this one is warranted. Protect yourself from dishonest organizations. read more

I want to love these apartments so much & I certainly do when I don't hear high pitched barking from every angle. Don't let the scenic views & well kept grounds fool you. Sure, a couple of the ladies are nice from management & such, but are they living with you to assess the interior conditions of your apartment? No. The maintenance guys also get a star bc they're great too. Everyone gets a star except Emily. I hate calling someone out, but when you would rather turn a blind eye to an issue rather than seeing it for what it is, you deserve it. As a property manager, she'd rather argue with someone that possesses enough evidence for a small claims court case than to do the right thing and allow someone to simply move on since the problem is like a case of the herpes... Never goes away, it keeps coming back!!! Some people may be intimidated & don't want to say anything. That's why places with great potential continue getting away with this trash & leave decent, respectful tenants to "deal with it". I always hear others who are also affected by excessive noise say, "Oh, I don't want to cause any problems" so they suffer in silence or turn their TV's up full blast. That's the wrong answer. Clearly, there is a problem with dogs around here. If someone is constantly subjected to barking dogs around the clock with enough evidence to deem it as excessive, why disrespect them by saying you "walk through the breezeway about once every 2 weeks but hear nothing from the exterior." Are you kidding me? If you plan to retire or take time to regroup your life & are thinking this would be a simple, appealing place to call home for a bit, DON'T. I'd rather be living in a storage unit right now... it beats having to hear pitiful cries from dogs and people slamming the heck out of their doors. Yeah, we see your quiet hours of 2300-0800... but hey, you think the world stops at night? It doesn't. If you're a night shifter, good luck resting during the day. This is the worst place ever. My apartment smelled like cigarettes and it took them 4 months to do anything about it. Some of my clothes still smell like it. There's a homeless community up the road and they walk through the complex and break into cars. The people speed and run stop signs and my 4 year old almost got hit about 2 dozen times. The pool never gets cleaned and there's so much hair in it, it's disgusting. The apartments have the thinnest walls and are very outdated. At 5:30 am every morning I woke up to my upstairs neighbor having a horrendous bowel movement everyday. Building 2- apt 201, if you're reading this, please go see a doctor or perhaps a priest. After moving out, they sent me a bill for $30 for a damaged smoke detector, even though it was just taken down, bc you can't boil water if you have the detector up, it goes off every time. What a waste of a mountain community. read more

Solid 0 stars, but that's not an option. First of all, you're over paying by A LOT just to live in the a basic crap apartment. In my previous review, I mentioned how great the staff was. Staff changed and it IMMEDIATELY went down hill. The new property manager is awful. I've rented a couple apartments in my time and never have I had a property manager yell at me until he did. I ended up reporting that to his boss, that I was lucky enough to have the phone number to. New maintenance is tragic at best. Best to just fix it yourself. Next. When I moved in, the carpet never got changed in my apartment. We (myself and the previous property manager) made SURE to notate that in my profile. When I left, (as in broke my lease) new management thought it would be cute to try to charge me for the full life of the carpet, along with a whole slew of other things they cant legally charge for in the state of NC. Next. Lets move on to the crime! I was paying roughly 1500 a month. To get my packages stolen (if they were ever even delivered to the right place to begin with). Multiple car break ins, probably twenty or more in the two years I was there. Just last night, a neighbor at berrington alerted me that his motorcycle got stolen. A car even got stolen while I was there. The gate has worked for maybe 6 months of the two years I lived there, and it likely wont be fixed anytime soon. The compactor also breaks about every two months, and a serious amount of trash piles up. Like all the way into the street. To the point where they've had to order roll off dumpsters as to not obstruct traffic. (however, that came about a month after the compactor broke). There's dog poop ALL over the neighborhood, trash strewn about, and one of my old neighbors used to let her (very violent) dog outside, not on a leash, and with no supervision. Same dog that has attacked multiple other dogs previously, when she also let him out without a leash or supervision. There are no patios, very small bathrooms, and even rooms. There's almost no counter space. But yeah, if you're looking to over pay to get your stuff stolen, get yelled at by the property manager, get your car broken into, step in dog poo and then come home to cook dinner with no counter space, you're looking in the right place! read more

Over the past year, I have lived in Berrington Village. There is another review I posted about their former management if you scroll down, so this isn't the first time they have been negligent. My work requires me to be away from home a great deal, so I am rarely home. Last week, I received an email addressed only to me from Berrington Village informing me of the following: Hello, We have received several complaints from your neighbor about marijuana smoke seeping into their apartment. Please, be mindful and respectful of your neighbors. This is a violation of your lease agreement as well. If it persists further actions will be taken.   Thank you, Berrington Village Since this is obviously false, I immediately responded denying all accusations. Secondly, I have never heard of anything related to this. The property manager Nathan and I talked at the office on Monday, April 10. During the discussion I explained to him that I did not smoke(Hence my reasoning for being in a Non-Smoke building ) and that I was upset that despite living in a multi family environment, the smoke was automatically assumed to be mine. Nathan apologized to me and stated that the neighbors were sure it was me, but they had in fact received my email but had not planned to take any actions against me. As my mother listened to this conversation, she asked Nathan, "could we get this apology and conversation in an email?" Nathan responded, "no.". She continues by saying, "you were able to accuse her in writing, but you are refusing to apologize in writing."She proceeded to explain to Nathan that documentation was important for my protection in case Berrington tried to use this against me in future apartments based on the documentation they held against me.Nathan states that this will not happen and that this email is "informal" since no other documentation was filled out pertaining to a lease violation. At this point, Nathan has become very agitated since the tone of his voice has changed and my mother and he are constantly back and forth because of his refusal to send a follow up email. As Nathan scrolled his computer, he continuously interrupted my mother with "Thank you, have a good day." Due to the upcoming end of my lease, my mother suggested letting me out to avoid any further problems with Berrington Village. Nathan, however, refuses. He said I could leave, but I'd still have to pay rent for the next two months. Jonathan went on to say, "It's my job to ensure my residents feel safe and at ease". Then my mom answered, "Well how can that be if this resident is being lied on. And you refuse to fix it.How will you ensure this won't happen again?" Nathan responded, "how do you propose I fix it?". In response, my mother says" Go knock on doors, marijuana has a very discreet smell." Nathan replies, "I can't just go knock on people's doors, they might get upset. Additionally, I couldn't smell the marijuana if they hadn't smoked that day.". According to my lease section 28 under the section Access by landlord it states : Landlord reserves the right to enter the Apartment, with or without notice to Resident, at any time deemed necessary in Landlord's sole discretion to protect life or prevent damage to the Apartment. Due to the conversation being unproductive, my mother ended the discussion by stating a review would be made. Despite Nathan's quick accusation in writing, he hasn't acknowledged our conversation or apologized in writing. Before moving into this complex you need to understand that your neighbors simply have to lie, and you will be threatened with a lease violation, without proof. To begin with, I moved from Miami, FL to this apartment complex. It called my attention due to the location and also because they were giving me a good rate for a two bed, two bath and a sun room. Every question and doubt was answered.. Until I signed the contracted and my money was in their hands. I was surprised when I got here because not only did they not give me the right apartment which was offered, but then tried to move me to another apartment which smelled unpleasant and also wanted me to pay an extra $50 for the move.. seriously? I obviously said NO. It has been exactly 2 weeks from my move and yet NO RESPONSE TO WHAT WILL HAPPEN. Sharon was who helped me. Beth was the one who showed me the apartment and had No idea what cause the confusion and also promised to give me a call by Monday (2 days from my move) Till this day she nor anyone from the staff has contacted me back rather, I have called several times in order to see what was going to happen and yet NO CALL BACK NOR HAS THE HEAD MANAGER, AMY HAS GIVEN ME A CALL BACK WHEN THEY HAVE TOLD ME SEVERAL TIMES SHE WILL CALL ME. I AM SO TIRED OF HAVING TO BE IN BACK OF THEM. It has gotten to the point that I call and they leave me on hold. Either, they really can not own up to their word or they simple DO NOT CARE. I should have listen to the reviews when they said that the Staff is bad at getting back to you..... Location is great, However, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KEEP THEIR WORD. I've posted on Google review for this place and here now. The complaints are extremely valid. The amenities are not updated or well kept. If you have kids, the interior apt. paint is ceiling paint and a pain to clean (read CHEAP!). They patch work carpet, or at least in my unit (See google review for all pics I have posted!). The ice maker in the fridge broke so many times that it jammed the water line and busted. We stopped using it because what was the point after that. The cabinet doors were so worn and stripped that they would fall off their hinges. The master bath had little to no caulking and was growing black looking mold that moved to the above wall around the shower head. mold also grew in the toilets in a pink ring, but I was 'assured' that was common in that area. Mold should never be common. Our heating/ac unit inside the apartment caught on fire due to the exposed wires it was installed with. The above unit had a flood and it came into our apartment. The fix was to not fix it and paint over it (read again, mold issues). As for the grounds, the 'gated community' is a laugh. Its never locked and it resulted in many thefts including all the tires off a SUV (see google review for pics). The garbage area was always over flowing and attracting wildlife. I was in a non-smoking building but that didn't stop residents from smoking right next to the building, breeze ways or in their apartment (they smoked weed inside and you could smell it). The amount of domestic disputes from a disorderly resident and her boyfriend and his kids was insane. To the point that multiple neighbors around them called police, the office, and tried talking to them to quiet down. Nothing was every done. The company or management cheaped out and fired the original plowing company right before a bad blizzard and hired a one man show. Sadly, he was in a bad accident and couldn't plow or salt. Due to the cheapness of the company, we were all ice in on top of the hill (see pics for proof) for about 3 days (around Christmas of 2020) and this caused many car accidents on the hill. I've given up trying to get the rest of the rent I am owed (I was month to mont hand left mid month). What got me, was around Oct 2021, the new person who took over my unit (the assistant manager, used his authority to track down my husband's cell number to contact us because a package/mail was sent to him. This was to be put back in the mail and was never done. Over step on authority even if it was done with originally good intensions.) In my opinion, this was not worth the headache or the money that is being charged. The blatant bullying by the whomever is answering these reviews borders harassment and speaks volumes on what you will receive after you sign that dotted line. read more

Where do I start?? I have lived here for almost 9 months and still do. I thought about waiting to post my review until I moved out, as I have heard of the backlash that has been received by others, but I just can't keep quiet. I hope that this review will deter people from choosing this complex and spending a lot of money from a place that is NOT worth it. Here are just some of the things that I have witnessed and/or heard of directly by those affected: The security gate has not worked since I have lived here. The guard shack is only for storage, as far as we can tell. We have had packages stolen, my daughters car keyed, and strange people walking through our breezeway. Our neighbors have had cars broken into (one guy has had his broken into 3 times), motorcycles stolen, an SUV had all of their tires stolen off of it, and strange men banging on their door in the middle of the night. You can regularly see tweakers walking through the property. I placed Ring cameras in my windows and at my door just to feel safe. After I did this, I noticed that many of the units had cameras in their windows. I should also mention that there are domestic abuse issues that are not dealt with by management. When I brought it to their attention, they told me to call the apartment security people. Guess what? No one answered and I found out later that there is actually no security people employed here. Don't let the amenity of safety that they offer fool you. You do not get safety here, even though you pay extra for it. Most of the time that I have lived here, there has not been maintenance. I was told that they lost them all and were looking for more, but for the time being, there were none. My husband ended up fixing all the items that we needed when we moved in. He could not fix the whole in our kitchen floor, however, that is the size of a basketball. After being told so many times that they would get someone in here, we just finally have up and put a rug over it. I was told because there were no maintenance that our apartment did not receive the usual, appropriate turnover that they usually receive. My carpet was not cleaned, the racks in my closets were broken, blinds broken, sink in kitchen did not drain properly (neither did the tubs), and to top it off, there was an old, dirty dryer sitting in the middle of one of our bedrooms. It took weeks to get the dryer taken away and about as long to get the washer/dryer we requested prior to moving in. (Let's not forget the giant Whole in my kitchen floor.) I'm sure that they will find a way to charge us for all of these things when we leave, even though I did a thorough checklist upon moving in. I do have to say that now that there is maintenance, they are kind and try to get to your issues right away. We pay to also have a pool, which is never opened. They are saying they might open it next week, but who knows. We have not been able to use it since we have been here. That includes laying on the loungers or even using the grill and entertainment area that looked so appealing to us when we got our tour. When we asked about laying on the loungers one day, the manager got very snarky and just kept repeating that the pool area was closed. I'm not even going to write about customer service in this review, because the turnover was so bad that there was a different person in charge every time I went into the office. No one knew what was going on from one manager to the next one and it was a mess. I won't blame the apartment complex for the grounds, so much, cause some people just do not clean up after themselves and that includes picking up their dog feces. Also, there has barely been maintenance here to help Keep it clean. The HUB room where you get packages had something die in it, at one time. After about a week of smelling this awful smell, I went in to ask what was wrong in there. I was told, "Oh yeah, I smelled that the other day, I should let maintenance know." A week later it had still not been dealt with and was disgusting. The trash compactor is broken regularly and this trash just fills up outside on the ground and is not cleaned up. The recycle area is also not cleaned up regularly. These two things attribute greatly to the place looking like a dump quite often. I am currently paying about $1900 a month and was told to extend would take me up to $2000. I cannot for the life of me see why I would want to do that, and why they think that they offer anything that would make me comfortable paying this amount. I'm sure when I get off I will think of many more things, but I hope this helps someone to make the right and knowledgeable decision before signing a lease here. read more

Is ok but very basic.........a place not for children .......they advertise being GREEN nothing green about.... not energy efficient at all......very basic fixtures, paint and no trim, isolation next to none think what they mean as being GREEN is reused wood maybe in cheap cabinets that are falling apart etc. Not for children no where to walk or play.... roads in complex will not fit two compact cars and no sidewalks to walk. Went walking more than once and almost got hit by cars on road. Staff is very friendly and caring but after you move in it is shut down.....tell them about an issue and no response at all and if you get one the so called Manager named "K" blames all issues on her so called RESIDENTS , very bad......ground care is a joke property pays for it but not to clean up in breeze ways and patios leaving it to residents to clean up afterwards. I lived on top of the loudest, most vile couple who yelled profanities at all hours of the day and night. I talked with neighbors who reported that it had been going on for a long time. The management was very nice about it but never did anything to stop it. After six months I moved out and had to pay three months rent to leave. No one one would even discuss my predicament after multiple attempts to have a conversation about my reason for leaving. If you are looking for an apartment I would absolutely NOT choose Berrington Village Apartments. They should be ashamed of the way they treat their tenants. Worse experience dealing the management. Apartments over priced. Amenities are run down. Re read your contract or better yet just don't sign the contract. Check the dates. They can have different sign out dates than the original welcome home letter. And won't do a single thing for you. They have a way with finding ways to make more money off you. Very good apartment complex. The staff is friendly and professional. The staff does not communicate well with each other which results in hearing different information on problems from time to time. The pet fee is also a bit ridiculous. A pet deposit is understandable, but a flat fee is unreasonable. They do accommodate if there is problems with an apartment though. I had a complaint about a loud dog next door and they allowed us to switch apartments. read more
