I've been back several times now, to bring new life to old shoes, and I have to say that these…read morechaps are fantastic. En route to town, I dropped in my solid favourite heels to be fixed up, and was greeted by the ever friendly and welcoming guys that man the shop. I'm sure one of them must be Steve, and one day I might venture to ask which one, but on this occasion I wasn't so brave as to make introductions. It costs just over a fiver to get re-heeling done, and I've never been in without being able to collect the shoes about 30 minutes later. Basically, it gives you enough time to pop off for a coffee, take in the world, and pop back again before going about your day. Of course, if you need keys cut, and the various other cobbler odd jobs, they're ready to provide good service for that too. They're always smiling, they're cheap and cheerful, they're fantastic and I've them to thank for not having to buy new shoes. It's always a pleasure. Cash only, but as Hannah says, there's a cash machine right next door!

Steve's is probably the most traditional business in the whole of Headingley - amidst a sea of…read morestudent pubs, bars and modern delis, it stands proud, providing ye olde cobbling and keycutting services for anyone who so desires. The keycutting services are as fast as they are cheap (very) and on the two occasions I've needed a key cut here, I've had no problems with the finished product working in my doors. Can't say I've ever needed to have a shoe cobbled though. I'm a firm believer in the if-a-shoe's-broke-bin-it school of thought, so I can't comment on Steve's shoe skills, but I'd wager they're as professional as his key-cutting skills are.

It's a little creepy I think, that all of a sudden a lot of jewellers seem to be joining in the…read moreaddict-like desperation of those advertising to 'BUY YOUR GOLD FOR CASH!!" and Graham Jewellery is no exception. Plain to see, on the front of their shop, is that sign. Surely the treasury aren't that desperate to reclaim the gold reserves that they so hastily shifted a few years back? (Ha ha) In any case, Grandma's 9ct gold earring aren't going to fetch much for your efforts. Other than asking for gold, Graham Jewellers also sells watches, cufflinks, passion beads and a range of women's jewellery. Their window seemed to cater mostly for men, since there was a huge range of men's watches and cuff links and more, on sale when I walked by. At the time that I was looking there was a sale on most of the watches, a lot were at half price, which meant that there was certainly a few really good deals. As for the ladies' jewellery, I was a little less inspired. There was a lot of shiny sparkly diamonds, amber jewellery items and again a few good offers, but I guess no one item special enough that really made me want to go in and enquire. It's worth stopping by for a browse but that's all I wanted - just a browse.

Graham Jewellers sells jewellery and watches for men and women. It also sells a few ornaments and…read morepicture frames and a small range of clocks. The jewellery is mainly quite understated and traditional, with gold and silver chains, earrings and rings, but there is also a variety if amber jewellery which is slightly more eye-catching with a chunkier bohemian feel. The large range of watches are again quite unassuming and traditional in style, with larger-faces and chunkier straps for men and daintier styles for women. The best place to browse their jewellery is at the window, as there isn't much more inside, only a small range, which personally I find less attractive than the bits and bobs in the window. Inside are the clocks and ornaments...the clocks again have a classic, timeless (haha!) look to them, not particularly stylish but not hideous either and I wasn't too keen on the ornaments...a bit Argos catalogue for my taste, but each to their own. This shop seems to appeal to someone who isn't looking for something particularly striking or unusual and may just want a watch or a clock that works or a simple piece of jewellery to accessorise an outfit...and for such wants it does the job fine...but for those looking for something with a unique look you might be disappointed.
