It was originally a Kickstarter type project, hence the name. And most, if not all, if their beers are collabs with other brewers. The space is cool. Tons of seating in the back, and some in the front. The beers I had were good, but not amazing. I had the Eternity (cucumber and juniper sour), the Dark Sister (black IPA), and the #EXP 0027 (tropical session). They also do growlers, beers to go, and sell a ton of merch. We sat at the bar and all of the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The beers were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the "Boot Je Bier". Liked them so much I lugged a couple all the way back to the U.S. I would say this is the best brewery in Antwerp.

We got a beer that we have also seen for a very long time too. It was the Delirium Tremmens which is a Belgian Strong Golden Ale which was pretty good. It didn't quite have the micro brew feel going on and had the feel of a larger mass produced brewery but it wasn't bad. Flavor characteristics with this beer are strong, sweet and some fruitiness going on. It's also strong tasting and light bodied. I am glad to have tried one of the beers from this brewery at long last!

A better brewery visit is hard to find…read more From initial french like confusion about payment for beer, visit and other stuff the tour starts off with a typical belgian guy pouring young lambic in a very unconventional way into our glasses. In broken french and broken english our guide tells us the history of geuze and the brewery while we taste our samples. Beer buffs ask advanced beer questions, non-sour beer lovers look terrified tasting the beer. Very promising... The tour continues, walking through the miniscule set up for brewing the belgian treasure Geuze, and the tour continues, and continues... Well, after a very long, cold and interesting tour, focussing on really interesting andecdotes, funny technical aspect of barrel making, mold, bacteria, yeast and the price of italian made storage tanks, we end up in the tasting room again. The belgian guide pours us beer after beer and we rejoice, stuffed with knowledge and sour beer. Since most of the other visitors have left we end up with the guide telling us even more stories . He also tells us that he actually don't work at the place, he is a volunteer that has devoted his life to the history of belgian beer, lambic and geuze, and is responsible for the part of the brewery that is a museum. Respect! Best spent EUR 9 ever.

There were only two doors in view and the most unlikely trio to ever be seen in any religious structure. My brother, the organizer of Grovetoberfest Miami and the most religious of the crew...me. I dashed toward the door on the left and pointed my brother to the right and didn't wait to see what became of Tony A. Charging in headfirst a one-two combo immediately struck me; uppercut to the nose, jabs to both eyes. It smelled like someone filled a train car with athletes unfresh from a triathlon and shoes were optional. Once adjusted, I could read labels announcing the only six words I ever bothered to learn in the stuttering language of the French -- Allégé, à la Bière, Mont du Secours, Poteaupré, Vieux, Grand Cru and Classique Seriously if the RZA had been born in France instead of Staten Island, no one would have ever noticed he had a speech impediment. Anyway I was in the monk's fromagerie and shaking like a junkie. I could build a Lego monument with gold bricks at Fort Knox or make cocaine anthills in my underwear for a Cartel, but I CAN'T be trusted to give a cheese wheel a beery bubble bath without a little taste. Everything I could get my mouth on was mauled and I quickly started to feel the ill effects of a butterdose. Just then a booming, haughty voice proclaimed, "The number of exes, defines the strength of its contents. Those are Trippels, also known as STRONG pale ales in the Belgian style." Before we could ask Tony continued, "The abbot took me through the backdoor...on a tour. Did you know these monks reduce the ABV of their personal brew, reuse the bottles, and recycle the left over mash by feeding it to their dairy cows?" With that our ecclesiastical adventure had drawn to a close. The Chimay Compound (hotel, monastery, organic farm, specialty store) manages 1 of the 8 Trappist breweries in the world, but you don't have to be a know-it-all or speak worthless romance languages. If you see the magic word, Chimay, anywhere in the world, whether it's beer, cheese or toilet paper, put your faith in it and the results will be miraculous.

They have 6 beers on draft and all of the tasters we tried were very good. Wit, Blond, Amber were very well balanced and each had a nice aftertaste which should be experienced. I believe they use no hops in their beers (per the tour guide explaining to the group next to us on the patio) resulting in great flavorful beer w no bitterness. A few tips - - GPS to the location and be prepared for a quick turn into a courtyard type parking lot. Pay for parking at blue box on side walk. - outside cafe seating - doggy friendly in-out side. - the tour sounded very educational and worth the $ - their dried sausage was a nice side to the beer. The friendly English speaking staff add to the easy 5 star rating of this in town brewery. Nice job Gruut!!
