My boyfriend and I just moved to Savannah a few months ago, and we were looking for a new vet for our chocolate lab puppy. We are thrilled to say, we found the best one! The office is beautiful, the staff is so friendly, and we love Dr. Iulo. She makes time for us, even short notice. She takes her time, and is great with Ryder. She really listens to us, and Ryder not only arrives excited, because she gets all the belly rubs, she leaves happy too! Brought my cat in for antibiotics to treat an upper respiratory infection. I was a concerned by the negative reviews as we all know how frustrating it can be finding a veterinary clinic who won't try to up-sell you on everything and insist on unnecessary tests. I'm happy to report this wasn't the case, they even offered a military discount without me having to ask. I was able to make a same day appointment, in & out, in under 30 minutes, medications in hand. Staff was warm & friendly. Facilities exceptionally clean and inviting. Kudos Berwick! Where to begin! Staff (vet techs) didn't know crap. (i.e trying to get me to buy heart worm shot and pills... Really?) Vet: Dr. North didn't even formally come in to check out my brand new puppy. (looked at her when they took her to get shots... who knows what she did or didn't see) Took my fur child to other vet because of the same problems and had full blown bacterial and yeast infection in her ears! I recently came here from New York. My new puppy was having an issue. I called Berwick since they were the closest vet to me and had good reviews. I spoke with Lisa who was extremely kind and compassionate. Even though they are not currently taking new patients, they got me right in the same day. Dr. Douglas was also very kind and compassionate. She spoke to me at length about my puppy's issues and made sure I was well informed as to what was going on. The vet tech that took my puppy in was wonderful as well. I hope when the practice does except new patients that my fur family can become permanent patients. read more

This is the best care and service I have ever experienced at a Vet. Our poor Muggles had a very painful and complicated spinal problem. Although he had seen two different vets, he was only getting worse. By the time we arrived at Berwick (thanks to a friend's recommendation) he was in agony. The staff was very patient and attentive to his overwhelming needs. A month later, Muggles is on the road (long road) to recovery, however, it would not have been possible without the help of all three doctors... especially Dr. North. They truly worked as a team to help us treat Muggles pain and spinal issues. They never judged us for not having the income to pursue aggressive treatment but were very helpful in coming up with alternatives. They kept us well informed and answered every.single.question we ever had. They've made daily house calls when it was needed and I truly feel like they care about Muggles. (We even saw Dr. North outside of Berwick and she gave us a much needed 'physical therapy is important' lecture) The staff, too, are amazing. They are professional and courteous. All of the ladies keep the waiting room spotless and they, too, seem very concerned for our dog's welfare. I've convinced several of my family member's to switch vets over this amazing experience. I was driving from Virginia to south Florida when my pup started peeing blood at a rest stop (a known sign of a UTI in our pup). Berwick animal was the first that came up in a google search, and they had an immediate appt available. The dr was thorough, the staff was friendly and amazing, and only wanted to be accommodating. They got the pup on meds and told me what to watch for, and got me all prepped to finish the drive. I really wish I could transport them to where I live in Virginia!! Berwick Animal Hospital has been the vet clinic for my dog and cat for over a year. They've been consistently wonderful. Dr. Amy Mathiak is always so loving and patient and treats my pets like her own. When we're in the exam room she's always petting them and loving on them. It puts my pets, and me, at ease to see how well they're cared for and treated. Everyone on her team is just as delightful - from reception to the vet techs and everyone in between, it's always a wonderful experience. I went in this morning for my dogs check up, and within 5 minutes there were 3 wonderful ladies sitting on the ground loving on my dog Marley. I moved into the Savannah area almost three years ago, and Berwick was highly recommended by a coworker. They were amazing! I knew I found the perfect place for my pet's needs. Now 2 years later this place has taken a dive. They no longer seem concerned with the health of my elderly dog and instead appear to be more interested in the money to be made off her. So sad. I've had really great success with Dr Douglas. One of the main things I love is that you always see her, not a million other vets working out of the same office. I've been to her office four times and have always been super pleased with her employees, the amount of time she spends with me, the facilities and the price. I've seen her not only for a routine visit but also when I had a sick dog plus I've had my two dogs teeth cleaned along with boarding them and a cat neutered. She always gives written estimated and I've found that the bill typically comes in under the initial pricing and you don't have to worry about choking when you get a bill you weren't expecting. Her staff always remembers me and is super friendly. I continually recommend her to friends and am so glad I found her office. read more

Wonderful place to bring your pet. The staff is amazing and incredibly kind. They care about your pet as much as you do. I brought my cat in for surgery, a few days after the surgery the doctor and other staff members were calling me personally to check in and see how my cat was doing. All the doctors and staff took very good care of my elderly cat, Camille. She was declining in health and they suggested many treatments to help prolong her life. They were not pushy about it though. They understood it was my decision on whether to pursue all the options available. It is amazing all that is available now to prolong your animals life. I always felt they truly cared about her. It's great to find a good vet with Docs that really care! The girls at the front desk are very sweet and helpful. The office itself is very clean and welcoming. Everything is up to date and organized. The doc was very knowledgable, great with our dog and personal. We felt the care we received was very professional and she made sure to cover all bases. They even prepare you with a estaminet ( stating all procedures and meds) so you are not getting a bill you are unprepared for. Overpriced and the level of attention and care from staff does not make up for it. I absolutely do not mind spending money at the vet because I see it as just another way of loving my dogs, but this place is ridiculous. They quoted me almost twice as much as other places (several) on a dental cleaning. They claimed that certain tests/procedures were optional, but then talked down to me and pressured me when I said I wanted to pass. The last time I went, I had a small emergency, called before to make sure my dog could be seen, waited for well over an hour (with no updates, no one checking on my dog), and walked out. Stressed my poor pup out for no reason. Every time I went I waited at least 30 min, appointment or not. I canceled my dental cleaning appointment and will not be going back there. read more

I absolutely love Berwick Animal Hospital and their staff! I have been to a few other vets in the Savannah area and felt that I was greatly taken advantage of. The staff is so nice and does not pressure you to do or buy anything you do not want. I have been taking my two cats to Dr. Harper and he is so nice. His vet tech, Liz, is the best ever! Horrible place. My dog had a very minor skin infection and I couldn't bring him to his specialist in Jacksonville so I brought him to Berwick. Vet did everything she could to sell me all kinds of stuff to the tune of $200. I called my dog's specialist afterwards and they told me it was all unnecessary and the antibiotic they prescribed doesn't even work for his type of infection. I called and they said they would take everything back, but that was a fiasco! I called and called and was told I have to speak to the manager, I have to come by only between this time and that time, blah blah blah and after 4 visits and numerous calls I finally got a refund. They're definitely all about making sure you spend money there, whether you need to or not! read more

My first and so-far only experience here is when I brought in my beloved companion of 14 years, Boo, to be evaluated. The staff was wonderful and the doctor was knowledgeable (which, trust me, is not always a given). After being told the facts and choices (his third tumor, this one was on his spine and not easily removed like the previous two - and he was in the final stages of degenerative heart disease...just painful to see him suffer), I decided on euthanasia. I was a complete wreck, but everyone was really nice. I felt no pressure to rush to make a decision, even though they were technically closed and had basically stayed open a little later than usual because I was stuck in traffic. Top notch services. The rates are high, but you're paying for expert knowledge and education. If I could afford it, I'd make this my one and only vet and will NEVER forget how kind they were to me, a complete stranger. read more

My husband found a large turtle in the middle of the road. He had a large hook in his mouth and was dehydrated. He took him to Berwick Animal Hospital. They responded with compassion and took care of him. They said he would be taken to Oatland Island when he was better. I was impressed by their immediate response and compassion. read more

I agree with the previous reviews that this practice is about making money. I got talked in purchasing a "puppy plan" for my new dog. As my puppy had already received some vaccines before I got him, I was given a "credit" under this plan. After I got an estimate from this hospital of $230-300+ dollars to have him fixed, I took my business elsewhere to a vet with reasonable prices, and I was glad I did. My puppy was diagnosed at the second vet as having hip dysplasia (confirmed via x-ray) which was not diagnosed at Berwick, where I was told he was healthy. When I returned to Berwick to get a documented credit still on the books, I was told some story about how the "old" puppy plan (that I had purchased) and their "new" puppy plan was confusing and that it would take the office staff "several days to try and figure out this credit" which wasn't confusing to me as I have all the paperwork clearly documenting that I was due money. A short time later I received a phone call telling me that there was no credit and I had received all the services on the plan...not surprising considering how snide the office staff reacted to my request for a refund instead of a credit towards "future" services when I went in to request the refund. Do yourself and your much loved pet a favor and get services at a more ethic animal hospital. read more
