This review is written regarding the best feeds store on Wildwood this past fall. It is written now as not many people look for a nursery review late fall and winter but rather the spring. My daughter's wedding was on October 28th. We were hunting live mums for decorating. We called MULTIPLE local nurseries. No one was willing to help, commenting that we could purchase what was left at the end of the season. As I continued down my list, I called best feeds on Wildwood. I had great experiences there before. I was shocked when the gentleman that answered the phone said to stop in and that they could certainly do something for me!!! He introduced me to two female staff members who were experts in matching colors, mums that bloomed later in the season, and sizes that I would need for each space. They also taught us how to make the blooms open at just the right time. The day of pick up they were all organized on a rack and ready to go. Can't say enough about the plant knowledge that the staff possesses. I really won't shop anywhere else for my plant needs moving forward. I was in the area and was looking for some perennials. The place is nice and very large and had a good selection of perennials. The prices where about average to other nurseries. The one problem I had was there where virtually no customer sales help at all and after about 15 minutes I gave up and decided to leave. In the entire time I was there not one sales person came up to me and asked if they could help me find something???????? For me that is poor customer service even if they have nice plants and trees and a huge selection customer service should always be #1. read more

I love gardening and the only place where I go to get my supplies is Best Feeds. The price is always very reasonable no matter what you're looking to buy. We buy our plants, soil, hummus additive and mulch there. I also got peony rings for $6, which made all the difference. My peonies are very high and look great this year. In the fall, we buy our daffodil and tulip bulbs there. They line the path at my house and look great. We also bought some established plants as well. You know if you have any questions, you're in the right hands. Their experts are far superior to anyone you'd find at Lowe's, Home Depot and other garden centers. They take their time with you and take you around to show you what's needed. I love that personal attention. We also get our bird seed there. This place is my happy place. If you're into landscaping at all or gardening, and you live in Pittsburgh, you have to check out this place. They grow many of their plants locally so you can feel comfortable that the pricey tree you're buying has actually lived through several winters in our wonderful home sweet home. I have had much more success with their perennial plants surviving and thriving, than other big name national home stores. They have a great selection of trees, shrubs, and annuals. I love buying my tomato plants and other various vegetable plants in the early spring here as well. Perhaps the best part of this store is supporting a local business that has amazing, knowledgeable staff. I'm telling you, the head gardener guy is like the plant whisperer. You tell him where the plant is, what is wrong with it, and other details and he tells you what caused it. Got a weird bug in your garden or something on your plant leaves? Bring in the bug or cut of the plant and you'll have your answer. They are so right at times it is creepy. Long story short, if you're a gardener, or attempting to be, put Best Feeds on your must visit list! read more

I have visited this garden center twice and was not impressed either time. The staff seemed uninformed about several important gardening issues. When I asked both times about the 17 year cicadas that are coming to Allegheny County this year, I was told by two different sales people that people made a fuss about that but they did not thiink that it would be a problem with their young fruit trees. TheyStaff s would have been better off if they had admitted that it could be a problem this summer and then had offered to sell me netting in addition to the fruit trees. When I asked about Itoh peonies, I was pointed to the area where peonies were located and given no help finding which were Itoh and which were regular. When I called a sales person over for the second or third time, after I had found some of the right peonies, the sales person had no idea about the price and suggested that I carry the pot over to the register to get it scanned. I did eventually find out the prices and found that they were a lot higher than other places. On a positive note, if you were willing to deal with uninformed staff and high prices, their trees and flowers did look nice. read more

We moved here in 1974 and Best Feeds was well a community fixture even then. So this is a long established business with a lot of loyal customers. We know where to find stuff -- which likely explains why the garden center doesn't have a lot of people to walk newbies through. The help's knowledge here is superb -- I suspect they're better than Penn State's Extension Service and I know they're a lot easier to reach. And the tight staffing keeps costs down -- prices here give the big box guys a run for their money. The quality of their plants is better, and their selection of garden supplies may be broader. There's no place in the North Hills that's better at what they do. read more

Best feeds is great - the staff are real experts: they know their stuff and always friendly and helpful. They have plants no one else has (recently bought 3 Mountain laurel bushes there). My kids always have fun there too looking at their water features and goldfish ponds. read more

We packed up our son and drove down since neighbors recommended. We walked around and could not find anyone to help us with questions regarding the arborvitae trees. The first gentleman we found said he was too busy and couldn't help us. He about hit me with the trees he was hefting onto his cart and told me to follow the sidewalk back to the front of the building. We found a second gentleman as we walked back and he basically acted as though he didn't understand us and offered no additional help or went to find someone who could help. We had a few questions and were looking to purchase upwards of 20 trees. They clearly do not need our business. We will not be back and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Poor customer service in fish department - after waiting 15 minutes I left. Sales person knew I was waiting - need more sales people.

I love these guys! Not only are they polite they are good old fashion men that carry things to your car if needed. They are SO knowledgeable about what they sell and never try to up sell you! They are so friendly and helpful and they prices are very competitive! Great deals with their Best Feeds Card! My favorite place for all things outdoors!! read more
