This is a really excellent local greenhouse store that you should know and patronize if you live in the area. I feel so much better supporting a store like this than a big box store whenever possible. They have an enormous selection of pretty much anything you could need. I have bought many of the trees and bushes in my yard here. They have usually been successful, but on the rare occasion one hasn't, they have stood by their warranty and offered a replacement. I had two dogwood trees fare poorly before coming to the conclusion that my location or soil simply wasn't right for that tree and replacing it with a weeping cherry from here, which is absolutely thriving. I also have a Koi pond and get all of my fish supplies here, including very nice water lilies every spring after I do a deep clean of my pond. They have all of the flowers, vegetables and herbs, mulches, soils and gardening tools you might be looking for. I sometimes find prices here to be just a dollar or two more expensive than some other places, but I don't mind when I'm supporting such a nice local store. Always staff available to help, which you just don't get at other places. read more

Buyer beware! In addition to not honoring its guarantees, Chapon's also has poor customer service and rude employees. Last fall, my mother purchased over $750 of plants and trees from Chapon's Greenhouse and Supply, including a Flowering Dogwood tree. At the time of purchase, she was told the tree was guaranteed for three years. She was told to keep her receipt, the tag from the tree, and to register the tree with the grower. She did all three. The tree was planted on the date of purchase, using the instructions the fertilizer and starter soil that was recommended to her by Chapon's. The tree died. I contacted Chapon's. I was told to dig up the dead tree and return it to their store with the receipt and the tag. When she arrived at the greenhouse she was told to wait for a more experienced sales person. This man found a dogwood tree from the same grower and went to complete the transaction. When the salesman saw the receipt, he noticed that she had received a discount on the original purchase. He proceeded to tell her the price was guaranteed and not the tree. When she stated she would not pay the difference, the salesman called the owner. He then came back and stated Chapon's policy had changed and they would not exchange the tree. In contrast to what she was told when she made the purchase, she was told she needed to deal directly with the grower. When she asked for the tree back, she was told he would have to go get it. The salesperson walked away and proceed to start helping other customers. After waiting for 5-10 minutes, she went back to the sales person. He told her a young man was getting her tree. The young man brought the tree out. The employees at the store repeatedly and facetiously told my mother to "have a nice day" as she walked out the store. Their sarcasm was not appreciated. My mother feels she is being taking advantage of because she is an older woman. After originally being told she could exchange the tree, Chapon's reneged on their agreement. In addition to not honoring the agreement, the employees were sarcastic and rude. She paid top dollar for the tree because she believed it was guaranteed. She also expected a higher quality of service then what would be expected from a big box store. She received neither. After driving by this place for more years than I will ever admit to, I finally stopped in. I'm not sure why I never expected much of this place, but was extremely surprised by the quality of the plants, the variety of selection, and how much they packed into their location. I loved seeing a better selection of cacti than what I'd find in Boston, as well as a lot of Alpines and other rock garden type plants that have me wanting to by a little house in Pittsburgh just so I can stop here and do a little garden!! I bought a bee balm plant from Chapons and noticed the stems looked brown and asked a person working there if it was OK. They said I'd be fine. They all looked like that. Gave it to my mother for mother's day 4 hours away, and it's already dead. Found out it was a fungal disease. Went back with pictures and they told me they needed the plant back. I said it's 4 hours away and that I inquired about it before I bought it and was rest assured that it was fine. The blonde woman was incredibly rude and wouldn't even offer another plant. They are over priced anyway and nobody there seems to know anything about plants read more

Support your local small business & check this place out for your lawn & garden needs. I personally HATE going to Home Depot & Lowe's, because it's overwhelming. They are so big & I often feel as if I am not getting the best service when I go to large chains. I had a garden for the first time this summer and went to Chapon's for all of my plants. I purchased some beautiful flowers from them and tons of great herbs. They all lasted really long- my rosemary is still going strong! When some little bugs were eating my broccoli leaves, I came to Chapon's & they recommended a product to me & explained how to use it and when to use it. I was so grateful for their knowledge & advice. I highly recommend coming here first, over the chains! read more

I am usually a big fan of Chapon's and prefer to buy from local businesses rather than chains. Unfortunately, I walked in the store today and found that, while virtually all the customers in the store wore masks, none of the employees did. I appreciate what a pain in the neck wearing the masks are but, if Chapon's isn't concerned about my health, I won't be back until Covid is ancient history. read more

Baldwin is fortunate to have such a top-notch nursery/greenhouse. So before you support the big-box stores, take a drive to Chapon's and see all of the great stuff they have on offer: Houseplants, cacti/succulents, outdoor plants, trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, pond supplies, bird-food, yard decorations, bulk landscaping, knick-knacks, seasonal gifts, seed-starters, Xmas trees/decorations, grass seed, and plenty more. You will often find rare & interesting plant species that the big-box stores never carry. And ask questions, because these folks have been here for a good while & are really very nice and approachable. For me, it is the best plant destination in the South Hills. p.s. I agree with a previously posted complaint, we recently bought over $400 of plants and was treated rudely by one of their "more experienced" staff members. In fact he walked away from us because I guess he didn't like our questions. Would have walked out also but wanted to get our project started. We have gone there before because we support local businesses even though they are more expensive than the big box stores. Love this place! My partner introduced it to me. The place is well-organized, there are many employees floating around to help with questions and direct you to the correct location of what you're looking for, and the variety of items it outstanding. Don't quote me, but I believe all, or at least most, of their vegetable and herb plants are organic. They do sell a small selection of bird feeders, lawn ornaments and such, which is cool. The bagged soil, fertilizer, etc were a bit pricey. However, those items weren't the typicals that you see at the big box home stores. Definitely worth making the trip of you want reasonable prices, a great variety and knowledgeable staff. read more

Everything you need to start indoor/outdoor gardening, greenhousing, even small-scale urban farming needs like feed and large bags of fertilizer. I didn't have time to explore the entire store, but I was impressed by the diversity and seeming health of the plants they had. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and helped me find a present for a friend.
