I've always had good experiences at the Kennedy Center! I have been here many times over the years…read morefor various shows and the venue has never disappointed me. How can it with the spectacular view right by the water. The theater really is a magnificent piece of architecture. The grand ceilings are a sight to see. The last time I went was to see the The Book of Mormon. What a fantastic show! I thoroughly enjoyed myself and would recommend anyone who like the tv show South Park to see that show. Others I've seen there that I can recall are Lion King the musical and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The center definitely keeps a wide variety of shows coming around. Also for anyone metroing there, there is a red shuttle that can pick you up at from the closest metro stop straight to the theater. How convenient! I will say that I wish the prices for snacks and drinks were a bit less. Two drinks can easily be $20 depending on what you get. Hopefully they will reconsider their prices someday. But overall I always love coming here for a day out and a great show!

It really increases the richness of the experience if you are able to see the exhibitions at one of the after hours parties. There are tons of Smithsonian Art aficionados that make themselves available for questions throughout the exhibit on party nights. Of course, you can still see all of the Hirchhorn free of charge during normal business hours and I highly recommend that you do!! I really enjoyed this exhibition and hope to visit it at least one more time before it is finished on January 3rd. Anne Truitt was a DC area local and did a lot of these pieces at her last studio in Cleveland Park. She said that she couldn't find another place in the world (than the DC area) that had the correct sunlight for her art. Truitt was known as a minimalist colorist. Many of her pieces refer to emotional states and are also meant to be subjectively experienced with reference to the observers own inner mechanisms and life experiences. I really found these pieces to be soothing and uplifting. She is a master of color. It is so enjoyable to experience how delicately the colors blend around the various minimalistic totems throughout the exhibit. Her work really brought me peace.

The In Series is a small performing arts organization, specializing in "an inspiring and eclectic…read moreblend of opera, cabaret, theater, dance, chamber music, poetry, and Latino heritage productions." The productions are of the highest quality and they feature great local performers. The Latino heritage shows are educational and understandable, even to non-Spanish speakers. And if you've ever been curious about opera and wonder what all of the fuss is about, an In Series opera is an ideal option, as they make classical music accessible to the everyman. I can not recommend the In Series any stronger for innovative, interesting and intimate high quality, low cost entertainment in the DMV.

The…read moreplay tells the story of Carole's life, with the first half devoted to her marriage, her entering the music business as a composer, and the string of amazing hits that you had absolutely no idea Carole had written but that will bring back great memories for any of you who grew up in the 60s and 70s, including, in no particular order: Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (The Shirelles), One Fine Day (The Chiffons), You've Got a Friend (James Taylor), Up On the Roof (The Drifters), You Make Me Feel (Aretha!), Another Pleasant Valley Sunday (The Monkees), and The Loco-Motion (Little Eva) ... all of that (and more) before she started her own vocal career in earnest, culminating in the Tapestry album we all know and love. The play reminded me of Jersey Boys in how it told the story of Carole's life and the forces that shaped her music, but the story line is definitely secondary to the music, and it's worth going for the music alone. Abby Mueller knocks it out as Carole, and Liam Tobin (who plays her husband, Gerry) has a great voice as well, complementing Abby perfectly. The actors playing the musical team of Weil and Mann added a great extra dimension to the story, featuring some more classic period music, including On Broadway by the Drifters. Even though the Kennedy Center's a bit tough to get to (especially mid-week), make the effort to check out some great singing that will bring back some great memories - and you'll even get some dancing-at-your seat in during the encore number, with the entire audience on its feet! (No, I'm not telling which song - go find out for yourselves!)

So, it is "buy 15 and get 1 free lunch" deal. NEA cafe satisfies 3 major factors. 1. Your budget consciousness 2. Your taste buds. (most of the time) 3. Your health consciousness I usually go for the daily specials, but sometimes I get a craving for their yummy panini. The food here is fresh, made well, healthy and often tastes better than regular restaurants charging us twice as much. This is a good place to eat especially after series of guilty meals (expensive and/or high fat and/or too much portion, etc...) Oh, you can also give them your email address and receive the menu weekly via email which will become useful sometimes.

The theater, called Mead Theatre Lab gives the space, lights and sound to the performers for free- it is all funded by the DC theater community at large. The theater is on the small side. It seats maybe 70 people. The art gallery here will be hosting a really interesting exhibition called "Consume." One of my friends is an artist and he gave me a sneak peak of what he will be showing. This particular exhibit starts on Nov 30th. The paintings that will be on display explore how, why and what we eat, drink and buy

I know I shouldn't judge a gallery by a show opening, especially one as popular as DCist's…read more"Exposed" photography show, but there were a few things that disappointed me about my experience this past Friday night. To start with, I understand that friends of the staff get an automatic "in". Heck, I used to pretend I knew the bartenders or DJs because I hate waiting in line. However, when there is a line halfway down G Street, on a night when it's 20 degrees (not including windchill), and most everyone has been waiting patiently in line for well over 45 minutes to get to the front door - don't just wave your friends in through the door when they show up "to say 'hi'". It's rude and disrespectful to everyone that has been waiting all this time. If you must let your friends in, show them the service entrance around back, so you don't cause a riot in the lines. Seriously. Secondly, although it is probably 5 below out, when you have 100+ people packed into a gallery the size of my condo it gets very warm, very quickly. Turn down the heat and crank up the air. Yes, it's cold out...however it's very warm inside! Especially as there is nowhere to hang coats - and everyone is having a drink or two. Although we left after 15 minutes, I had already gotten a couple whiffs of BO. Not pretty. I could only imagine how much worse it got as the evening went on. Finally, have more then one bartender at the bar. Yes, the bar is tiny (the bar I have at home was bigger), but again, when it's a show as popular as DCist, one bartender isn't going to be enough. Especially as tightly packed as that room is, by not having enough bar staff, it just causes further bottlenecking at the front door. All in all - the Flashpoint seemed like a decent gallery. Small, but located between Metro Center and the Chinatown metro stop, it's easy to get to, and there are tons of dining options around. I will probably come back for shows in the future - but probably not for anything as popular as the DCist.
