The front desk staff name Mark or Jerald. He lied about his name. And whoever is the supervisor of the maid service. I step into my room on Sunday night from March 2nd 2025 to the 7th. I had a big clump of hair in both beds and also in the bathroom. Stains on blankets. Ask for towels and trash to be taken out forn3 days. I told them the tissue box was empty. The breakfast was running out of food everyday. So we just didn't go our last day. Mr Mark (Jerald) told me that I could leave if I didn't like it. So that didn't go well with me of course. This is a nightmare unprofessional staff. I highly do not recommend anyone staying here unless you're homeless. The location is nice but that's about all they have. I came in to footprints on the sheets and a weird smell. Definitely motel energy. It also has gnats that would land on me as I slept, disgusting. STAY AWAY Pros: Clean Cons: Got two hours of sleep because of the noise from the air conditioner and the refrigerator. Air conditioner had two speeds - arctic air and sub-tropic humid. One pro: Upon checking, the room in the tower (which was $5 more) was clean and spacious including a microwave and refrigerator Con's: Room was not available when I was told it would be. Customer service is bad. Could never reach front desk from room. NEVER. And when you personally went, they acted as if they couldn't care less. One person always never even looked up. Had requested by phone and on reservation for extra pillows and towels. They were not provided. Despite please make up room sign and leaving in the morning, the room was never cleaned. Unacceptable Breakfast was beyond disgusting and a sham. Case that says yogurts and pastries was totally empty. Biscuits were so hard and dry; I'd never tried one so bad. The 'eggs' made me want to throw up with yellow stuff swimming in a pool of white liquid. They had bagels and some sorry looking pieces of toast but no jelly, jam or anything else. There was a self serve waffle maker but no syrup? Like you can't send someone to a grocer to get these items. Shane in Best Western for letting this place say free breakfast. Advertised spa room was closed Not sure what checkout time is because their website says noon but the sign in the room said 11a. I assume this is a franchise but it was not worthy of the brand. When we got to our room, we discovered there was old spoiled and moldy food in the refrigerator. I called the front desk to advise, and got an "Oh, OK". I asked if someone could come and clean it out. This was Tuesday about 3:00 pm. We went out and returned after dark, and the food was still there, so called again to ask it be removed. This went on for 3 days, calling in the morning to ask someone to take the rotting food out of the refrigerator, going out for the day, finding the food still there upon our return, calling the desk again in the afternoon, etc. - 6 requests over 3 days. AND the room was not serviced at all on Wednesday, so when we returned there were no fresh towels, the trash hadn't been emptied, the coffee and creamer had not been restocked, the bed not made, etc. On Thursday, the rotting food was finally removed, and the room was PARTIALLY serviced - they brought towels. Nothing else. Needless to say, we will NOT be staying here again. read more

I am SO DISAPPOINTED in the Best Western Hotel in Athens, GA. I booked my hotel stay back in April told them I wanted to stay in the towers and that is what I thought I booked. We arrived in Athens after traveling for over 10 hours and we had the shuttle service to drop us off. I was checking in and the person on duty was very disrespectful he gave us rooms in the old section that was outside for one, people working on their cars, changing their oil, and heaven nows what else. The front desk person said that he talked to his manager and he has known and worked for his manager for years and he believes him and not us, that he told you were NOT in the towers because those rooms are $200 plus a day even though I was staying 9 days. I ask for a refund and I will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH BEST WESTERN AGAIN!!!! read more

Stayed here with my boyfriend for the weekend. The room was nice and clean when we checked in. the breakfast was also pretty good. We used the workout room and also used the pool, which was like a really big hot tub. But it was nice. The parking situation was easy for us to find space too. Good distance to walk to downtown and grab some drinks. On a nice day getting an Uber is not needed from this location. read more

Should have looked at the abysmal reviews prior to my booking. During these uncertain times high end hotels are being very lenient and generous with cancellation policies. However just u see 30 days out and this low budget establishment will not budge on a cancellation for my stay. Very disappointing and the attitude of the manager was condescending at best. Most popular, well respected hotels would have the confidence that they would immediately rebook the room given the lengthy time frame till the reservation but not The Best Western. They rudely insisted on not allowing the cancellation and offered nothing more than a credit. Based on all the reviews that I read I wouldn't allow anyone to stay at such an undesirable property. Booked this online as first place to stay once I arrived in Athens. I moved here and was traveling with my partner and our three super clean, behaved dogs. Was told at the front during check-in that I would only be charged $30 a night for the pets which is reasonable. We went to the room. Not the nicest place. There were three men power washing the parking lot right outside the window. It was loud! Soon after we unpacked our stuff the phone rings and it is front desk saying we have to pay $90 a night for pets or leave. Manager "Tripp" was outside power washing and called front desk. I go out to talk to him and he was so rude to me. I decided to get a refund and leave. No wonder hardly anyone stays there. The place smelled anyway and was very noisy. Tripp, the manager, even went the extra mile to make sure all of the children staying for the Chorus event (all 6th graders) had Chick Fil A biscuits for breakfast. Let me start by saying they have a new addition to the hotel, offer great prices but you are placed in the old motel portion which needs major renovations. The room door had gaps that allow pests through. The parking is tight. The gym which I discovered on my own had three pieces of equipment that didn't work! The bathroom mirror is so bad you can't even see your face clearly. I've had four TV remotes before one worked. The first time I called they promptly came and changed it out. Later that day it stopped working. I take that remote back, get another and it stops working. I call the next day and suggested that it might need programming. An older gentleman who I saw doing repairs in rooms comes down and programs the remote. They were refurbishing above my head in the rooms up stairs. What does it take to get in the newer portion of the property?? I am a business traveler and sleep and quiet is important but they seemed to not care where they placed me. The staff was curt when I called although the young lady Thursday tried to help me get the gym equipment working without success. She called the manager but that person did not answer. She asked, "will you be here tomorrow?" Finally, I could not get the ironing board off the wall and the iron was so high I had to get on my toes to reach it, I'm 5'7. Have had the opportunity to stay at the Best Western for most UGA Football weekends. Not 100% sure of the "older" portion of the Best Western (where the rooms are accessed from outside), but have stayed each time in the towers "updated" portion. Would recommend this hotel to anyone needing a place to stay in Athens. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and you're also a quick 5 minute ride to the heart of campus. read more

I was in town for a conference for 5 days so booked this place online and ended up in the sad, sad old side of the hotel. My ire isn't about being on the old side of the place. It is that it wasn't just old - it was dirty and broken...and featured lovely things like the bathroom light switch being sawed in half plus some heinous textured walls. Went to talk to the staff a couple times about the room and they offered to move me to another room for oh $350. Thanks. There was mold in the shower, open bottles of tiny shampoo, the toilet was dirty. Meh. Bonus points for the guy who sat outside my room, smoking, for four days as well. The new side looks lovely? I wouldn't know though even though it was essentially empty the entire time I was there. Breakfast was not good even for a Best Western breakfast. No one was helpful and this was by far one of the worst hotel stays I've ever had ANYWHERE. I don't think I'll ever stay at a Best Western again. read more

Where do I begin??? I stayed here last year and even though it seemed pretty sketchy we were treated very well, so we came back. I'm a teacher and a group parents, students, and myself were attending an Honor Band Clinic last weekend (Jan 22nd thru Jan 25th). When we arrived the young lady seemed friendly. The next day when I came back to my hotel room around 1:30pm the bed was made but there were no towels and the trash was still not emptied. I noticed I left my do not disturb sign still on the door, but why did they come in and make my bed and not take out the trash or leave towels? When we came back that evening there was a bag of towels on our door handle. The next day we left the hotel about 10:45am and when we arrived back around 4:30 our room wasn't even cleaned. Bed wasn't made, trash still not taken out, no new towels, and we were out of shampoo. My fiancé and chaperone went to complain to some male worker with brown hair and he basically called my fiancé a liar and had a big attitude. The employee's manner of speaking and body language could be heard and seen out the door. Additionally, when my fiancé asked to speak to the manager he was even colder. That Saturday and Sunday breakfast was very meager.....apparently they were sold out of rooms, and even though we showed up 1 hour after breakfast opened, there wasn't much of an option of breakfast food. The boiled eggs were awful and in room temperature water. Sunday morning when we checked out my fiancé went to complain in hopes that he could speak with a manager. Being in the sales business he and I value good customer service and the kid the night before didn't have any. The other gentlemen, Julian was just as rude as the other young man and was not helpful at all. The whole experience was terrible. I'm a pretty loyal Best Western Rewards member, I stay at many of their hotels, however this is one place I WILL NOT patronize again. I will also urge others who come to Athens for music conventions the last two weeks in January and February to have their students and themselves stay at another hotel. read more

This is my first and last time staying at a Best Western Hotel. The room smells like sewer water and is too small for three people. I paid for a two queen bed and I got two full size beds. I was ready to go purchase febreeze to spray the room , however the lobby was very clean and smelled good. The tub and toilet were dirty...see photos. Bath Towel were too small, and shit were not white aka Dingy looking. The only sink in the room was clogged and wouldn't drain. My husband is on dialysis we had to carry all the equipment up the stairs. I Asked the front desk for a room on the first floor and they couldn't accommodate me. The parking lot is too small and tight hard to park an SUV. I paid $87 per night on hotel.com and I won't be doing that again. I thought since we would hardly be in our room, I could just stay here but no thanks, I'll stick to my 4 to 5 star rooms going forward. Basically I got what I paid for. If I knew the rooms would be outside where I had to carry my luggage and medical equipments upstairs, I would of never ever stayed here. Next time I'll stay at Marriott or Hilton! read more

Poor customer service and understaffed. If you're in need of something (a plunger) the front desk staff is unable to meet your needs. Four hours our restroom was out of order (6th floor) and we had to use the main lobby restroom near the gym (1st floor) to accommodate their lack of staffing. Very disappointed. read more

Stayed here for one night and that was enough. I felt like I was on an episode of cops. Lots of sketchy single males hanging around smoking and staring. The cops came to escort a man out who was banned. Doors propped open and groups of sketchy individuals drinking. Glad I had my dogs with me. NEVERRRR book with Best Western in Athens, GA or any Best Western for that matter. We booked a room for the weekend of 03/14-03/15 with the intention of going to an event and the event was cancelled last night due to the Coronavirus. When I booked the room it stated I could cancel within 24 hours before arrival without any penalties. The news of the events being cancelled happened last night. This morning, which was before the 24 hour mark I called to cancel my reservation and they stated they would not cancel and continue to charge my card, regardless of this situation. When I logged into their website to review my room they have changed their whole website and even my booking to non-refundable. They are ridiculous, they apparently are struggling for money and do not care about their customers. I am spreading the word on every platform as well as my organization and my children's sports teams to never book with them! Don't do it or you will regret it. read more

Other reviewers are referring to the high rates, I saw the high rates online and called and booked directly with Tripp at the hotel and he gave me a great deal on a room for a 3 night stay. The complimentary breakfast is great, hot biscuits, eggs, and a pancake machine. LOOK ELSEWHERE! With several options available - I chose this overpriced motel (during football season) based on the reviews I read. After my experience, I'm convinced employees are writing the positive reviews during their downtime. I was shown two different rooms - each of them with an overpowering smell of ammonia/cleaning disinfectants/dog urine/the roque drunk college guy unable to find the bathroom. Either way, we were not waiting to see what was behind door #3 so we opted to leave and search for lodging elsewhere. WARNING: you will not receive a sympathetic ear/refund/apology if you are dissatisfied with your experience. Even though the room was rented on our departure - we were offered only a partial refund. The front desk was pleasant to deal with - but the new manager is clearly in over his head. He was combative and unwilling to assume responsibility for the state of his property. This was the first time I've ever left a "hotel" and not made the best of a bad situation -which should add some insight in to how terrible it was. New building or not - you can't clean up bad customer service. With so many options - look elsewhere. We were fortunate enough to stumble upon a cancellation at Country Inn & Suites. They informed us the customer whose reservation we were taking would receive a full refund. That is the honest and proper way to do business - not double dip to increase profits. read more
