Peter and Josie were the best! The small town roadside stay was perfect for what we needed. Would stay again. Pet friendly! Rooms were clean and smelled good. TP rolls had a cute folded design. There were plentiful towels also folded intricately. Breakfast available as early as 630 and open for a few hours. Parking is conveniently located right next to your room giving easy to unloading and loading. Check-in went smoothly and was easy. The nightshift work provided clear instructions for stay, parking, breakfast time and location. She recommended swinging by in the morning to explore and receive detailed recommendations of things to do in the area. Both manager and Josie were friendly, shared stories, and ensured our stay was peaceful and we had everything we needed. The team was prompt with keep the breakfast area stocked and anything in your rooms. The manager shared some of his favorite spots along our route such as Spearfish Canyon Scenic route, Custer State Park, and Wall Drug (full of unique local finds). Josie shared her favorite activities in the area, ways to learn about and appreciate the native culture, and recommended a stop at the 1880 town to see an early settlement frozen in time. read more

We stayed here one night while traveling to the west. Not much to do in the town. The stay was fine. It is a motel on the older side but seems the rooms have been updated. The bed was comfy and seemed quiet during night. The breakfast was good with a few hot choices and the standard cold things. The staff is friendly and helpful. read more

So having just stayed at a Best Western on this road trip, I have to say I was very disappointed in this location. I paid the same price at both locations and received so much less here. Basically, a one story motel with a parking right outside the rooms. They totally take advantage of the fact that their are few places to stay the night in the area. For $87 with tax, I got a tiny room with 1 queen bed, a small bathroom. It appears clean, but they allow pets and our allergies were out of control in this room. The heater drove us crazy. It alternates on and off every few minutes. The breakfast was ok. Some healthy options, yogurt, fruit, cereal and I saw almond milk. The not so healthy, biscuits, sausage, eggs, and not so good gravy. Friendly service and info was provided on tourist spots. Noise was not too bad. Overall, couldn't wait to get out of the room and no, I would never stay there again. read more

This was obviously a motel that was converted into a Best Western at some point, but overall was a pretty decent stay! We got in late after chasing some storms in the area and we had a nice little conversation with the woman at the front desk. The rooms are nothing fancy, and maybe even a bit dated, but were comfortable and clean. The real standout here was the breakfast - multiple different options and all fresh and tasty - pancakes and biscuits and gravy and eggs and sausage, all excellent (actually, some of the best hotel biscuits and gravy I've encountered)! The morning staff was super nice as well - overall would totally come back and stay with these guys if I was in the area again! read more

We walked into reception and were greeted by a very friendly woman named Nadine. There was a beautiful bouquet of Peonies in the counter. We are traveling with family and had been on the road 10 days. She is the first to put our two rooms close to each other. The room was very spacious and clean. I would stay here again. We stopped here on our way home from a trip out west. Great little hotel. Rooms are updated, staff is beyond polite and friendly. They had just a few rooms left, one of them was a family room-three queen beds plus a pull out couch, perfect for our family of five. The room was very large, had a tv, fridge, phone charging station. The hotel is very quiet and clean. They have a cute outdoor pool, we couldn't use it because of a thunderstorm rolling through. They have a complimentary breakfast which fed our crew well. They offered various cereals, yogurt, fruit, toast, breakfast pastries, eggs, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, sausage, and breakfast beverages. Highly recommend this hotel, especially the family room. In all of our years using hotels, we've never encountered one that offers a family room-more hotels should do this. read more

Murdo, SD, is a strange little town. I like to think of the night i spent there as a sort of off-the-grid adventure. For starters, there's no cell coverage at all. The woman at the front desk told me that some people, sometimes, on one network get some spotty coverage. Then there was all the trouble with the free internet access. When i asked the front desk attendant, she mentioned an ongoing problem they're having, but when i called tech support, it turned out to be something else, too. By morning it was resolved, but from our arrival around 4pm to when we woke up in the morning, we were totally offline. It was a strange experience. Then, to add a lesson in satisficing, the shower water temperature control was wildly fickle. It was the kind of thing where the temperature is almost right, so you turn it up a hair and it becomes scalding hot. You crank it down a few inches and it's still scalding, but you move it one micron farther and it goes freezing cold. This makes it sound like a mediocre hotel, but compared to most of the competition in Murdo, it's stellar. (Heck, i couldn't even tell if the place across the street was in business or not.) The rooms were clean, comfortable, and well-kept. The staff was very nice. ...but skip the yogurt for breakfast, they've mistaken Trix 'Yogurt' for actual yogurt. Ugh. read more

I was way behind schedule on my cross-country trip and it was starting to get late, it was getting dark, I was really tired, but I was nowhere near being close to getting to Sioux Falls. I was starting to panic because there weren't a lot of towns and I didn't want to stay at some questionable no-name motel out in the middle of nowhere....and then I came to Murdo. Best Western! I know that name! :) The staff was very friendly. The room was very clean and very comfortable. I had a little bit of difficulty connecting to the wifi and eventually just gave up. No cell coverage, either. But I figured I really needed rest anyway and was able to get online long enough to let friends know where I was, then I went to bed. read more

When we pulled up I thought this was going to be a major shit hole! It's an old, one story property where you park in front of your door. I was very pleasantly surprised. The room is huge and super clean. We reserved queen sized beds and we have queen sized beds, not doubles. The room has a table with two chairs and another chair that folds out to a bed. We also have a refrigerator and microwave. The furniture is pretty tacky, but everything is very clean and in great condition. The AC is working very well. The desk clerks were very friendly and helpful. I'm in the room now using the free internet. At first I had trouble getting a connection, but once I moved across the room it worked fine. The only place I can get a cell phone connection is next to the ice machine. The people next door have a different carrier and they are also having trouble using their phones. My only complaint are the rates. Our total with tax was around $107 and that's with a Costco discount. I was told they raise the rates near the time for the Sturgis Rally. read more

Quintessential 1950s motel that's been updated and well cared for. All updates are done well. Good plumbing fixtures, nice pure white shower wall, much better than average there. But expect also to see the original, flawless baby blue wainscoting tile in the bathroom, and miniscule bathroom size. Great value though. They advertised an outdoor heated pool, but it was barely warmer than what the July sun warms it to. I would come again. If the pool was 5 degrees warmer, they would get a5 star review relative to their price &value. read more

I was originally planning on stopping at the Best Western in Wall, SD, but when I saw there was a Best Western in Murdo, SD I figured I'd drive the extra hour that day, stay in Murdo, and then have a shorter drive to Mt. Rushmore the next day. Though, I love the Best Western in Wall I'm really glad I drove the extra hour to Murdo. This place was a vintage style Motel that was clean and more than acceptable. My only complaint was that many of the guests staying there dragged the chairs from their rooms and sat outside in front of their rooms. This was a little annoying due to noise, but other than that it was no big deal. The rooms were a good size and I liked how they had the layout with the bathroom curled behind the bedroom. The breakfast wasn't all that great. I can tell you it wasn't great because I grabbed donuts for my kids and they took one bite and then threw them away. My kids never pass up donuts no matter what kind. The wifi wasn't bad though, better than I had expected for the middle of nowhere. I would definitely stay here again and if you are a fan of vintage motels or just need a place to stay in Murdo then I recommend Best Western Graham's. Never mind that it's the only acceptable place in town to stay. I give Best Western Graham's 4 Doubledays. read more

I must say that we were a bit skeptical stopping at a motel but were pleasantly surprised at how clean and new this place was. The woman who checked us in was super nice and we specifically requested not to be put in a room where animals had been because of extreme allergies. We made a quick call while at Wall Drug. Fairly site unseen other than a pic on travelocity. So pleased when we arrived, front desk was very friendly! Our room was large and clean! The pool was crystal clear, with plenty of seating. Breakfast was just right, and kitchen staff offered to wash out my coffee cup I brought in. It pays to hire people who take pride in their job! It showed! We had a nice vacation, but our last hotel (this hotel) was by far the best. Will definitely recommend or stay again!!! read more

This place was a welcome respite after our previous night at an America's Best Value. It's older, one floor and you can park right outside your room, which we love. Good wifi, decent sized rooms, but the BEST thing. It was clean. Immaculate. I'm super picky about hotel rooms, I look closely at the bathroom, the linens, everything. Not so much as a stray hair. For what they are, in the middle of S.D., they are a great value. And they take big dogs (for a fee, which I don't believe was on their website). read more

After being in the midst of a cross-country move with 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 kids under 6, and a gecko, this hotel was absolutely perfect. The motel style layout easily allowed us to unload all of our equipment, and inside we were pleased to find a SUPER clean room and steaming hot showers. Air conditioning worked well all night long, Internet was fast enough. Service was efficient and polite, despite us arriving so late in the night. There is an excellent picnic area with a basketball hoop for kids as well as a separate grass area just for pets. Thanks for the wonderful stay! read more

We had been traveling for almost a week and stayed in many hotels. This by far was my favorite. We have 3 kids ages 6-10 and the room was so nice and big and the breakfast was nice and staff were very pleasant. Affordable and the pool and playground looked nice and clean although we didn't have time to use it. read more

We needed a place close to a job site and found Murdo to be the closest. The set up is like that of a Ma & Pa motel, but it is a BW! Our room was cute and cozy! The beds were comfy, but the pillows could be a bit better. Plenty of room to move around, except in the bathroom. No biggie really, because everything else was good. WiFi was great! T.V. selection was good and they offered HBO. They offered breakfast, but we never went (we actually forgot!). There are slim pickin's for food in the area, no fault of the hotels, but a need-to-know non-the-less. Carpet looks new, fixtures are new and there was a fridge and microwave. They cater to hunters, as a brown towel was placed on the floor for us (the young man thought we were hunters, LOL) for our muddy boots and hunting equipment. They have a cleaning area and outside fridge for hunters and a nice center courtyard with a pool. If passing through again, we would stay here for sure! read more

Very nice motel. Very clean and huge rooms. We loved the town of Murdo. It is in the middle of nowhere but very quaint and friendly. We had a problem in our room and the front desk clerk was there in just a few short minutes after I called to fix it. Definitely not the Hyatt but one of the nicest rooms we had on our cross country trip. read more
