Due to that we chose the 6 person Yurt, not because we needed the space, but because it was listed at the same price as the 4 person, so why not have more room for our toddler to run around! With the yurt being priced at $9/night more than the camper cabin with much fewer amenities I felt like it was an incredible value. The campground staff were also very friendly and informative. Here are my minor gripes that bring this down to a 4 star. Near our part of the campground there were only 2 Bathrooms, they were quite nice, and were completely separate 3/4 baths. But there were often lines, especially if one of them was being used for a shower. In addition to that the hinge style on the interior of the door was quite unfortunate. I'm tall enough where I hit my head on it multiple times. Secondly, when checking in the front desk workers hyped me up on ordering a pizza that they would deliver to my campsite. Unfortunately when I called in they said it would be over an hour and a half wait, that was a bit disappointing and I had to come up with other plans. Overall, a worthwhile stay. I've been quite impressed with KOA and look forward to continuing to explore their list of properties.

We checked in and were escorted by a staff member in a golf cart to our site. We rolled up and saw a whole family sitting on the picnic bench in our site. Turns out they were taking advantage of the shade in our spot to play cards... Anywho, our tent site was VERY dirty. There was M&Ms on the ground, a used straw, and dirt on the concrete slab and under our picnic bench. Dust was caked on the sink counter. The lockable storage area underneath the sink was also very dirty too - would not recommend using. Tip: pack a multiport block! Came in very handy to charge all the electronics and fridge. The gravel area where we pitched our tent was level. There are a TON of mosquitoes here. A pack of firewood is $9. Interestingly, you can charge your purchases around the campground to your room and settle the costs upon checkout. The dog run is good sized but seemed to have even more mosquitoes hanging there. The pool water was murky. Bathrooms can use more cleaning and updates. The showers and toilets are all in stalls, gender separated. The air vents were very dirty. We didn't get any free vouchers for breakfast pancakes that we saw other reviewers mentioning- maybe it's discontinued? Free ice and water inside the main KOA shop. The staff and service was good. We just wished our tent site wasn't already occupied upon checking in and was cleaner than how we found it. The KOA experience turned out to be a bit underwhelming.

When we were coming from Hot Springs in South Dakota, we somehow came upon a road that was not…read morepaved and had many potholes in. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere when we got to the Badlands. I cannot tell you how happy I was to see the sign of the bad lands, just because my husband and I were both confused as to where we were headed. Even in July, it felt like there was nobody coming or going. We were scared something was going to happen to our car and we were going to be in the middle of nowhere. With no cell reception nonetheless. The biggest tip I can tell you is to make sure you have a tank full of gas and snacks and things in your vehicle. The badlands themselves are beautiful. We were able to see some bison, even though it was not that close. It was an incredibly hot when we visited in July, so definitely go very early if you plan on hiking. We were not able to get our entire party out from having breakfast early, and we missed our day of hiking because of it. Even just driving around the badlands is beautiful... but be sure to have water if you plan on hiking. I did not expect it to be as hot as it was.

The scenery is absolutely stunning, with dramatic rock formations that were created from layers of ancient sediment deposited when this region was covered by water millions of years ago. The visitor center is excellent and well worth visiting before exploring the park. The exhibits are very informative, and we especially enjoyed the fossil preparation lab, where you can learn about the incredible fossils that continue to be discovered in the Badlands. Since much of the park is open for off-trail exploration, it's important to stop at the visitor center first to learn the rules regarding fossil collecting and what to do if you happen to find one. The views throughout the park are simply remarkable, and there are countless opportunities to stop, hike, and take in the unique landscape. Whether you're interested in geology, paleontology, wildlife, or just spectacular scenery, Badlands National Park is an unforgettable destination and one of the highlights of our trip.

But there is plenty of room between them, so you don't feel like you are on top of each other. The place was completely full. The staff did an excellent job keeping the bathroom clean and stocked. All in all this is a great place to camp! It is a great family place too. Swimming, boating, hiking, fishing. You name it. We will go again if we are back in the area. I would recommend reservations if you are there on a weekend.... Especially a holiday weekend! There are electric and non-electric sites only. No full hookups.

The campsites are spread out so you feel you have privacy for the most part. They have a nice shower room facility that is free. Our family had a blast fishing and enjoying the outdoors. The marina has a nice restaurant and alot of different fun bikes to rent. Definitely stay here, it's reasonable and beautiful! Campground 3 is the best in my opinion because the campsites are right next to the water and there are great shore fishing spots.

The showers had plenty of hot water, clean bathroom, it was 80 and the building was comfortably cool. The place looks kind of sketchy but the owner was very nice. There was city water, sewer and electric. Shade trees and a grass. Dog friendly with Ace as the park's dog greeter. I think he is a bird dog, he's very nice black guy and Happy!! No pool is OK tho this is not a destination place. There was so local road construction while we were there, May 2026. Across the street at the gas station with a nice little bar and restaurant. Close to the Badlands loop. We would definitely stay here again.

They only take cash ($30/night). I was worried we wouldn't make it and have no place to stay, so called again and was assured there was space and to not rush out of the severe weather we were avoiding under a bridge and hour away where several other RV's and semi's had overturned. So, my first impression was quite favorable. We did arrive at dusk and seemed a bit desolate at perhaps a bit shady as nobody answered in the "office" which was literally through a huge garage that seemed a bit down and out to come up to the side of a trailer with a door bell that nobody answered. I did get an immediate response to the phone number and was so happy to see someone to greet us and even help back in during the night (usually my boys help, but it was definitely a trying day and they were happy to stay put)... very helpful assistance and advised us of the full hookups (all working) and the restroom/showers which were very basic but found them to be clean. There was a pool but not in order and was advised on the initial phone call that there is no pool, it's not really a campground and basically rv parking.. With the motorcycles all around for Sturgis and the storm, none of that mattered.. we needed a place to stop and rest and this truly fit that bill.. there were a few others that arrived after us with similar travel issues and I believe we were all thankful for the overnight stop and availability. Would I book this place with intention to stop as a destination? Well, no, there's not much for amenities and really is an overnight stop unless you need to be monthly, though there is grass and shade which speaks better than some of the KOA's on our cross country trip. The restrooms and showers were clean, full hook ups, but cash only and does appear a bit run down at first glance. Seems to be many full time residents if that matters. It didn't to us and wouldn't matter if we needed an overnight again.. We had low expectations from reviews, was worried when nobody answered the doorbell for some time.. but if we needed a stop in Kadoka again I'd be comfortable for a night here again.

The bathrooms and showers are in very clean condition for a campsite. Showers are 50 cents for 4 minutes, with a machine to convert your bills to quarters outside it. You can't change the temp of the shower, so apparently our guys got hot showers, but the women's showers were great temperature. There's a nice sink for washing dishes. Found that it'll give very cold water which we used to help us cool off- this water is not for drinking but there are water fountains around. The staff is very friendly and helpful, you can reserve ahead or gamble and get a spot when you get there like we did. The visitor center and amphitheater for the star show is right next to this site. Trailheads for hikes like Castle and Notch are within a 15 minute drive. Beautiful scenery to wake up to, had wildflowers and the mountains/hills. Also heard coyotes both nights and saw deer, bunnies, and mountain bluebirds.

Just a little past the Bad Lands park entrance brings you to the Amphitheater. If you come at…read morenight, there is no cost to enter the park. There is a nightly presentation by park rangers and volunteers that covers Reptiles and a Night Sky viewing. It starts at 9pm and goes for about 45 minutes. Staff were very friendly and kids can get a Junior Ranger badge for attending. They also bring out telescopes for you to check out the stars. A nice family activity worth checking out if you are staying in/near the Bad Lands.

The Fort Pierre National Grassland is located in the center of South Dakota, north of I-90 and is a…read moremassive 116,000 acre national park. I think it's the largest park I have ever reviewed. The address for this "business" is for the Park Ranger district office in Fort Pierre, where you can pick up a map (a must) and get some general information about the parkland. Its shrubby hillsides are home to whitetail and mule deer, while the hundreds of earthen dams provide lush habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, and fish. Given the right amount of precipitation and sunlight, the spring and summer months of the central South Dakota prairie come alive with wildflowers of different shapes, colors, and sizes. As the spring progresses into summer, native grasses create just as stunning a display as the flowers. I had the opportunity to view the grassland from US-83 between Vivian and Pierre. It's 35 miles and it's just so amazingly peaceful. I pulled off the road a couple of times just to stop and listen to ... nothing. Just the sounds of the wind in the grass and the quiet ticking of a cooling engine. I'm not a camper or a boondocker - I need Internet for work - but I can definitely understand people who will take a tent and a backpack and a full bottle of bug spray and just hike into nowhere. A place to spend the night, but that's about it…read more Generally, KOA Campgrounds are all pretty homogeneous, they all look pretty similar. They have similar amenities and such. However, I feel like this location does not meet the standards of a KOA. To be fair to the owners though, the location suffered major flooding last year. Looking at pictures online, it was far better before the flood, but the owners seem to be doing all they can to make the place fully operational again. Because of Covid guidelines, the laundry room was closed, but this is no fault of the facility. Also, when the reservation was made, the employee warned us that that got lots of rain the night before and the place was soaked, so this would explain all of the standing water. The sites themselves were fine. They were fairly spacious pull throughs that were almost perfectly level. Standard 20/30/50 amps were available. The place has a slight bug problem, probably due to its low elevation in respect to the surroundings. However, we were told that the camp store closed at 8, but it actually closed at 7, so that's a shame. Where this KOA loses stars is the fact that a campsite was over $60 a night. This is unacceptable given the condition, but once again, I understand that the owners likely need revenue to rebuild. Overall, this is adequate for an overnight stay. However, I suggest going elsewhere if you value scenery and amenities.
