First trip to Rome and we wanted to try to find a hotel that was centrally located to be a tourist and we ended up booking this particular Best Western. It's located pretty close to the Vatican. From the airport you can catch a van for 50 Euros or you can e-mail the hotel ahead of time to get a car service. Our car service never showed up. Apparently with the time difference and how often everyone checks e-mail, they didn't realize we needed to be picked up. You enter through the doors and infront of you is a staircase that goes up to the rooms, to your right is a sloped ramp to their main sitting lobby. The receptionist is there to check you in. They were always very pleasant to deal with. Check in is in the afternoon so you have time to walk around before hand. They do have a laptop you can use in the lobby to browse the net. They also have free wifi. The codes only last a 2-3 days and then you have to go get a new one. They do have a printer too in the lobby but at the time of our visit, it wasn't working. They do have a collection of music you can borrow in the lobby and they usually put out some snacks and drinks in the afternoon in that area.
The very good thing for us American travelers.. free breakfast. Not just pastries.. but they actually had some eggs, bacon, sandwich meat, rolls, fruit, pastries, cereals, water, juice, and they have an espresso bar that they can make you something. That was very nice. Added bonus to this particular Best Western. The eating area is not so big but there are maybe enough to fit 8 groups. It is located behind the lobby and the elevator for the hotel is located right there as well.
The rooms are nice. We weren't able to get a balcony but we did open our window to see neighbors across the way. The room had a high ceiling. Very clean design with the wood floors, an open shelving unit to hang your clothes and put your suitcase. There is a safe in the room as well. A small desk in the corner with chair. Drums as our nightstands were cute. There is a mini frig with drinks inside. Charge you of course but enough room to put a bottle of water we bought from the store in there. TV with stereo system on the wall area infront of the bed. Thin blankets for the warm weather I assume. The bathroom surprised us for sure with the blue light and disco ball spinning. Very nice though. Definitely not use to the Rome toilets where it is 2 piece. The first day we flushed it... you could hear the pipes getting very loud after you flush. The next day it started to leak and the sound was getting louder. It was leaking for maybe 2 days. The sound was like that the whole week. The second night we went to bed having showered with cold water. There was no hot water than night or the next morning. They tried to fix it by looking and it but then just telling us not to touch it or move the handle. The bidet was not a pleasant smell at all. It made the bathroom smell like urine the whole time. Also, beware they do use square toilet paper pieces, not rolls!
The hotel was okay for the price. It is clean, the staff is friendly... they do speak english but not everyone. Free wifi is awesome. They do have a private car service they can call to get you to the airport for 50 euros which is almost the same price as a cab. Just tell them the day before you leave or arrive. Free breakfast is great. Bed was kinda hard. But with all the walking you'll do... you won't really notice for long. The only major issues were all with the bathroom: noisy pipes, leaking toilet, no hot water for 2 days, stinky bidet read more
