My wife and I originally had a nightmare of a stay at another hotel in Rome near the Trevi. It was so bad that we decided we would eat the cost of the last two nights we paid and just re-book another hotel for our last two nights during our amazing Italy trip. We stumbled upon Hotel Abruzzi and we couldn't be happier. It is a relatively small boutique hotel, but DON'T let this fool you. The service they provide is phenomenal. They go above and beyond to make you feel welcome, whether you're leaving for the day to conquer your Rome bucket list or heading out to dinner. A few more things to note: 1. We got the Junior Suite and the view and atmosphere was unbeatable. We were in the action, but when we got tired, we just went back to the comfort of our room and still had "front row tickets" to the Pantheon and the charming square where people liked to hang out. 2. They provide breakfast vouchers to a cafe right next to the hotel. 3. It's a boutique hotel so no areas to drink at a bar on the rooftop or eat, but this isn't a problem because the location is prime and there's a gajillion places around the hotel for food and drinks 4. If you have an early flight the day of checking out, they can still ensure you get your breakfast the night before (so you can take it to go) and also call a taxi / prenegotiate price on your behalf. Superb service. 5. House keeping doesn't cut corners like other hotels close by that I won't name. They do a very thorough job and tidy the place up well where my wife was even impressed with the organization of her items after they would come each day. 6. Bonus - our suite was stocked with a bunch of extra pillows and blankets. Grazie Mille entire staff at Albergo Abruzzi! You entirely changed our Rome experience for the better and we hope to be back one day.

Found this hotel on "Booking.com" and afternoon doing my homework decided to make the reservation. Immediately received an email from the front desk. Let me tell you from the moment I made the reservation to the moment we check out, the service was excellent. They took care of every detail, were waiting for us on arrival day, on of the ladies walked us to the room and gave us a little tour of the amenities plus explained is the process for breakfast (which is included on the rate). Loved that we opened our windows and our view was the Pantheon. I mean, what else can you ask for? Really nice hotel, walking distance to everything, and I mean everything! Loved my experience here and for sure will be back.

You can walk to almost anything, but if you don't want to--there's a cab stand right next to the Pantheon.

By Rome standards for a full-service hotel, it would be considered affordable by many. But just to be clear, it is not ultra-inexpensive. For the money, it is firmly in the 4-star hotel genre (getting a 5-star Yelp rating from me within this category because I could find nothing wrong with it during my stay). So, while it may not have crystal chandeliers and butlers running around, it is definitely not a student tourist level hostel. It has modern, comfortable public spaces, elevators that hold more than 2 people at a time, a restaurant with a good breakfast spread, and well-appointed guest rooms with modern amenities and AC. I really don't need more than that when I am traveling solo for business so it was perfect for me given that set of circumstances. As a comparison, I have stayed at a 5-star Rome hotel which was absolutely a step up in terms of service, luxury features, and a sense of a personal attention. But when I am alone on business, that level of service is not necessary and can feel uncomfortable to me. There are plenty of cafe's and restaurants within a 10 min walk and it is a reasonable walk to attractions such as the Opera House, the Coliseum, and the Trevi Fountain. It is also a 10-minute walk to the main terminal Rome train station and the cool, local Nuovo Mercato Esquilino if you are into that type of thing like I am. I spent early mornings walking somewhere for coffee and then through the Mercato to watch the vendors work to ready their produce and meat to be pawed over by early restauranteurs which was a cool look at the underbelly life of this great city. I really liked that this hotel is not right up against the busy street and, on at least 2 sides of the building, there are streets that are not constantly jammed with the noise of traffic. My room fronted one of the quiet sides. It is unclear to me if I was upgraded to a nicer than standard room location because of my Hilton loyalty status but I had a very quiet stay in a room that was impeccably clean and could be easily darked out during the day if I needed a restorative nap for my jet lag. The gym was reasonably appointed and open 24/7 and the wi-fi speed was top notch. I had a great stay here for the money. Based on all of this, when in Rome in the future as a solo business traveler, I would be very happy to stay here again.

That made the location extremely convenient. The hotel sits a short walk from Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Pope Francis is buried. Some areas near the main train station are often described as unsafe by Italian standards. We did not experience that near the hotel. Tourists and locals were out late, and the neighborhood stayed active into the evening. Rome is compact and easy to navigate. Most major attractions felt reachable within about 20 minutes by taxi, bus, or rail. We tried to visit the Trevi Fountain at 10:00 pm to avoid crowds. That plan failed completely(see pic). It was packed. Locals eat later than in the U.S., and many parts of the city stay busy well into the night. Restaurants remain open late. A note for U.S. travelers. European hotel rooms run smaller for the price. Even using Hilton points, our room would have cost close to $700 per night USD and felt small. The hotel offers a pleasant rooftop bar and a spacious lobby with multiple seating areas. The buffet breakfast was a solid, comfortable way to start the day. It was included for us as Hilton Diamond members. I am unsure of the cash price. Overall, the location and amenities make this a smart pre-cruise choice, especially for travelers relying on rail connections.

We didn't rent a car so I can't comment on parking, but everything you want to see, like the Colosseum, is just a short walk from the hotel or you can take a cab. The staff were wonderful with helpful suggestions from the front desk to the amazing breakfast buffet staff that always gave us a very warm "buongiorno" when we came in. After a few days the server didn't need to ask anymore he just brought me a cappuccino when I sat down. That is probably the biggest breakfast buffets I have ever seen. The two pictures don't fully capture it all. I really liked this hotel and would be back if I am ever in Rome again.

The downstairs spa was a bit small, but enjoyable nonetheless, with steam room, sauna, and simple hydrotherapy stations. All in all this was the best accommodations we had our entire 10 day trip throughout Italy. Will gladly stay here again! The staff, service, location, amenities and facility were all stellar!

However, it is quietly nestled in a beautiful little neighborhood. It is very quiet and quaint. Upon arrival we were greeted with the welcoming staff and escorted into the ruins beyond the lobby where we were brought a lovely tiramisu welcome treat to enjoy while taking in the ruins. The room is impressively large with a huge bathroom. We had a plush king sized bed with cozy down bedding. The thick beautiful curtains ensured that the room was perfectly dark for great sleep even if we wanted a mid day nap. There was a lovely little balcony with a view of the courtyard. With the curtains open the natural light is perfect. The bed was comfortable and we Sisto very nicely here. The bathroom is very big with a walk in shower and bidet with all toiletries needed to have a comfortable stay. I will say I was a bit bummed that the tile warmer was not functional but the hotel was very kind offering anything to make sure that we were happy. This was not a problem and we stayed in this room as warming towels us a perk but not a requirement. I would also note that the building is quite old and the bathroom had a metallic smell perhaps from the pipes of older plumbing but it was fine as long as we kept the bathroom door closed. I think the hotel was really concerned that we were upset but we absolutely were not just keep in mind this building is antique and if you are coming from the US where everything is new and not used to a potential aroma of antiquity be prepared to experience a true European city and do not complain. All details are thought of here including mini bar, clothes steamer, hair dryer, toiletries and a welcome gift. The staff is so friendly and welcoming. They are always ensuring that we were comfortable and happy. We absolutely loved our stay here. The hotel is a special place and experience. The nostalgia of standing and staying where the Romans once stood 2000 years ago was definitely a treat! The hotel has a rooftop terrace where we enjoyed breakfast in the mornings and wine in the evening. The lounge just inside of the terrace is cozy and comfortable to enjoy a glass of wine or cocktail in the evening and there's a cozy fireplace to warm up, which we took full advantage of after a long wet rainy day in the colosseum and Roman forum. We had a great stay here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special Roman experience. We will definitely be back!
